Abstract Induced seismicity is usually associated with individual pre-existing faults whose nature is generally unknown. It is assumed that deformation bands may compartmentalize aquifers or hydrocarbon reservoirs because these low-permeability structures may behave as barriers to fluid flow. Geologically the study area is made up of three rock types namely, biotite banded gneiss, granodiorite and mica schist. This work is tasked with the production of an updated geologic map of the study area in other to delineate the boundaries between the lithologic units. In other to carry out this work properly samples obtained from the field were used to prepared thin section for petrographic analysis. Geologic structures were also studied. Structure of the rocks and the dominate minerals were used to deduced the name for each rock unit. Structural features observed and measured include joints, veins, and foliation among others. Most of these structures, especially the joints trend in the NEE-SWW direction while foliation trend in the NNE-SSW direction for schist and NNW-SSE direction for the banded biotite gneiss. Detailed geologic map was produced on a scale of 1:12,500.

The numerous landslides which have developed in the mostly Cretaceous to Eocene turbiditic rocks of the Silesian Beskid are genetically and geometrically controlled by bedrock structural features, the Biała Wiseł-ka Landslide Complex being no exception. Its location is in the headwater area of the Wisła River, on the slopes of Mt. Barania Góra (1220 m a.s.l.). The bedrock is represented by flysch strata of the Silesian Nappe (Outer Car-pathian Fold-and-Thrust Belt), or, more specifically, the Upper Cretaceous turbiditic Upper Godula and Lower Istebna Beds of the Godula Thrust Sheet. The research work consisted in their mapping and structural analysis, facilitated by the use of a high-resolution digital elevation model based on LiDAR data. A comparative analysis enabled the determination of the relationships between landslides and the bedrock structure. The study results point to significant roles being played by the joint network, fault systems, the structural arrangement and the li-thology of rock strata in the initiation and evolution of the studied landslide complex. An additional result of the methods applied methods was the identification and characterization of previously unknown fault zones in the study area.

RESUMEN La mina Calenturitas ubicada en el corredor carbonífero del departamento del Cesar, es dividida en varios sectores, particularmente en el sector "A" existe una falla geológica local, llamada Falla Carolina, sin seguimiento de control estructural y caracterización descrita, ocasionando problemas durante el minado de los mantos de carbón, generando inestabilidad en las paredes y rampas. Para la descripción y detalle del comportamiento de la falla se efectuaron levantamientos estructurales en campo y correlaciones de secciones transversales en el sector, determinándose que es una falla de tipo inversa con un rumbo N76°W y buzamiento 57° NE, la falla genera saltos verticales en los mantos de carbón desde 3.5 hasta 9 metros, los saltos no son constantes, varían a medida que la minería avanza hacia el sur de la mina. La Falla Carolina no posee un componente de rumbo así su desplazamiento horizontal es igual a 0 y por lo tanto su desplazamiento neto es igual al salto vertical. La interpretación de pozos exploratorios y correlación de secciones, determinaron que en los futuros nivel de minería la Falla Carolina no tendrá efecto sobre la secuencia estratigráfica. ABSTRACT The Calenturitas mine located in the Carboniferous corridor of the Department of Cesar, is divided into several sectors, particularly in sector "A" there is a local geological fault, called Carolina Fault, without monitoring of structural control and described characterization, causing problems during the mining of the coal seams, generating instability in the walls and ramps. for the description and detail of the behavior of the fault were made structural surveys in the field and correlations of cross sections in the sector, determining that it is a fault of reverse type with a bearing N76°W and dip 57° NE, the fault generates vertical jumps in the coal beds from 3.5 to 9 meters, the jumps are not constant, they vary as the mining advances towards the south of the mine. The Carolina Fault does not have a bearing component so its horizontal displacement is equal to 0 and therefore its net displacement is equal to the vertical jump. The interpretation of exploratory wells and correlation of sections, determined that in the future mining level the Carolina Fault will have no effect on the stratigraphic sequence.
