In spite of the fact that applications of Satir Family Therapy in different cultures are exemplifi ed in the literature, there is limited number of research related with the applications of this approach in Turkey. In this context, this article mainly aims to review conceptual frame of Satir Family Therapy and to exemplify this approach with the method of fi lm analysis. In this direction, theoretical concepts, role of the therapist, evaluation of families, purpose of therapy and intervention techniques of Satir Family Therapy are described and exemplifi ed with a fi lm analysis of “One True Thing”. Methods: One hundred nineteen correctional officers (109 males and 10 females) employed in Turkey participated in this study. In addition to WSSCO, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) were administered to the participants. Results: The internal consistencies and the item-total correlations were acceptable both for the whole scale and for its subscales; namely, “work overload,” “role conflict and role ambiguity,” “inadequacies in physical conditions of prison,” “threat perception,” and “general problems.” Test–retest reliability coefficient was 0.77 for total scale, and test-retest reliability coefficients ranged between 0.68 and 0.78 for the subscales. The total scale and most of the subscales were positively correlated with depression, anxiety, and hopelessness, and negatively correlated with perceived social support. Furthermore, all subscales significantly differentiated high depressive symptomatology group from the low depressive symptomatology group. Conclusions: The present results revealed that the psychometric properties of WSSCO were quite adequate. The scale can provide a potentially useful tool for research on job stress in correctional officers.

The Lisbon Council invited the Commission and Member States to promote all aspects concerning equal opportunities in the field of employment policies, including the reduction of occupational
segregation and the possibility to balance work and family life and to solve some of the increasing problems affecting several countries, such as lower and later fertility and the ensuing ageing of the population. Further, The basic idea of the ESM is that economic and social progress must go hand in hand; economic growth, in other words, is to be combined with social cohesion. Although some significant improvements have certainly been made—especially in terms of women’s emancipation, gender equity and maternity policies—it should however be noticed that some fundamental issues still remain unresolved and continue to cause problems. Such framework—equal opportunities on the one hand and female emancipation on the other, in a competitive and little-regulated market—seems to lead to a potential contraposition, or trade-off, between equal
opportunity and family (or family-friendly) policies.

The domestic sphere like the world of work is also effected by issues such as economic uncertainty, work intensification, demands of continual professional studies and the difficulties of balancing all these pressures while raising a family. This paper explores these issues with reference to recent literature.

Over the past few years I have noticed a slow shift towards psychologists preferring the term ‘work dependency’ to ‘workaholism’ (i.e., work addiction). Persaud (2004) argues that psychologists prefer the term ‘work dependency’ because ‘‘it captures the condition better’’ (p. 36). As far as I am concerned, workaholism is still a useful construct.

Abstract:
This article contributes to the ongoing debate on the economic determinants of fertility behavior by addressing the role of job insecurity in couples’ intentions concerning parenthood and its timing. It starts from the hypothesis that cultural values moderate individuals’ reactions to job insecurity and the way it is related to family formation. With a systematic thematic content analysis of a set of semi-structured interviews with childless men and women around the age of 30 in eastern and western Germany, we are able to show that there are substantial differences in the consequences of job insecurity on intentions to have a first child. In western Germany, a relatively secure job career is expected to precede family formation, and this sequence of transitions is rather rigid, whereas in eastern Germany job security and family formation are thought of and practiced as parallel investments. We suggest that the lack of convergence in family formation patterns between eastern and western Germany after the unification of the country in 1990 is partially related to different attitudes toward job insecurity in the two contexts.
