Napoleonic Europe

The imprecision of contemporary sources makes it difficult to establish an exhaustive list of objects transferred to Paris of the territories conquered by the revolutionary French armies. The first general inventory of these shipments dates back to the First Empire: it consists of an inventory of the art works kept in the Emperor's House. These records tell us how these riches were used on French soil before most were repatriated to their regions of origin after the fall of the Empire. Commonly known as the Napoleon Inventory, now kept at the National Archives of Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, they can serve as a framework for investigation and specify the list and relative importance of groups of the same geographical origin such as the group of "Belgian" paintings ‒ to refer a terminology used in this manuscript for their returns. After a necessary in-depth presentation of this source, it is therefore to note the relative importance of these works, before estimating their importance according to this manuscript.

Lorsque Germaine de Staël achève les Considérations sur la Révolution française, fin 1816, début 1817, les ultra royalistes représentent la principale opposition à la monarchie constitutionnelle. Désirant un retour à l’Ancien Régime et un regain d’influence de l’Église catholique, ceux-ci sont l’objet, dans les Considérations, d’une hostilité indéniable. Cet article examine les griefs de Staël vis-à-vis du système religieux ultra, ses idées quant à la place que devrait prendre la religion au sein de l'État, ainsi que l’outillage polémique qu’elle mobilise pour persuader le lecteur de la pertinence de ses vues.

The Illyrian Provinces, a part of the 1st French Empire which existed in the years 1809-1813, are often portrayed as a political entity which anticipated various projects of the political emancipation of the South Slavs. However, the link between later pan-South-Slavic movements and the Napoleonic political activity is a matter which still remains unclear and deserves some in-depth analysis. Most often the Napoleonic impact on the evolution of the nascent South-Slavic nationalisms is viewed in the perspective of the posterior political attitudes of the Croat, Slovene or Serbian elites towards the French, and their own interpretations of the Napoleonic impact on the pan-South-Slavic movement. The proposed paper will concentrate on the opposite approach and will investigate how French perceived the South Slavs in the perspective of the nascent nationalisms, especially that French propaganda presented Napoleon as the savior of the European nations including the "Illyrian" one. But how French defined this "Illyrian" nation? This question can be answered thanks to the French strive for description of the societies inhabiting Illyrian Provinces.

Napoleón fue, y será, uno de los grandes estrategas de todos los tiempos. Visto por toda Europa tanto como un libertador como un monarca absoluto. A través de este genio militar trascurrieron muchos de los conocimientos de grandes generales y estrategas políticos, ejemplo de ello son: Julio César, Alejandro Magno, los Medici y el propio
César Borgia.
A través de este proyecto, que aquí presentamos con el nombre de
“Napoleón Total War : Verdades y Mentiras”, se pretende mostrar cómo el videojuego “Napoleón Total War” (2010) ha incidido en toda una generación de jugadores, y del mismo modo, cómo ha puesto en conocimiento de los mismos información de carácter
histórico tanto verdadera como no acertada.
Mediante documentación original y documentos de carácter científico se analizará la visión del videojuego sobre la Europa republicana y napoleónica con el significado que ello conlleva.
En definitiva esta comunicación hablará de los ámbitos: histórico-militar, iconográfico, estratégico, uniformológico, vexilológico, político y social.
