Geopark and geotourism

Educational tourism is one of tourism type from the form of alternative tourism that has been developed between the conventional tourism era and modern tourism era. Generally, alternative tourism tends to develop according to sustainability principals. The packaging of tourism destination potential, Batur Global Geopark into educational tourism is a fundamental step of tourism product’s diversification in Bali. Therefore, the tourism potential in Batur-caldera Bali is supporting to be developed or packaged as an educational tourism, which is in accordance with Global Geopark Network (GGN) objectives. This study combines the quantitative and qualitative methodologies (multi-method), which are presented in the form of descriptions. The information will be analysed to determine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT). It formulated appropriate educational tourism product strategies by the elements; attraction, accessibilities, amenities, a supporting organisation (ancillary), activity, available package and community involvement. Furthermore, this study will also identify the factors of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges of educational tourism product development in the tourist area of Batur Global Geopark.

This data article is about non-volant small mammal (squirrel, rat and tree shrew) capture from fragmented forest understories within suburban areas of Setiu (Peladang Agro Resort and Setiu Wetland Research Station) and inhabited areas of Hulu Terengganu (Saok and Lasir waterfalls) that are situated in Terengganu State, Peninsular Malaysia. Fruits like banana and oil palm were individually placed into each cage before the cages were fastened onto three to five meter height tree branches. The traps were also spatially distributed about ten meters from each other. Under this installation, fifty baited traps were used during the twenty-four nights of sample collection. All animals caught were distinguished by morphology and released at the same location it was caught. The understory data comprise of seven non-volant mammal species from family groups Sciuridae, Muridae and Tupaiidae. Overall, Callosciurus notatus (n ¼ 17, 39%) were dominant in the capture pool from all sites. Comparatively, Sundascriurus tenuis (n ¼ 2, 4%) and Rattus rattus (n ¼ 4, 9.3%) were restricted to Saok Waterfalls and Setiu Wetland. Banana and oil palm fruits did not attract any

Подано методологічні та методичні підходи до формування геопарків – нової категорії збереження та сталого використання геоспадщини. Обґрунто-вано мережу потенційних геопарків в Україні на базі існуючих природоохо-ронних територій з багатою геоспадщиною. Репрезентовану схему структурної і територіальної організації для проектованих геопарків на заході України на прикладі Карпатського регіону та Поділля. Обґрунтовано головні проекту-вально-організаційні аспекти впровадження категорії національних геопарків у систему заповідних територій України. Ключові слова: геопарк, геоспадщина, мережа національних геопарків України. На початку ХХІ ст. геопарк – нова міжнародна категорія збереження геоспадщини, що активно впроваджують у різних регіонах світу. Їх створюють на природоохоронних територіях (резервати, ландшафтні і національні парки) та охоронних історико-культурних місцевостях (парки культури, історичні цент-ри). Науковою підставою для створення низки європейських геопарків стала реалізація програми Міжнародного Геологічного Союзу та Європейської Асо-ціації зі збереження геологічної спадщини (ProGEO) щодо виділення геоло-гічних місць (геотопів) міжнародного значення для різних регіонів Європи. Мета геопарків як нової форми охорони природи – привернути увагу громад-ськості до цінності Землі та її ресурсів, наголосити на важливості охорони і збереження геологічної спадщини. Геопарк – це територія з визначною геоло-гічною спадщиною і розробленою програмою (стратегією) сталого розвитку [18–20]. В Україні останнє десятиліття характеризується активізацією робіт з вив-чення і збереження геоспадщини, які виконують дослідники з геолого-гео-морфологічних дисциплін та практики геологічних і природоохоронних служб. Зокрема, геологічні служби провели паспортизацію заповідних геологічних об'єктів спочатку у чотирьох Карпатських областях, а згодом в інших обла-стях України, а також комплексну характеристику цінних геоморфологічних об'єктів, розпочали роботи з виділення об'єктів до Європейського списку гео-________________________________________

Geopark as a unified and comprehensive system is highly depended on local communities and their benefits. There are several ways which locals can benefit from a geopark such as establishing local guest houses and restaurants, local tour guiding, geoproducts production and etc. Geoproducts not only can bring income for producers but also could be an excellent way to transfer knowledge and raise awareness about a geopark and its related features. It is better any aspiring geopark take a self-evaluation and reaches the minimum standards of the UNESCO Global Geoparks. Products of these aspiring geoparks also need to be evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively to resolve their deficiencies. Product evaluation in Qeshm Island UGGp, Aras and Tabas Aspiring Geoparks showed that the main deficiency of their existing products were lack of their relevance to various geopark elements such as nature, geology, landscape and culture. These evaluations were based on the criteria specified in Geoproduct Quality Standard which includes basic quality assessment, product features and characteristics, Informative content, environment friendly, creativity and innovation, etc. Another issue identified in the geoproduct evaluation was the lack of proper packaging and sufficient information on the products. Lack of proper packaging not only causes damage to the product but also due to the lack of proper appearance, customers are less willing to buy these products. Good packaging is a package that protects the product, have an appearance which is attractive and appropriate to the goods and it also includes sufficient descriptions of the product and its storage conditions. In three focused areas including Qeshm Island, Aras and Tabas Aspiring Geoparks, products were damaged due to extreme climate conditions, products were supplied in bulk and without packaging or lack of sufficient description of the product on the packaging were preventing proper recognition of the products and their proper sale. By designing package and bundling for selected products of these geoparks, now the quality level of products has increased and the local community has been keen to improve their packaging. Using the geoproduct evaluation system can determine level of existing products and what actions are needed to be done to reach the optimum level. The work experience in these three aspiring geoparks proved that this issue in geopark needs attention and consideration too. Geoparks may design and prepare new concept products by using artists and designers and transfer the techniques to locals through workshop and training courses. In this way, local people will be encouraged to involve in producing new products in the framework of geopark priorities.
