Transgender

Despite significant advances in recent years, Argentina's transgender community still faces structural social exclusion. For a vast majority of transvestites and transgender women, early expulsion from the family home and the educational system results in having to resort to prostitution as their only option for surviving. Police edicts and other similar devices are used to penalize prostitution and persecute transgender people in public places, showing that prejudice and violence against their identities also manifest in the control of urban space. Here I present the results of an in-depth qualitative linguistic analysis of a 2018 television news report about the temporary relocation of the transgender sex workers from their usual location in the Bosques de Palermo, the biggest public park in the City of Buenos Aires. The theoretical frame is Critical Discourse Analysis and the methodology is inductive and qualitative. The analysis centers on the linguistic resources that define the socio-discursive representation about the transgender sex workers in relation with urban space and the city's government. The bases of the analysis are the Synchronic-Diachronic Method for the Linguistic Analysis of Texts and the Method of Converging Linguistic Approaches. These methods revealed, in the first place, that the transvestites and transgender women are represented as mere occupants of public space through their close association with the discursive category of Space. In the second place, they are represented as fundamentally passive in relation to the Government of the City of Buenos Aires; while, at the same time, the government's responsibility for their displacement is systematically mitigated. Finally, the lack of work alternatives to prostitution for the transgender community is naturalized through the persistent association of the discursive categories connected with transgender people, prostitution and urban space. If we compare these results with those of previous research, we can see that these discursive features-none of which challenge the status quo-remain one of the basic components of the socio-discursive representation of transgender people elaborated by the mainstream media.

Rationale and background: Many surveys include gender in demographic data. This has historically been male / female in many fields. All surveys and human research are concerned with gendered humans. As such, this is a consideration for all social researchers. In order to accurately and meaningfully measure gender of participants, it must be acknowledged that growing numbers of people are identifying with a gender outside of man or woman. As well as reduced accuracy of data, neglecting to include these people in surveys may result in feelings of exclusion and discrimination. These two aspects make this a concern for ethical conduct of research. Additionally, woman / man is now preferred to female / male as the latter is considered biologist and not appropriate when talking about gender (as opposed to sex). Sex assigned at birth and gender identity are sometimes both specified. It is proposed that for studies that are not explicitly about sex/gender, for pragmatism and ease, only gender is asked. These guidelines include recommendations about respectful language for projects that are not specifically about sex/gender in content but have a demographic question about gender. They also include more detailed guidelines for projects that are specifically about gender, and another set of guidelines for those that are about sexuality or sexual identity. Projects that are not specifically about sex/gender The key here is to allow for accurate representation of genders outside of men and women, as well as using man / woman (gender) rather than male / female (sex). Cameron & Stinson (2019) recommend the 'three-option gender' question. Projects that are specifically about gender For projects that are interested in sex/gender as a topic, a two-step approach is recommended. In line with UNSW HREC guidelines developed in conjunction with key stakeholders and community groups, the following should be considered: 1. The present study focused on the issues of transgender community regarding their education. It is one of the emerging issues of our society and directly interacts with the complexities of gender identity and the lives of these people facing the gender disapproval form the society. The objective of the study was to find out the need of education in their life and their perception about getting their education and contribution of state towards the plight of the transgender community. The research was conducted by using interview method through a self-semi structured guideline. The snowball sampling technique was used as it was difficult to find out the study participants. The sample size for collection of the information was 5o participants. La presente ponencia describe algunos aspectos de la Teoría Fundamentada en relación a una investigación sobre migrantes travestis y trans que residen en el AMBA. Por un lado, nos focalizamos en el muestro teórico que involucra un conjunto de procedimientos que se relacionan a la selección de casos, es decir, consideramos pertinente describir la manera en que las unidades de análisis han sido elegidas de acuerdo a los criterios que fueron delimitados en el desarrollo de la investigación. Por el otro, caracterizamos los procedimientos de codificación aplicados, teniendo en cuenta que la reducción y análisis de la información obtenida resulta uno de los momentos de mayor complejidad en la investigación cualitativa. La Teoría Fundamentada propuesta por Strauss y Corbin (2002), establece que su finalidad consiste en construir teoría de manera inductiva y emergente. De esta manera, el muestreo teórico y la codificación de la información se vinculan en tanto procedimientos basados en la generación de teoría sustantiva y cuyo criterio primordial radica en alcanzar la saturación teórica. De este modo, este escrito describe estos procedimientos mostrando como fueron aplicados en una investigación que se propone caracterizar los proyectos migratorios de las travestis y trans sudamericanas. De esta manera, se presenta la muestra y los obstáculos para construirla, la codificación abierta, axial y selectiva y algunos lineamientos teóricos emergentes. Por último, se describen algunas funciones del atlas ti 8 analizando sus ventajas y limitaciones al articular el uso de este software con la Teoría Fundamentada.
