Ground Station Design for a Nano Satellite

Ground Station Design for a Nano Satellite

Sanjay Srikanth Nekkanti
Abstract
This paper would address the development of the ground station from design phase to testing phase using the commercially available of the self components (COTS) with the limited resources available. The ground station of SRMSAT uses the amateur frequency band for sending Tele-Commands from the ground station and to receive payload and housekeeping data through the beacon. The novelty lies in the in-house design and development of the transmitter, receiver system including the antenna’s (Quad Stacked Dual Polarized Yagi-Uda antenna) for ground station. The Ground station of the satellite is operated in VHF & UHF band, with uplink at 145.8MHz and downlink at 434.5MHz. It consists of transmitter, receiver and beacon signal receiver. Beacon signal will be transmitting satellite id and health parameters of the satellite. The Design would also address the in house development of the Tele-commanding software and Graphical user interface for various data interpretations.
