The graphical elements as parts of concept map construction are employed to assess both learning and teaching. Augmenting the use of concept maps, this study examines the graphical elements, such as, nodes, edges, cliques, diameters, travelling paths and structures of the graphs to relate to ones’ understanding to a topic, in this case, polynomials for middle school. In the aspect of teaching assessment, the teacher’ concept map drawn according to the lesson plan is served as the master map, which echoes the teacher’s expectation of students’ learning. On the other hand, students’ maps also reveal their understanding through the nodal relationship, which can be the definitions of terms, related examples, graph representation and algebraic manipulation. Data collection includes a focus group of 10 students and 1 teacher undergoing the concept map assessment task with restricted node terms. Graphically analyzed, students’ concept maps reveal some common elements as in the teacher’s ma...

Concept mapping, a tool originally developed to facilitate student learning by organizing and visualizing key concepts and their relationships, can also facilitate communication and knowledge sharing among faculty and administrators about the composition of courses. In this paper, the authors describe a specific application of visualizing the knowledge contained in an introductory programming course of an undergraduate Computer Information Systems program. The authors show how representing the knowledge structure of a course as a network of concepts using a concept map can enable the faculty to assess the breadth and depth of the knowledge imparted through the course. The authors discuss how a concept map that depicts the composition of a course can function as a useful instructional tool to assess and improve the quality of instruction that may enable meaningful learning among students.

Concept maps, a specific kind of mental model, are one method of representing and measuring an individual’s knowledge. They are an alternative tool for teaching through building relevant associations, and a method for measuring knowledge and recall over time. Concept maps provide a visual representation of conceptual and relationship knowledge within a particular domain. Concept maps look like a spider web, consisting of many nodes (i.e., key concepts) connected to one another by lines that indicate relationships. In the learning process, students can develop concept maps as an alternative to traditional note-taking by building associations of non-linear key concepts and organizing them to fit with their individual learning styles and frames of reference. The presence of concepts and relationships on a map can provide an instructor with a snapshot of student knowledge and understanding. The proximity and connection of key concepts provide insight for instructors attempting to evalua...
Concept maps can be considered as a multi-resource in e-learning environments. Concept maps present a strong power of integration, navigable and meaningful representation. Under this point of view, a student centred framework can be approached, as the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) requires. In the present work, we show five types of different significant uses of concept maps for learning purposes: a) as a guide for navigation inside the virtual environment; b) as a learning activity; c) as an expert model of knowledge representation; d) as an evaluation tool; and e) as facilitators of the construction of collaborative work.

In the context of the research project ‘The Dutch Global Age’ (NWO-Vici), we are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to examine the contemporary relevance of Netherlandish Old Masters in a globalising world. Seventeenth-century paintings are arguably the Netherlands’ most successful cultural export. The exhibition “The Dutch Masters” in Tokyo (2013) attracted the greatest number of visitors worldwide, similar displays followed in Cape Town, Beijing, Shanghai, Mumbai, and Abu Dhabi. As postdoctoral researcher, you will complement our team, which currently consists of 3 PhD candidates and the PI. The team explores interactions between the arts of the Netherlands and the world beyond Europe in an attempt to establish how Netherlandish art has contributed to a global worldview. Whereas the PhD projects all take historical approaches (such as iconography and technical art history), you will focus on the recent past and contemporary period. The central research question is how and why paintings from the seventeenth-century Netherlands have been collected and displayed in museums in Asia, Africa, and Latin America in the period 1975-2022.
—This study tried to investigate pragmatic competence in Iran's 2013 presidential election candidates. The data were collected from the recorded video of a live TV program at the Fararu news source by sampling the third debate. At first, the researchers employed Austin's (1962) and Searle's (1975) theory to extract types of speech act strategies used by the candidates. Then, the study used the Pearson chi-square formula to examine the frequency of speech acts types. Moreover, the present study compared types of locutionary, illocutionery, and perlocutionary speech acts used by candidates with the poll outcomes issued by press media, in order to achieve the assumption that speech acts might have a great effect on election's outcomes. It found three kinds of locutionary acts: declarative, imperative and interrogative. Also, tt found five kinds of illocutionary acts used by some candidates: declarative, representative, directive, expressive, and commissive. Consequently, the candidates were almost equally in using locutionary acts, but they were permanently different in illocutionary acts. Finally, tn terms of perlocutionary acts, the candidates were mostly intended to get the hearers know by their assertion, explanation, clarification, argumentation, etc.

This study evaluates the long-term impact of sustainable tourism practices on local communities and natural resources in developing countries. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, we conducted case studies in regions known for their biodiversity and tourism reliance. Quantitative data was collected through environmental monitoring and economic indicators, while qualitative insights were obtained from interviews with local stakeholders. The findings indicate that sustainable tourism practices contribute to environmental preservation and provide economic benefits to local communities. However, the success of these practices is contingent on robust policy frameworks, community engagement, and ongoing education. Despite initial positive outcomes, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited funding, and governance issues persist. This research underscores the importance of tailored sustainable tourism strategies that address specific local contexts and promotes the integration of comprehensive management plans to ensure long-term sustainability. Recommendations for policymakers and practitioners are provided to enhance the efficacy of sustainable tourism initiatives in developing countries.
