L ’emplacement exact de l’hippodrome de Delphes est depuis peu fortement débattu. Il est vrai
que l’imprécision des sources littéraires, associée à des paysages qui ont fortement changé depuis
plus de 2000 ans n’ont toujours pas permis sa localisation. Dans cet article, une double approche
originale fondée sur l’étude approfondie de ces fragments littéraires et épigraphiques ainsi que sur
une étude géomorphologique de terrain nous a permis de mettre en évidence une zone susceptible
d’avoir accueilli les courses hippiques dans l’Antiquité. Située au bas du versant sud du sanctuaire
et légèrement au-dessus de la plaine, sa surface plane au sol est d’environ 11 hectares. L ’argument
topographique ne suffisant pas pour proposer une hypothèse sérieuse, différents critères indispensables
à l’établissement d’un hippodrome ont été ici discutés et confrontés aux dynamiques
environnementales locales : dimensions de la piste, présence ou non d’eau à proximité, accessibilité
et distance au sanctuaire et enfin possibilité d’aménager cet espace pour les spectateurs.

Analysis of various remote sensing data allows to divide the ancient roads of the Taman Peninsula into two types. One type is hollow ways and the second type is boundary ways. The article examines in more detail the first type. The hollow ways of the Taman Peninsula find a good analogy with hollow ways in Upper Mesopotamia which formed in the Early Bronze Age. The article concludes that a significant part of the hollow ways of the Taman Peninsula had been appeared after the desolation of extensive land division systems created during the golden age of the Bosporan grain trade.

The Kabeirion at Chloe (Lemnos), discovered in the ‘30s of the past century on a promontory North to Hephaistia by the Italian Archaeological School of Athens (dir. L. Bernabò Brea: 1936-1940), and later excavated by the University of Florence (dir. L. Beschi: 1982-1996), is one of the most important sanctuaries in the Northern Aegean. In addition to the remains of sacred buildings, documenting the main phases of life of the site, the Italian excavations brought to light two huge deposits of materials – mostly pottery –, “Saggio 2-3” and “Saggio 1”, datable respectively to the Archaic Age and the Late Classical and Hellenistic Period (late 5th – early 2nd centuries B.C.). From the “Saggio 1”, in particular, come about 1200 vessels almost complete in shape, which represent the most conspicuous group of Late Classical and Hellenistic ceramics found in the whole North Aegean area. This wide corpus is now being published by the Italian Archaeological School of Athens (dir. M.Ch. Monaco, University of Basilicata).
In this paper the attention will be focused on the wine transport amphorae found in the “Saggio 1”, represented by about 50 pieces datable to the 4th and the early 2nd centuries BC. These containers will be analyzed in their technical aspects, morphology and, if present, stamps, marks and inscriptions (engraved or painted), with the purpose of presenting a complete chronological and typological seriation of them, identifying their production centers and defining the commercial network of the sanctuary in relation to a commodity so precious for the performance of the Mystery ritual, as wine was. In this perspective the contribution will try to identify and describe the main features of Lemnian amphorae, so far unknown in the archaeological literature and certainly manufactured in the city of Hephaistia, from which the Kabeirion administratively depended.

Овальные щиты с вогнутыми внутрь боковинами или боковыми выемками являются маркёром расселения арийских  воинов–носителей индоарийского, иранского, анатолийских, древнегреческого, фракийского, италийского и галльского диалектов индоевропейского языка из Доаба (Двуречья) Ямуны–Ганги через Иран и Сирию–Анатолию в Эгеиду, на Балканы, в Центральную и Атлантическую Европу и в Италию. Анализ музейно-археологических данных о распространении овальных щитов с боковыми выемками или с вогнутыми внутрь боковинами демонстрирует хронологический и типологический приоритет санаулийских щитов Доаба (Двуречья) Ямуны–Ганги над таковыми у несито-лувийцев, греков, персов, италиков, галлов и фракийцев. Аргумент санаулийского щита или овального щита с вогнутыми внутрь боковинами или боковыми выемками как маркёра миграции воинов с арийской идеологией позволяет впервые в исторической науке с чисто внешней (археологической) стороны проследить по реальным физическим (вещным) остаткам культуры и идеологии продвижение воинских коллективов из долины Инда через Иран, Сирию и Анатолию в Эгеиду, на Балканы, в Италию и Центральную и Атлантическую Европу начиная с прим. 2000 г. до н.э.

Cyprus and the Aegean in the 5th c. BC: Hero cults at war

Throughout the first half of the fifth century BC, Greek cities and entire Greek-speaking regions engaged in various battles with the Persian Empire. During this fifty-year period which is known as the Persian Wars, there are many cases where new hero cults were founded and others reinforced. There are also cases of severe punishment by the Greeks to people who had desecrated sanctuaries dedicated to heroes.
This paper revisits the textual and archaeological evidence and proposes a contextual study on the fifth century BC hero-cults from Asia Minor to Athens and Cyprus. The author suggests that hero cults all over the Greek speaking communities were transformed during the war. This is not related strictly to a Panhellenic reaction and self-representation against the Persian invaders, but mostly to past (Homeric) representations of heroes and associated cultic activities.
The paper contextualizes archaeological and historical evidence in order to shed light on the way Greeks treated their past and recent heroes during the Persian Wars.
