New Zealand has a wealth of underwater cultural heritage, however, maritime archaeology remains significantly underdeveloped. This paper presents several recent projects and reviews New Zealand's current legislative framework pertaining to underwater cultural heritage to illustrate the opportunities and challenges which lie ahead.

Silk heritage belongs to the so-called integral heritage type, which means that tangible and intangible elements can be found in one piece. Moreover, silk is a living heritage strongly connected with its community. It is paradigmatic case, where its intangible elements go from literature, to mulberry farming, or traditional weaving techniques. Also, activities surrounding silk trade have left an imprint on various cities in monuments and even marking their town planning. Nowadays, silk is a living heritage in various communities and constitutes an element of creativity that can be appreciated in the current fashion trends. This paper addresses the main results of the SILKNOW project, funded by the European Union within the framework of Horizon 2020, and will give value to this heritage by proposing the elaboration of a national plan that will guarantee the safeguarding of techniques and knowledge linked to weaving techniques, through oral memory and conservation, documentation and cataloging. Within this project, we seek to understand these techniques through technology in order to make this knowledge accessible, while promoting silk knowledge among society.

La incorporación del discurso de la sustentabilidad en el campo del patrimonio cultural ha marcado la agenda de organismos internacionales en los últimos años. Sin embargo, la vinculación entre sustentabilidad y patrimonio ha ido pasando por diferentes etapas que dan cuenta de la evolución de ambos conceptos, permeados por las preocupaciones vinculadas con el ambiente y el desarrollo económico y social. A través del análisis de los documentos elaborados por UNESCO e ICOMOS, fue posible identificar seis etapas entre 1960 y la actualidad, que culminan con la incorporación de la cultura y el patrimonio en los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) 2030. La aplicación de nuevos modelos de gestión patrimonial sugeridos en los documentos analizados es difícil de contrastar en la práctica. Sin embargo, su implementación constituye un verdadero desafío para la agenda del patrimonio con vistas a alinearse con los ODS.

De acuerdo con la Resolución Suprema N° 2900-72-ED, el Teatro Municipal de Trujillo posee la condición de Monumento Histórico del Perú desde el 28 de diciembre de 1972. El presente artículo analiza al teatro como espacio físico y la vida cultural que se generó en este importante recinto cultural desde sus inicios a finales del siglo XIX hasta la actualidad. Se considera, en este sentido, su destrucción en el año de 1910 a raíz de un voraz incendio que colapsó completamente su estructura y su reinauguración en el marco de las celebraciones del Centenario de la Independencia del país.

In this theoretical paper, I argue that risk management strategies should give more attention to managing processes and practices of heritage. Cultural heritage is beneficial in society for the many valuable processes it is linked to. It is a set of particular cultural processes and practices through which people engage with society. It can bring people together, make them engage with each other and their values, stimulate learning, enhance well-being, generate meaning, create employment, etc. But cultural heritage also bears risks and can have negative impacts, for example when it divides communities, advances hate and prejudice, discourages innovation and prevents development. Risk management needs to address the risks that might compromise the benefits of what heritage does in society. For example, disruption caused by crises due to conflicts or disasters may stop or interrupt heritage processes and practices. An important task of managing heritage in the aftermath of crises is the challenge of recreating or indeed bringing about heritage processes and practices that promise to benefit the living and their descendants while preventing harm. I argue therefore that risk management strategies should invest more attention to managing processes and practices of heritage for the benefit of present and future generations. Managing heritage processes in times of crisis requires us to embrace change and transformation.

Cultural heritage is not only about artifacts, monuments, landscapes, and traditions from the past but also, and perhaps even more so, about people living in the present and in the future. Therefore, heritage management and conservation must always be informed by the question of what we want the heritage “to do” in society—and, indeed, to society—in order to benefit the needs of specified groups of people in present and future generations.1 No strategy is ever innocent; none is inherently preferable over any other....

El presente artículo se refiere a la situación del mantenimiento y la gestión del sitio de Patrimonio Mundial “Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas” en el marco del desplome del corredor cubierto N° 5. Después de describir el carácter patrimonial de la Ciudad Universitaria mediante los datos precisos de sus declaratorias nacional y mundial, describe los hechos y sus posibles causas para pasar a analizar las responsabilidades inherentes al caso. Se concluye con una reflexión sobre el impacto de lo sucedido en materia de mantenimiento y se sugieren algunas acciones inmediatas que pensamos se deberían llevar a cabo para salvaguardar este Patrimonio Mundial para las generaciones futuras.

This article concerns the status of the maintenance and management of the World Heritage site “University City of Caracas” within the framework of the collapse of covered corridor No. 5. After describing the patrimonial character of the University City through the precise data of its national and world declarations, it describes the facts and their possible causes to go on to analyze the responsibilities inherent in the case, and end with a reflection on its implications and maintenance in the future. It concludes with a reflection on the impact of what has happened in the area of maintenance and suggests some immediate actions that we think should be taken to safeguard this World Heritage Site for future generations.

This event focused on understanding issues and influence of heritage
(tangible/intangible, cultural/natural/mixed and movable/immovable) on
sustainable development of communities in Africa and Arab States
Regions. As a matter of fact, heritage is experienced both at personal and collective scales. In essence, individuals and communities in Africa and Arab States regions are connected to heritage, while also many of these heritage are shared across persons, groups and communities.

Among the first countries for World Heritage site numbers, Chian has just shown the concerning in heritage conservation recently in XX century. Since the Maoist period, the country went through many pressures by fast process of urbanization, rapid population growing and also moments of inexplicable destruction. It just started having attention after the reforms supported by Prime Minister Deng Xiaoping, then the participation of China at the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1985,, marked its entrance in an expert and foreigner community and implicitly declare the acceptance of international principles on conservation. The improvement of Chinese architecture heritage conservation policy is very encouraged but China still need to promote coordinated programs between cities, in order to better relocate its top-down financial support. The wall of Zhaoqing together with others Chinese cities walls are subjected for World Heritage promoted program. Choosing Zhaoqing as our case study means. we are learning, from a Western perspective, the Chinese heritage issues, in order to create a supporting. base for debate the differences with the Italian perspective.

Patrimônio é um termo amplo que pode significar os lugares (por exemplo, estruturas, espaços abertos) e as paisagens terrestres e marítimas (por exemplo, fazendas, cidades e vilas, centros urbanos históricos, áreas protegidas, territórios indígenas, rotas marítimas) que são valorados por uma ou mais comunidades. Normalmente, a água é um elemento chave ou secundário de tais lugares e paisagens patrimoniais. Uma Declaração de Significância (SoS, em inglês; DS nesta versão) pretende declarar de forma sucinta e clara a principal base de significância de um item do patrimônio, como um local. Geralmente, isso serve para subsidiar a gestão futura e como base contra a qual impactos potenciais futuros deverão ser avaliados. Esta DS emprega a abordagem, mas de maneira genérica e conceitual para todo o patrimônio cultural relacionado à água. O objetivo é fornecer um ponto focal para todos os responsáveis pelo gerenciamento do patrimônio relacionado à água, para assessoras os gestores a reconhecer onde esse é o caso e como suas atividades se relacionam com a amplitude total do significado do patrimônio cultural da água. Esta DS segue a abordagem estabelecida pela Carta de Burra do ICOMOS Austrália (2013), que recomenda que os lugares sejam analisados em quatro categorias principais: histórica, científica (incluindo nesta avaliações arqueológica e tecnológica), significado estético e social/espiritual. A declaração de significância fornece uma descrição de: • O que é significativo (em termos dos elementos que possuem significado); • Como é significativo (em termos de valores históricos, estéticos, técnicos, científicos ou sociais); e • Por que é significativo (em termos de como a entidade demonstra ou revela os valores que a tornam significativa na área local, na região, no Estado e além). Declaração de Significância da Água como Patrimônio Cultural O que é significativo? Os oceanos cobrem 71% da superfície e contêm 97% da água da Terra. Os recursos de água doce-incluindo rios, córregos, pântanos, lagoas e lagos contêm apenas 3% da quantidade total de água na terra.
