Until Israel’s foundation Turkey did not pay much attention to Palestine in the same way that its predecessor, the Ottoman Empire, had done. Nonetheless within a few decades of Israel’s foundation in 1948, the Jewish state became a source of contention for Turkish-Arab relations. Turkey was one of the countries that recognized Israel soon after its proclamation of independence. During UN efforts and reports to find a way out for Arab- Israeli conflict before 1948 Turkey had supported Arab arguments opposing any kind of disintegration in Palestine lands. Turkey’s foreign policy towards Israeli-Arab conflict had a neutral-active perspective which could ease the process of confidence building measures and solution of matters. For a long time, Turkey was a peace facilitator having good relations with both sides. The sharp turn came at the beginning of 2000’s. Thus arguments on Turkey’s intend to be “new leader of Sunni Islam” in the Middle East, particularly since 2008 escalated especially after the Israeli takeover raid. The aim of this study is to unearth and analyse the so-called new foreign policy concept and the role of Israeli takeover raid in 2010 Gaza flotilla. Turkey’s shifting foreign policy concept, arguments on its post-Ottoman tendencies, leadership preferences and possible effects on its fluctuating popularity in the Arab communities considering possible challenges, advantages and disadvantages are also analysed.

A Companion to Modern Turkey's Centennial (Edinburgh University Press, 2023)

Modern Turkey’s engagement with the Middle East was largely driven by defensive Realpolitik until the end of the twentieth century. This is why scholars have been puzzled with the increasing militarization and offensiveness of Turkish foreign policy, particularly in the Middle East, as well as severing ties with the US-led Western alliance in the 21st century. The debates have been centered on the ideological choices (neo-Ottoman and Islamist) of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP in Turkish) since 2002 in the leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This chapter will broadly outline Turkey’s engagement with the Middle East since the early Republic and discuss the main continuities and ruptures until today.

Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) destaca-se entre os principais lepidopteros desfolhadores de culturas brasileiras nas duas ultimas safras. Visando aprimorar as tecnicas de criacao de H. armigera em laboratorio, foi avaliada uma metodologia de criacao no Laboratorio de Resistencia de Plantas a Insetos e Plantas Inseticidas (LARESPI) da FCA/UNESP, Botucatu. Para criacao, os adultos identificados quanto ao sexo e separados em casais sao mantidos em gaiolas (tubos de PVC, 20 cm de diâmetro e 30 cm de altura). A face superior das gaiolas sao vedadas com tecido voil, permitindo aeracao e alimentacao dos adultos. A face inferior e apoiada em prato de plastico (28 cm de diâmetro) recoberto com papel filtro. Internamente as gaiolas sao forradas com papel kraft natural servindo de substrato para oviposicao. Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu (TÜBİTAK) 4006 proje süreçlerine dair görüşlerini ve bu süreçte karşılaştıkları sorunları ve bu sorunlara önerdikleri çözümleri ortaya koymaktır. Objectives CYC remains an important treatment option for Behçet’s syndrome (BS) patients with life-threatening manifestations. However, adverse events may occur with CYC and this has led to increased use of biologic agents in other vasculitides. We investigated short and long term adverse events associated with CYC use in BS patients. Methods We conducted a retrospective chart review of all BS patients treated with CYC between 1972 and 2006. Patients were called in and a standard form was used for collecting demographic characteristics, indication for CYC, its cumulative dose and short term adverse events, defined as those causing discontinuation of CYC, hospitalization and/or death, long term adverse events, including infertility and malignancy, and outcome. Results Of 5790 BS patients, 198 (3.4%) had used at least one dose of CYC. Main indications were vascular or neurological involvement. Для проведення перепроектування (реінжинірингу) бізнеспроцесів (БП) з метою досягнення істотного поліпшення якості поліграфічного підприємства використовуються різні методи: експертні, нечіткої логіки, структурного аналізу та ін., які дозволяють в тій чи іншій мірі отримати більш адекватну (покращену) модель БП. Проте, вони не дозволяють провести: аналіз перебігу БП, визначення «вузьких місць» (місця зниження пропускної здатності) і причин їх виникнення, зміни поліграфічних процесів, моделювання сценаріїв їх поведінки. У зв'язку з цим актуальним є завдання розробки моделей бізнес-процесів на основі аналізу даних, що відображають послідовність їх дій. Отримана таким чином модель може бути використана для вирішення питань: візуального контролю та аналізу поліграфічних процесів, виявлення «вузьких місць» і пошуку способів їх удосконалення [1, 2]. Мета роботи Розробка методу синтезу технології Process Mining (РМ) та засобів імітаційного моделювання, які використовуються для перепроектування різних бізнеспроцесів з визначенням методів і моделей, що застосовуються для отримання варіантів покращеної моделі бізнес-процесів. Покращена модель бізнес-процесів формується за рахунок багаторазових моделювань бізнес-процесів для реалізації за отриманими метриками відхилень режимів їх реалізації, відсікання петель, дублювання, виявлення «вузьких місць» і причин їх виникнення. Vocal nodules are one of the most common forms of voice pathology which, if neglected, can grow and even become cancerous. Diagnosis of vocal nodules involves video stroboscopy in hospital conditions, and is often missed in the early stages which are treatable without surgery. Hence, simple methods based on phonation have gained prominence in diagnosis of voice pathologies. In this work, a novel feature extraction method based on a combination of MFCC and nonlinear recurrence plots is proposed. To compare the performance of this method, comparative results on a standard public dataset, and on the first clinically acquired dataset on an Indian population are presented. The proposed method yields a best accuracy of over 95% on the SVD as well as on the hospital-acquired dataset. The algorithm correctly classifies several early nodule data present in SRIHER data. It is shown that the misclassification occurs due to a few specific samples in the dataset. This work shows that recurrence plots can be a valuable additional feature for population-agnostic accurate detection of vocal nodules.
