Profiling

After several decades of use of the Wealth Health Organization (WHO) 1973 grading system for bladder neoplasms (1973 WHO), a new grading system was adopted in 2004 by the WHO (2004 WHO). Some leading experts in the field of urogenital pathology have expressed their concerns with the 2004 WHO categorization system, both with regard to the nomenclature and the grading categories used. Several molecular and genetic studies have provided another perspective on the classification of urothelial neoplasms. The two most important developments are the identification of a mutation in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 gene in more than 50% of urothelial carcinomas and the discovery of cDNA profiles characteristic of different subsets of bladder cancer. There is strong correlation between the molecular findings and the 2004 WHO classification and prognosis.

Una delle più grandi zone d’ombra dei nostri info-tempi è il cosiddetto profiling, generalmente accolto con diffidenza: ci starebbero rubando i dati, o li staremmo cedendo inconsapevolmente a chi ne farà un uso strumentale alle nostre spalle. Poiché noi siamo i nostri dati, questo metterebbe a repentaglio la nostra identità.

Finché ci “profilano” le persone più care, va bene: un amico è tale anche perché conosce i nostri gusti persino meglio di noi e li sa usare per farci bei regali. Ma quando ci profilano (senza virgolette) anonimi algoritmi controllati da anonimi manager che rivendono dati ad anonimi pubblicitari, non va altrettanto bene: ci sentiamo spiati, come se uno psicologo segretamente scrutasse ogni nostro comportamento per studiarci. E approfittarsene: hai scordato di ricaricare la carta prepagata e il pagamento della bolletta della luce non è andato a buon fine; questo dato arriva alla tua banca, che aggiorna in negativo il tuo “diario da pagatore” e aumenta gli interessi dei tuoi futuri prestiti. Brutta storia. Per fortuna, però, stanno arrivando anche le prime contro-difese, come il GDPR della UE, che ha sancito l’innovativo principio per cui i dati sono inestricabilmente legati alla “fonte” che li emette: la persona.

Ma le cose non sono così lineari: davvero i nostri dati sono nostri e basta? Per capire una simile domanda, bisogna usare un po’ di filosofia e chiedersi che cosa sia l’informazione.

Social policy decisions based on algorithms affect the quality of life of people. Yet, the access to algorithms is restricted, which makes it difficult to assess their credibility. In result, it often remains unknown whether the statistical models were correctly applied or based on reliable data. The authors address this more general problem, by referring to the example of the tool for profiling the unemployed implemented in Poland. The profiling algorithm was to measure the potential of the unemployed in order to divide them into groups with different access to activation measures. Based on the analysis of the official documents, supplemented with qualitative and quantitative data, the authors performed a statistical meta-analysis of this tool. They prove that the profiling algorithm did not meet the basic methodological standards in terms of data quality and the selection and application of the statistical model.

The article sets out an exploration of facial aesthetics in online dating sites
and applications. By analyzing different figures of (digital) face exhibition and concealment drawn from the opposition between “natural” and “artificial”, the piece focuses on how dating sites architecture plastically remediate face-to-face encounters.
Brought into dialogue by the dating site project, through their face manipulation strategies, digital faces unravel the interactive (dia)logic of seduction and courtship practices. Without aspiring to provide an exhaustive account of the understanding of facial images in online dating sites, the article explores how digital faces in online dating sites work as unstable texts which display a collective exchange of glances. The study ultimately proposes to study how facial images are connected to each other and organized in the digital intimacy semiosphere.

In this work we have proposed a model for Citizen Profiling. It uses veillance (Surveillance and Sousveillance) for data acquisition. For representation of Citizen Profile Temporal Knowledge Graph has been used through which we can answer semantic queries. Previously, most of the work lacks representation of Citizen Profile and have used surveillance for data acquisition. Our contribution is towards enriching the data acquisition process by adding sousveillance mechanism and facilitating semantic queries through representation of Citizen Profiles using Temporal Knowledge Graphs. Our proposed solution is storage efficient as we have only stored data logs for Citizen Profiling instead of storing images, audio, and video for profiling purposes. Our proposed system can be extended to Smart City, Smart Traffic Management, Workplace profiling etc. Agent based mechanism can be used for data acquisition where each Citizen has its own agent. Another improvement can be to incorporate a decentralized version of database for maintaining Citizen profile.

Regardless of its function to order someone to do or not do something, commanding and requesting are different on socio pragmatics basis. Related to the dual-service of security and comfort at the airport, authority and politeness entailed in an imperative utterance can be expressed differently according to the context. Social backgrounds including gender, occupation, and job experience or training of 6 aviation workers portray various expressions and pitches of 5 imperative operators in 10 different situations divided by level of danger. Profiling on implicature over those backgrounds is described by locating stress point switches on the expression given.

We report on the room temperature photoluminescence (PL) at 1.54 mum from erbium-doped silicon rich silicon oxide (ErSRSO) films, fabricated on fused quartz by thermal evaporation followed by thermal-annealing in air. PL measurements show maximum intensity in samples annealed at 1000°C for four hours. X-ray diffraction (XRD) structural analyses show that annealing caused the formation of active Er3+ (Er2O3) centers.

Although cultural tourists increasingly seek to experience cultural events actively and to directly engage in creative activities, empirical knowledge about the creative tourist remains limited. This study aims to characterize the motivations and profile of creative tourists. The data was collected through a survey of participants in creative tourism activities in Portugal developed by 40 pilot institutions of the CREATOUR project during 2017 and 2018, with 814 usable questionnaires collected and validated. The questionnaire had 30 questions and marked the first time this kind of research was conducted in Portugal. The questionnaire included questions on: the composition of their travel companions, their previous participation in a creative tourism experience, reasons for visiting the destination, their characterization of the creative tourism experience, an evaluation of their creative tourism experience, and their socio-demographic profile. Using a cluster analysis to analyse the data, three clusters were found: Novelty-Seekers, Knowledge and Skills Learners, and Leisure Creative-Seekers.
