This dissertation studies selected works by artists Jane Jin Kaisen (DK/KR, 1980), Mark Leckey (GB, 1964), Henrik Olesen (DK, 1967) and Tabita Rezaire (FR/DK/GF, 1989) with a focus on how these practices - each in their way - interrogate, look into, articulate, reconstruct, and negotiate possible and potential actualizations of the individual and collective alike. The research is informed by theorizations of individuation through technical forms of memory as well as ideas of the contemporaneity of contemporary art. It has been conducted as part of the research project The Contemporary Condition, Aarhus University.

Seeking to readdress conceptions of technology, activity, use and understanding, In search of primordial technics I suggests a path towards an alternative reading of artistic activity. Dense and searching, combining philosophical explorations with open experiments, the search is only initiated here, giving some critical and theoretical background to these ideas in formation. It attempts to position the author as an ‘equal machine’ and creates a sort of spreading metaphor of equivalence, and its examinations and experiments conjure a vision of what this potential concept might mean. Haciendo hincapié en un estudio de la lengua wichí, el objetivo de este artículo es estudiar las motos, y aun más su adopción y adaptación verbal, en cuanto vectores para avanzar en la comprensión de la aculturación léxica de los wichís en un marco de relaciones interétnicas. El estudio de la lengua se constituye como una etapa previa e imprescindible para entender la complejidad actual del mundo wichí y la manera en que los indígenas se relacionan con lo mecánico. Este artículo se basa sobre un análisis de los términos que los jóvenes wichís del Chaco formoseño que participan de unos cursos para devenir mecánicos, traducen, integran y adaptan para apropiarse no solamente de un vocabulario técnico, sino también de las mismas motos. Los resultados previos de esta investigación que aquí se presentan atestiguan de las diversas estrategias lexicales que los jóvenes wichís desarrollan en la medida que elementos de distintas culturas y saberes se entremezclan. En este sentido, investigar las palabras de las motos se vuelva una herramienta útil y pertinente para avanzar tanto en el estudio de la lengua de los jóvenes wichís, como de su cultura. Abstract Stressing a study of the Wichí language, the objective of this article is to study the motorcycles, and even more their adoption and verbal adaptation, as vectors for advancing the understanding of lexical Wichí acculturation within a framework of inter-ethnic relations. The study of the language is constituted as a previous and essential stage to understand the current complexity of the Wichí world and the way in which they relate to the mechanical. This article is based on an analysis of the terms that the young Wichí of the Chaco region of Formosa, who are taking part in classes to become mechanics, translate, integrate and adapt in order to appropriate not only a technical vocabulary, but also the motorcycles themselves. The findings of this research testify to the diverse lexical strategies that the young Wichís develop as elements from different cultures and knowledge intermingle. Por eso, a pesar de su reciente aparición, sería legitimo hacer una arqueología de estas máquinas, cuyas piezas ya constituyen un elemento del paisaje chaqueño, tanto urbano como rural. Pero, al contrario de lo que se podría pensar, esos residuos mecánicos diseminados en el monte, al lado de cada vivienda, a las orillas de la ruta o en los pueblos no son basura, ni son los restos de una modernidad prometida, que en la región chaqueña siempre está por llegar, sin arrancar nunca. Questioning modernity’s humanism, rhetorical theory has increasingly sought to describe the rhetorical force of the material. Central to this movement has been Bruno Latour’s Actor- Network Theory (ANT). While Latour’s theory is useful, his general aversion to rhetoric prevents ANT from fully explaining processes of translation or the politics of networks. This essay mobilizes Bernard Stiegler’s theorization of individuation and technics as a necessary corrective to ANT. Their hybridization facilitates a theory of rhetoric as the architechnical organizer of networks. I develop this position by analyzing Facebook’s mobilization of the slogan “time well spent” after revelations about their problematic role in the 2016 US presidential elections. This case demonstrates how rhetoric translates memory to build networks, reshaping the subjectivity and politics of involved—and excluded—actants. Such an approach overcomes the rhetorical shortcomings of ANT and Stiegler while refiguring discussions regarding systems of individuation, rhetorical subjectivity, and power in networked relation.

El presente trabajo se plantea como un esfuerzo para concebir, pensar y analizar una
crítica de los elementos propios que el neoliberalismo impuesto durante el Régimen Militar en Chile ha dispuesto sobre la población de la nación, en cómo el concepto de pueblo se ha transformado y devenido en una singular imagen y ethos (tomando este concepto de Bolívar Echeverría) que habita bajo la óptica de diversos pensadores nacionales e internacionales divididos en los dos primeros capítulos. En el primer capítulo busco analizar y tensionar críticamente el concepto de pueblo propuesto por Martin Heidegger en función de disputarlo y trasladarlo hacia una problematización política en Chile. Por otro lado, el segundo capítulo busca profundizar dicha problematización de aquel concepto en conjunción al cine realizado por Raúl Ruiz y, en menor medida, Glauber Rocha, sus reflexiones sobre el concepto de imagen y su reproductibilidad técnica, tomando como importantes referencias y en diversas medidas al pensamiento de Walter Benjamin, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Gilles Deleuze y Bernard Stiegler respectivamente. 

Todos estos elementos serán contrastados y diferenciados tomando en consideración
el contexto neoliberal impuesto en la sociedad chilena desde el Régimen Militar hasta la actualidad, representando la crítica de la industria cultural propuesta por Theodor W. Adorno y su imaginario totalizante desplegado en la sociedad neoliberal desde el pensamiento de Michel Foucault. Elementos claves que serán analizados en un tercer capítulo de esta memoria, el cual se inclina en pensar y edificar una mirada crítica hacia la propuesta de una concepción clave de pueblo, de una potencia de existir que consigue escapar de su gravitante influencia, además de entregar breves reflexiones finales sobre el impresionante acontecer ocurrido en Chile durante el 18 de octubre y posteriores, tomando especial énfasis en el lema de “Chile despertó”.

“Culture & technics: The politics of Simondon’s Du Mode”

This article analyses the relevance of Gilbert Simondon’s proposals with respect to the challenges of contemporary technical transformations, and to weigh his influence and legacy in contemporary French thought. For Simondon, two major political challenges appear with the industrial revolution: firstly, the alienation of producers and consumers by technical machines and technical objects, and secondly, the increasing gap between the (rapid) evolution of technical realities and the (slow) evolution of cultural contents. These two challenges seem to take on new dimensions today, through generalised automation, algorithmic governmentality and digital disruption. Bernard Stiegler describes these features of contemporary society as a dis-adjustment between technical and social systems, leading to a process of generalised proletarianisation. He suggests that they may be overcome through experimenting with what he calls a contributory economy and contributory technologies. I will try to point out the theoretical gesture that makes it possible to shift from Simondon’s analysis of technical objects to Stiegler’s analysis of automatic societies. I will suggest that in spite of their theoretical divergence, Stiegler’s analysis can be seen as a way to continue Simondon’s political project, i.e. to ‘reconcile culture and technics’ in a completely transformed - and still transforming - technical epoch.

The present work is framed in two notions: 1) that in the habitat all scales are interdependent, and 2) that it is
necessary to integrate knowledge from various disciplinary origins, for a better understanding of the current
world and for the achievement of more responsible actions. This approach is particularly applied to the field of
conservation and restoration of natural and cultural heritage. Recent exercises are brought to explain the specific
case of Ambalema, Tolima, Colombia, with emphasis on specific actions carried out by the University of Ibagué
through its North Tolima Architecture Lab, Ambalema headquarters.
Since the declaration of the historic center of Ambalema, as a national monument in 1980, and mainly in the
course of the twenty first century, both from the academy and from civil society, efforts have been carried out to
maintain and enhance the cultural heritage values of this place of recognized historical importance in Colombia.
In this case, the historical review exceptionally transcends the usual assessment of the colonial, or postcolonial,
by going back in time to find the true material and technical roots in pre-Hispanic practices.
The consequent deterioration of the passage of time calls for interventions, which, if not careful and attentive to
the patrimonial importance of the context, may become a reason for the gradual deterioration of the historical
Ambalema related value. Simultaneously, it is crucial to combat disinterest on the part of the population, by
motivating and inviting them to participate in the practical exercises that are being carried out in that municipality.
This approach has been successfully applied in the actions mentioned. The physical works carried out on site by
the aforementioned architectural lab are detailed here, as well as the participation achieved by groups of local
inhabitants in the activities accomplished. The full coherence of this material work is taken advantage of, as a
point of convergence of the concepts indicated above, to obtain applicable lessons and new theoretical-practical
perspectives on: technique as function of memory.

If modernity was supposed to be the age in which world-images were abrogated or discredited as world-views, or as ideologies to be critiqued and deconstructed, our contemporary condition seems to be faced with an unexpected reappearance of images and of their importance for orienting our values. Instead of coming from mythology, theology or philosophy, these "world-pictures" are rather 'renderings' and 'accounts' of scientific models; by conceiving and studying their subject as a closed environment-as an oikos, a 'house'-disciplines like economy and ecology are able to project their own picture of the world. Yet, such pictures become normative (they acquire the power to legitimate policies) only when they are pushed to their own limit; in other words, these pictures become images whenever they stage the crisis of their own model. But is this phenomena limited to the contemporary condition and to its presumedly singular 'criticality', or is it rather pertaining to 'human' orders and to 'artificial' techniques at large? Looking at the interplay between images and crisis might open up a field of perspectives able, if not to escape, at least to rethink any apocalyptic prophecy, for how 'scientific' its base might be.

La notion d’obsolescence programmée est apparue dans le débat public français au début des années 2010. Mobilisée dans le cadre de critiques écologistes et anticonsuméristes (Fabre & Winkler 2010, Dannoritzer 2010, Latouche 2012), elle a suscité bien des critiques épistémiques. Dès 2011, s’exprime dans les médias un fort scepticisme quant à la pertinence de cette notion, et se multiplient les injonctions à définir, exemplifier, prouver l’obsolescence programmée – y compris après que celle-ci soit devenue, en 2015, un délit.
Dans ce contexte controversé, diagnostiquer des pannes, en déceler les causes non accidentelles et mettre en scène de spectaculaires réparations sont des gestes stratégiques pour les acteurs impliqués dans la dénonciation de l’obsolescence. De nombreux discours prennent ainsi pour objet des études de cas, convoquant ce que l’on pourrait appeler une « heuristique de la panne ». Étudiant ces discours et les topoi qu’ils mettent en circulation, on montrera en effet qu’ils recourent à une esthétique de l’enquête qui, parce qu’elle emprunte à des registres divers (recherche historique, expérimentation scientifique, récit policier…), produit des effets contrastés. S’ils permettent d’abord de critiquer l’interprétation accidentelle de la panne et invitent à une critique structurelle, systémique, ces discours aboutissent souvent, par la dramatisation et la focalisation sur l’« arnaque », à une représentation individuelle et marginale de l’obsolescence, qui en dépolitise partiellement les enjeux. Un certain nombre d’objets sont évacués du débat et de la réflexion sur la durabilité, et l’action se limite à la promotion d’une plus grande « transparence » par l’« information du consommateur ».
Au-delà de la documentation de cette controverse toujours d’actualité, l’enjeu de cette analyse de discours est donc d’interroger les effets de cette heuristique de la panne sur la mise en débat de l’obsolescence programmée
