An interesting phenomenon is happening in contemporary comics: authors, in various countries, are emerging that, as migrants among different comic cultures, take inspiration from mangas aesthetic and narration, handling it with their proper styles and mixing it with stories and subjects from their own cultures. The word gaijin manga –probably a flawed label– identifies comic artists that have in common an underground and avant-garde production, often connected with the DIY comics scene.
This paper explains the meaning of graphic narrative inspired by manga, and specifically what is understood by gaijin manga, performing a fast analysis on its authors’ characteristics, such as the Argentinian Berliac. Then the text will focus on Vincenzo Filosa, who brings together gekiga tradition, self-publishing and independent Italian comics, and gaijin manga.

The relationship between fashion, consumption, and place is contemporaneous to the complexities of modern society. As the world becomes increasingly global, so does the way we interact with others through various media. Both fashion magazines and manga are two examples of global media which have allowed their audiences the opportunity to engage with images as consumers and the freedom to produce new images as producers through global collaborations.

The purpose of this paper is to present the work of the Puerto Rican fashion illustrator Antonio López and the Japanese manga artist Hirohiko Araki as case studies in order to explain these global collaborations. Through the conscious effort to emulate novelty as a natural result of being exposed to fashion media, new hybrid products are being produced. Moreover, the text explores the manner through which these global collaborations took place through the analysis of
various American and Japanese publications. Through their careful interpretation this research will illustrate the how human beings engage with fashion images.

The proposed presentation focuses on Anglophone fandom dedicated to a Japanese transmedia franchise Weiß Kreuz. Over a span of ten years (1997-2007), manga series, anime series, OVA, a light novel and audio dramas were produced within the franchise, telling a story of four assassins working in a flower shop as a cover-up. Notable peculiarities of the series include a plentitude of internal inconsistencies and major continuity errors, including unaccounted gaps in the timeline and "plot holes so big you could drive a truck through". These flaws, however, do not seem to prevent the determined fans from appropriating the story and remaking it through fanfiction, often along the lines of BL (Boys' Love, or yaoi, featuring romantic/sexual relationship between male characters). On the contrary, the shortcomings of the canon in this case provide a sort of invitation for fan creativity. While dedicated fans enjoy engaging with the canon, they, nevertheless, are not blind to its flaws. They are willing to acknowledge and laugh at its inconsistencies and other failings, in both discussions and fanfiction, proving once again that fan appropriating and transforming of media productions is chiefly done for the fun of it.

Традиция иллюстрированных книг эхон, пришедшая в Японию из Китая, нашла благодатную почву во времена правления сёгунов клана Токугава. Техника печати на деревянных досках позволяла выпускать книги тысячными тиражами, которые затем распространялись среди городского населения. Иллюстрировали книги известные мастера японской гравюры (Торияма Сэкиэн, Кацусика Хокусай, Такэхара Сюнсэн), которые в своем творчестве обращались также к теме потустороннего мира. Созданные средневековыми художниками образы монстров ёкаев глубоко укоренились в японской визуальной культуре и в дальнейшем оказали большое влия-ние на современных авторов манги, таких как Мидзуки Сигэру, Кумакура Такатоси, Сато Сацуки и др. Ключевые слова: ёкай, манга, Мидзуки Сигэру, Торияма Сэкиэн, хякки ягё, эхон. С древнейших времен японцы поклоняются силам природы и верят, что мир населяют божества ками, которые сокрыты в живых и неживых объектах. Слово «ками» означает не столь-ко «бога» в европейском понимании этого слова, сколько «дух» или «душу» [9]. Так, уже в древности японский император счи-тался живым воплощением божества ками на земле. Поэтому при дворе служили астрологи и маги оммёдзи, которые помогали защитить императора и аристократические семьи от недоброго влияния других божеств. Учение оммёдзи основывалось на ки-тайском представлении о пути темного и светлого начал Инь и Ян (онъёдо или оммёдо), а также гороскопе 12-ти животных, пяти первоэлементах и геомантии-определении благопри-ятных мест и направлений для свершения различных действий.

El presente artículo señala el origen y el desarrollo del 'rorikon manga' como un género editorial propio de Japón que, a lo largo de la década de 1980, dio paso a otro tipo de productos editoriales que representaban de manera sexual a niñas y adolescentes de carne y hueso. Además, discute los procesos judiciales que ha enfrentado la industria de historietas japonesas para adultos, así como las decisiones (respecto a la censura) que se han tomado a partir de dichos veredictos. La propuesta central de este trabajo es que mientras se considere al 'rorikon manga' “pornografía infantil”, las estrategias de internacionalización emprendidas por el gobierno japonés terminarán fracasando.

En el año 1997 la editorial IVREA publicó por primera vez el manga Ranma ½, estableciendo el primer manga de edición argentina. Esto, acompañado al bum del anime en varios canales televisivos volvió al nuevo género un éxito editorial que fue replicado por otras editoriales.
No obstante, contrario al pensamiento más difundido, este manga no fue el primero en ser publicado de forma masiva en Argentina. La presente ponencia expondrá la publicación de la serie Ultraman en la revista Billiken desde el año 1968, y establecerá una comparativa entre ambas publicaciones para concluir si este antecedente histórico es efectivamente un manga o es más bien una historieta.

Este estudio abarca el proceso de consumo cultural del grupo de Facebook Los Mugiwara (One Piece) del manga y anime One Piece durante el 2019. Dicha investigación es cualitativa y de tipo explicativa, ya que busca determinar el proceso de consumo cultural del grupo de Facebook Los Mugiwara (One Piece) del manga y anime One Piece. La metodología utilizada engloba las técnicas de grupos focales, entrevistas, análisis del discurso y netnografía.
La investigación demuestra que los miembros toman el papel de receptores activos en todo el proceso de su consumo cultural. Esto porque ellos le dan una valoración simbólica a la serie y ello repercute en la búsqueda de espacios de socialización donde la interacción permite un aprendizaje informal individual y colectivo entre los integrantes. Es entonces que algunos miembros llegan a producir contenido referente a One Piece debido lo aprendido. Los mismos usuarios al crear y replicar contenido sobre la serie dentro del grupo expanden el proceso de consumo cultural. Si bien existen usuarios-consumidores pasivos, la participación de los miembros contribuye a la transformación de la comunidad en un espacio de aprendizaje informal autónomo y colaborativo.

Vagabond es un manga basado en la biografía del guerrero legendario Miyamoto Musashi. La historia gira en torno a su aprendizaje espiritual en el camino de la espada. Comienza con una vida de musha shugyō (práctica de viajar o peregrinar como entrenamiento), donde continuamente busca el significado de la verdadera fortaleza e invencibilidad. En el camino aprende sobre la vida, la humanidad y sobre sí mismo. Eventualmente, Miyamoto Musashi se convierte en uno de los guerreros más respetados y famosos de todo Japón.

This book provides the reader with a visual and narrative view into Japan at a particular time and place. Specifically, the period of the mid 1980s using a mixed mode of original artwork, writings, photographs, and research. The collection contains a total of 36 original drawings, watercolors, and manga (cartoons) of scenes and situations drawn in Japan decades ago. Also, over 15 original photographs taken in Japan in recent years help round out a personal perspective on Japan which is then brought to life through both sketches, images, and discourse. Many of the drawings and photographs are placed together to purposefully reflect on each other and help to weave a narrative about the settings of the cities, countryside, and seascapes of Japan. This book also explores the nature of drawing, Sumi-e painting, its relationship to Zen, and a variety of aspects of life in Japan and Japanese culture. These observations, reflections, and stories then support the drawings and illustrations within to provide a conceptual level of understanding to the visual experience offered in the book for the reader's consideration.
