Apresenta-se neste texto a mostra documental sobre os 50 anos da Ulmeiro, livraria-distribuidora-editora surgida em 1969 para integrar a resistência frentista à ditadura salazarista. Esta exposição documental esteve patente na Fábrica Braço de Prata (LIsboa), em Maio-Julho passado, e irá ser reinaugurada em 2020 no Palácio Baldaya, em Benfica.
Em paralelo apresenta-se um primeiro ciclo de iniciativas culturais, que complementou aquela exposição.

Assírio Bacelar ha sido mentor de dos editoriales relevantes en la edición literaria y en el ensayo de los últimos 40 años. En 1972 cofundo la editorial de intervención político-cultural Assírio & Alvim, inspirada en la librería-editorial Ulmeiro. Y en 1976 fundó la Editorial Vega, junto a João Carlos Alvim y Vítor Paiva, donde retomó el programa centrado en la literatura y en el ensayo.

This dissertation shows how gay, trans and queer performers in Brazil, Portugal, and Angola, working in traditionally misogynistic, homo- and transphobic popular music genres, have successfully claimed and refigured those genres and repertoires through iterations of transgender voices and bodies. I show how Pabllo Vittar, Fado Bicha and Titica refigure normative gendered conventions of sex and song through trans formations of popular music genres. I locate them within a genealogy of queer Luso-Afro-Brazilian popular music practices and performances that deploy trans formations of voice, body, and repertoire. I trace a genealogy of transgender voice in Brazilian popular music to Ney Matogrosso’s 1975 debut release, through which I reveal a cacophony of queer, indigenous and Afro-Brazilian intersections; and in Portuguese popular music to António Variações 1982 debut, through whom I trace a fado genealogy of Afro-diasporic cultural practices, gender transgression and sexual deviance. Finally, I locate Titica’s music in practices of the black queer diaspora as a refiguring of Angolan postcolonial aesthetics. Together, these artists and their music offer a queer Luso-Afro-Brazilian diaspora in spectacular popular music formations that transit beside and beyond the Portuguese-speaking world, unbound by it, and refiguring hegemonic Luso-Afro-Brazilian discourses of gender, sexuality, race and nation.

Between march and june 1922, on the occasion of the Centenary of Brazilian Independence, two Portuguese pilots realised the first air crossing of the South Atlantic. Both in Portugal and in Brazil, this pioneer flight from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro resulted in the accentuation of the historical-colonial Luso-Brazilian bonds. At the same time, it offered a multiple object of projection to rethink the place of the respective nation in a transnational context. My presentation analyses images and texts which were published in the Brazilian press of the time. By doing so, it focuses on the Brazilian perspective of this venture, up to now little studied, and, thus, on Brazilian notions of the Luso-Atlantic world. On this key date for the national self-image, where did Brazil see its place in the Luso-Brazilian post-colonial context, and how did the readings of this aeronautical event help to reinforce that view? In which way did the categories ‘space’ and ‘time’ manifest in an era of aviation, when accelerated locomotion was still not a reality, and how did they shape the process of construction of identities and differences in Brazil? My contribution will demonstrate that, on several levels, the representations of the transatlantic flight and the accentuation of colonial continuities served to underline the increasing self-confidence of the young Brazilian nation.
