Histoire de la constitution des collections égyptiennes du Musée d’art et d’histoire de Genève, de 1818 à 1826 (Musée Académique). Un premier excursus retrace la biographie de Pierre Jean Fleuret (1771-1832), commerçant et grand voyageur, relation du consul Drovetti. Un second excursus reproduit le compte rendu du « développement de la momie » (inv. D 240, au nom de Tjesmoutpert), don de Pierre Fleuret, réalisé le 16 août 1824.

Die Verbreitung der Fotografie führte Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts zur Verdrängung der Kupferstiche und Zeichnungen als wesentlichen Bildmedien der klassischen Archäologie. Mit der Fotografie als neuer medialer Basis der Forschung gingen gleichzeitig neue epistemische Praktiken einher. Der Einfluss der Fotografie auf die Entwicklung der "stilistischen Analyse" in der klassischen Archäologie ist bereits untersucht worden. Innerhalb des Beitrags wird die Frage behandelt, welche Bedeutung die Stichwerke nach ihrer Obsoleszenz auf den wissenschaftlichen Diskurs und auf epistemische Praktiken des Fachs hatten. Hier lassen sich zwei signifikante Effekte unterscheiden: Epistemische Praktiken und wissenschaftliche Diskurse, die mit dem obsoleten Bildmedium entwickelt wurden, we-den unter neuen Voraussetzungen weitergeführt. Hierbei entwickeln die "Technik" und das "Objekt" des Bildmediums unterschiedliche Formen der Obsoleszenz. Als ein zweiter Effekt lässt sich konstatieren, dass die vermeintliche Obsoleszenz der Stichwerke dazu diente, die Relevanz neuer Forschungsansätze, wie den der "stilistischen Analyse", argumentativ zu stärken. Dies verdeutlicht erneut das reziproke Verhältnis von Bildmedien und Wissensaneignung in der Klassischen Archäologie.

Le Musée de La Cour d'Or, Metz Métropole conserve dans ses réserves le mobilier mis au jour en 1902-1903 lors de la fouille du grand amphithéâtre de Metz par les savants allemands. Première véritable fouille anticipée en milieu urbain en Lorraine, sa documentation , relativement abondante, est toujours conservée. Toutefois, les publications concernant l'édifice datent du début du XXe siècle et ne prennent en compte qu'une partie du mobilier découvert. Récemment, une campagne de récolement menée au Musée de La Cour d'Or a permis d'identifier l'intégralité des objets mis au jour. Ces collections pourraient être utilement mises en relation avec celles issues des fouilles récentes menées aux abords du monument.

Abstract The La Cour d'Or, Metz Métropole Museum holds the artifacts recovered in 1902-1903 during the excavation of the grand amphitheater of Metz by German scholars. This was the first true research excavation in the Lorraine urban sector and its relatively abundant documentation is still preserved. Nevertheless, the publications concerning this edifice date to the early 20 th century and do not include some of the artifacts discovered. A recent inventory conducted at the Musée de La Cour d'Or enabled the identification of all the recovered artifacts. These collections can be usefully linked to those originating from the recent excavations carried out in proximity to the monument.

Zusammenfassung In den Archiven des Musée de La Cour d'Or-Metz Métropole wird das Fundmaterial aufbewahrt, das deutsche Archäologen 1902-1903 bei der Ausgrabung des großen Amphitheaters von Metz-Divodurum entdeckt haben. Es handelt sich um die erste Präventivgrabung in städtischem Umfeld in Lothringen. Die relativ umfangreiche Grabungsdokumentation ist noch erhalten. Doch die Veröffentlichungen des Bauwerks stammen aus den ersten Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts und berücksichtigen nur einen Teil des Fundmaterials. Unlängst konnte bei einer Bestandsaufnahme im Musée de La Cour d'Or das gesamte Fundmaterial dieser Grabung identifiziert werden. Es wäre zweckdienlich, diese Sammlungen mit den Funden der kürzlich um das Bauwerk durchgeführten Ausgrabungen abzugleichen.

In 1857 four Czech Slavophiles Josef Šafařík, Václav Hanka, Karel Vladislav Zap and Ludvík Ritter of Ritters­ berg became proper members of the Vilnius Archaeological Commission. Intense contacts between Czech and Lithuanian environments then continued for approximately one decade. The Vilnius Archaeological Commission along with the Museum of Antiquities were practically the only cultural and educational institutions active in Lithuania after Vilnius University had been closed down. The main aristocratic representatives of the Commission, who were in favour of local patriotism without major national connotations, liked the idea of cultural union of Southern and Central European Slavs and the notion of a mutual cultural mission. The correspondence between its Czech members and Lithuanian representatives predominantly shows signs of Pan­Slavism. However, this pan­slavic movement was of a cultural nature and not of a political one, which was favored by the Russian government. Another reason for seeking contacts among the Czechs was pragmatic – the intention was to use their personal experiences for the development of cultural organizations in Lithuania. When it comes to practical cooperation between Vilnius and Prague, Rittersberg was the most active person, but further cooperation was interrupted by his premature death. On the Lithuanian side, an unflagging promoter of close cooperation with Bohemia was namely Adam Honory Kirkor. However, neither Eustachy Tyszkiewicz, founder of the Vilnius Archaeological Commission and the Museum of Antiquities nor his brother Konstanty did not lag behind in this field. Both the above mentioned were also active practicing archaeologists, in contrast to their Czech col­leagues from the Commission. From the viewpoint of archaeology, only archaeologist Václav Krolmus was in touch with the Commission for a short period, however, he did not become its member.

L'incontro degli architetti francesi vincitori del Prix de Rome con il Classico rappresenta un'esperienza sorprendente nella cultura del Settecento e dell'Ottocento europeo. Il loro lavoro, sottomesso ad una rigida ed esemplare metodica, ha contribuito alla formazione di una matura cultura antiquaria ed è ineludibile anche oggi per una comprensione profonda dei monumenti di Roma antica.

Dans la réserve de l’Institut Winckelmann de l’Université Humboldt de Berlin, des boîtes sont conservées, reliées et intitulées Kunstmythologie. Ces livres-objets renferment des feuilles de canson bleu sur lesquelles de très nombreuses gravures d’images antiques et mythologiques ont été découpées et collées. Rassemblées dans ce même lieu, ces planches devaient servir de matériel pédagogique et faisaient partie de l’importante documentation réunie par l’archéologue berlinois Eduard Gerhard, l’Archäologische Apparat, à l’époque triomphante de l’Altertumswissenschaft. Ce dernier a pensé le Lehrapparat comme une aide à l’enseignement : un ensemble de supports d’apprentissage permettant des exercices pratiques.
On peut ainsi s’interroger sur le fonctionnement de cette bibliothèque portative. Elle donne à voir des images, aux étudiants, à une époque où les diapositives n’existaient pas, comme elle est aussi le lieu de leur analyse et de leur rangement. Quelles images y sont conservées et selon quelles logiques ? Que peut-on percevoir de l’intérêt de Gerhard pour ces images ? Cet article vise à mettre en valeur l’intérêt heuristique et historique que représente cet objet mal connu à la fois pour l’histoire de l’archéologie, de l’enseignement et pour la mise en place des méthodes d’analyse des images antiques car, à la différence du livre, cette bibliothèque se présente comme un dispositif ouvert, à l’ajout ou au retranchement d’images, favorisant la comparaison.

Irren ist menschlich! Davon bleiben selbst angesehene Wissenschaftler nicht verschont, auch wenn sie ihre Forschungen mit höchster Sorgfalt betreiben. Gerade Archäologen und Historiker können aufgrund der lückenhaften Überlieferung bestenfalls eine Annäherung an geschichtliche Wahrheiten erzielen. +++ Entdeckte Heinrich Schliemann in Troja wirklich den Schatz des Königs Priamos? Fand sich in Xanten die kostbare Bügelkrone eines fränkischen Herrschers? Handelt es sich bei der Tiara des Saitaphernes um ein Meisterwerk antiker Goldschmiedekunst? Und grub ein einfacher Maurer im römischen Töpferzentrum von Rheinzabern tatsächlich dutzende Antiken aus? Während wir heute wissen, dass diese Fragen mit »Nein« zu beantworten sind, schienen viele Trugbilder zu ihrer Entstehungszeit durchaus überzeugend. +++ Der Vortrag stellte je zwei Fälle archäologischer Irrtümer und Fälschungen genauer vor, riss drei weitere Themen an und stellte einleitend ein archäologisches Szenario der Zukunft vor: Der Hobby-Archäologe Howard Carson entdeckt im 5. Jahrtausend nach (!) Christus eine vermeintliche Kult- und Grabstätte der untergegangenen Yankee-Kultur und deutet seine Funde allesamt falsch. +++ Grundlage des Vortrages bildete die Sonderausstellung »Irrtümer & Fälschungen der Archäologie« in Herne und Hildesheim sowie die humoristische Grafik-Novelle »Motel der Mysterien« des preisgekrönten Autors und Grafikers David Macaulay.
