A Call to the Qatari Government to Change Its Ways and Correct Its Mistakes1
The Forum Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, which brings together dozens of ulama, was
established in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE—a country of tolerance and peace-making—to call
for peace, love, and harmony between the sons and daughters of the Arab and Islamic umma and
humanity as a whole; and in order to combat radicalism, extremism, and terrorism.
In its annual gatherings and its various initiatives, the Forum has ceaselessly been calling for solidarity
and cooperation between all actors: governments, ulama, and the educated classes, being convinced
that terrorism will not be defeated, nor the disease eradicated, except through such solidarity; and
due to [the Forum’s] intense desire for the spirit of solidarity and its confidence that the logic of
cooperation will prevail, because this is the only way for the umma to reach safety.
The Forum has followed with extreme unease the activities of the Qatari government in ripping apart
Arab ranks, rebelling against the Gulf family, and insulting the generous faith of Islam by supporting
terrorist groups, inciting political instability in safe countries, and inflaming sectarian conflict. [This]
has led to remedial efforts by the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and several Arab and
Islamic countries to limit the evil that stems from the actions of the Qatari government that aim at
demolishing the foundations of stability and security in the region.
The Presidency of the Forum Promoting Peace, and the Secretariat-General call to the brotherly state
of Qatar to reconsider its position, return to the embrace of the Gulf family, relinquish its errors,
return to Arab and Islamic ranks in fighting terrorism, and promote unity and stability. Wisdom
requires that it rectify its errors and reconsider its stances. As is mentioned in the epistle of [the
second Caliph] Umar ibn al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, “Returning to the truth is better
than persisting in falsehood.”
