Terminological Collocations

Cet article se propose d’étudier la question du type de dictionnaire le mieux approprié dans le cadre de l’enseignement/apprentissage des collocations et de présenter un projet de dictionnaire d’apprentissage français-portugais. Ce dernier décrira en particulier les collocations de la langue juridiques, sur la base de l’analyse de la combinatoire verbale réalisée à partir d’un corpus comparable bilingue de textes juridiques appartenant au discours scientifique pédagogique. By popular definition, lexical minimum is a useful glottodidactic tool representing a selection of vocabulary to be taught at various language proficiency levels. Practically speaking, such minimums take the form of wordlists, extracted on frequency bases and drafted separately for each educational stage. However, the nature of language acquisition as well as the teaching/learning processes call for a much broader view of the lexical minimum, encompassing its primary, and possibly fundamental, meaning as a lexical competence of an individual and a conceptual measure for its expansion and evaluation. It is therefore claimed that the existing concept of lexical minimum as an exclusively didactic tool is outdated and needs redefining. Moreover, the methodology for a lexical minimum compilation should be revised, mainly on account of flawed compilation procedures applied by some authors. Accordingly, the aim of the present paper is to address some of the issues outlined by clarifying the notion of lexical minimum anew, discussing its multifarious characteristics and suggesting some methodological solutions to its construction.

This chapter will seek to address some questions about collocations in specialized discourse. These questions are: do specialized collocations exist? Are specialized collocations different from general collocations? How is a specialized collocations like? What relationsjhip exists between a specialized collocation and a terminological unit? What classes of specialized collocation can be identified? Should terminological resources include collocations? If so, what kind of collocation should be included in specialized dictionaries? And how could specialized collocations be represented and indexed in dictionaries?
The first aim of this chapter is to put forward an accurate definition of specialized collocation that helps us to answer the above-mentioned questions and to identify this kind of combinations and distingish them from other combinations also used in specialized discourse. Specialized corpora, specific to several domains, will be analyzed with NLP tools to identify the main types of specialized collocations.
The second aim is to discuss about various approaches to collocation representation in dictionaries and to suggest a new lexicographical model for collocation in specialized dictionaries and in other terminological resources. Several published specialized dictionaries and databases will be analyzed and described, and the advantages and disadvantages of collocation representation will also be discussed.

This edited collection presents the state of the art in research related to lexical combinations and their restrictions in Spanish from a variety of theoretical approaches, ranging from Explanatory Combinatorial Lexicology to Distributed Morphology and Generative Lexicon Theory. Section 1 offers a presentation of the main theoretical and descriptive approaches to collocation. Section 2 explores collocation from the point of view of its lexicographical representation, while Section 3 offers a pedagogical perspective. Section 4 surveys current research on collocation in Catalan, Galician and Basque.
