In this paper, we would like to propose our web-based application for Islamic history learning system, named Digitory—Digital History. There are two main navigations to browse historical stories on the web. One is location-based navigation using on-line map which gives users access to understand events during Islamic introduction to Indonesia based on the location. Alternatively, users can browse on time base using sliding navigation marked timely, so they can comprehend history in time sequence. Implementing semantic web, this web-app can suggest users related articles, either based on time series, location similarities, or time-domain similarities, and also suggest pictures related to the articles. AJAX strengthen the real-time access and interactivity as users navigate around the web.
By the end of this research, we will have the web-app prototype completed with its fundamental location-based navigation, semantic relationship among articles and pictures, and timebased navigation system. As the web-app deployed, we have some volunteers to try our application so that we can evaluate its result, particularly its effectiveness.

Currently, we perceive that digital and network technologies increase in their importance where the Web plays a central role. In an application of online learning, Web is used as representative supports for producing, managing and distributing contents. This space is evolving rapidly and is governed by factors regarding its function and modes of signification, so it poses difficulties for teachers, especially for extracting the relevant informations. It is in this context that our research work is situated. Our goal was to offer a Web-based architecture for an e-learning domain. First time using the Web as a medium documentary based on a search engine 'Google', going beyond to the proposal of a model for creating a field for e-Learning. Then, we studied the evolutionary lines of the semantic web and more specifically anthologies, creating and integrating ontology in the same model. We finished by applying a filtering method to extract the relevant parts to build the field of online education.

It is well known that a user takes an indeterminate time to find his needs and his educational demands. This long duration is due to the substantial wealth of the Web, which has a very large information space. Our objective registers in this context. To this end, we focused mainly on emergent of new method for users to reduce the time of search and filter for the use of search engines / other Web sites. This method will allow to finding educational segments in a space of unstructured information, for educational use by learners.

People prefer journals to be published online rather than to be published in printed form because of cost and availability. An online journal has multifaceted advantages, such as for example, publication time is instantaneous and the Editor can almost single-handedly manage the entire publication process. The readers can access the journal contents from anywhere and at anytime. By moving towards web-based journal systems, not only are we saving money, we are also making the transition towards the paradigms of green computing. In the United States and many European countries, most of the IT related journals are published online over the World Wide Web. India is also moving very fast in this direction. In this paper the authors have given a brief idea how to develop a web-based Journal Management System with all possible options in functionality and security. In the present research paper, the authors have demonstrated the first phase of the work and it will be implemented very soon in the authors’ parent institution.

Attraverso un'analisi 'empirica' dell'utenza remota di alcuni siti web museali italiani e stranieri a confronto, si analizzano criticità e potenzialità dell'uso del web per queste istituzioni museali.

Information technologies are a major source of diversity in journalism. Not only because of the different media that arise, but the new dynamics of work and introduction new of requirements imposed on expressive journalistic message (design,
writing...) The social context of globalization and new technologies have led to other forms production, distribution and reception of information, three phases which divide the process of journalistic communication. Every day new devices and tools are added to those mentioned above in exponential growth that sometimes appears to cause an excess of choices and opportunities that journalists and the audience don´t know yet.
More specifically, the aim of this paper is to categorize new technologies in the journalist work determine the impact they have had on each phase and the role these new technologies play. In ours study we use a descriptive and exploratory approach to structure the new technologies. This list of technologies arises from two perspectives: from the media and from the audience. In the phase of production we examine the impact of information technology in pre-production, production and postproduction; in analyzing the distribution channels -transmission technologies and formats; and finally, at the reception -performing a

Scientific LogAnalyzer offers several features not available in other log file analysis tools — for example, organizational criteria and computational algorithms suited to aid behavioral and social scientists. Scientific LogAnalyzer is highly flexible on the input side (unlimited types of log file formats), while strictly keeping a scientific output format. Features include (1) free definition of log file format, (2) searching and marking dependent on any combination of strings (necessary for identifying conditions in experiment data), (3) computation of response times, (4) detection of multiple sessions, (5) speedy analysis of large log files, (6) output in HTML and/or tab-delimited form, suitable for import into statistics software, and (7) a module for analyzing and visualizing drop-out. Several methodological features specifically needed in the analysis of data collected in Internet-based experiments have been implemented in the Web-based tool and are described in this article. A regression analysis with data from 44 log file analyses shows that the size of the log file and the domain name lookup are the two main factors determining the duration of an analysis. It is less than a minute for a standard experimental study with a 2 X 2 design, a dozen Web pages, and 48 participants (ca. 800 lines, including data from drop-outs). The current version of Scientific LogAnalyzer is freely available for small log files. Its Web address is h

In a Web experiment, participants were randomly assigned to 2 semantic differentials either made from discrete 5-point ordinal rating scales or from continuous visual analogue scales (VASs) with 250 gradations. Respondents adjusted their ratings with VASs more often to maximize the precision of answers, which had a beneficial effect on data quality. No side effects like differences in means, higher dropout, more nonresponse, or higher response times were observed. Overall, the combination of semantic differentials and VASs results in a number of
advantages. Potential for further research is discussed.
Opportunities and concerns related to Web 2.0: Social networking technologies explored

1. Introduction
Since the dawn of the Internet innovative technologies have evolved rapidly and 'social networking' technologies specifically have gained value from the recent surge in popularity and increased use of these networked technologies. The exposure and growth that social networking technologies have experienced in recent history has created a phenomenal following by individuals from diverse walks of life. However, the negative press that surrounds online social networks is ardent and in some cases valid, overshadowing the opportunities that online social networking may present to organizations. This paper aims at investigating social networking technology and the risks and opportunities associated with it, to allow organizations to make informed decisions before simply discarding this communication and collaboration tool (IBM, 2007; Liebowitz, 2007; News24, 2007).
2. Research Methodology
The research problem focuses on the effect of online social networking on employee productivity within organizations and the empirical study explored this effect within tertiary educational institutions specifically. In addressing the research problem this paper will provide an overview of the literature review findings as well as the relevant empirical research findings with regard to what online social networking entails. Other areas explored within this paper include issues regarding the possible consequences if employees are allowed unrestricted access to online social networks; the value of applying social networking technologies to an organization's marketing strategy and how online social networking can contribute to the productivity of an organisation.
This paper reports on the various issues surrounding online social networking technologies by following a qualitative research approach to explore several online social networking areas of current interest, including virtual communities of practice, social capital and intellectual capital, productivity, creativity and innovation, marketing and specifically the relationship between employees' online social networking activity and their productivity. To this extent a quantitative component supplemented the research design in the form of an online survey. The questionnaire was developed according to the guidelines of the Statistical Consultation Services of the University of Johannesburg, who also assisted in the capturing and analysis of the data.
3. Research Findings
The findings reported in this paper highlight the somewhat contradictory opinions with regard to providing unrestricted online social networking access to employees and the resulting positive and negative effects thereof. Those indications of areas where online social networks do enhance the productivity of creative employees will be discussed, with an indication of enhanced employee productivity as a result of interaction within a virtual community of practice via an online social networking platform. In a comparison by Wenger and Snyder (2000:142), it is noted that the purpose of a community of practice is to develop members' capabilities. The purpose of an informal network, like an online social network, is to collect and pass on business information. If the purposes of these groups are combined within a virtual team, the members may experience capacity building whilst sharing business information, adding value in two areas simultaneously. This paper explores the enhancement of productivity through collaboration via communities of practice in online social networks.
The possible advantages of an improved marketing strategy, which incorporates Web 2.0 technologies, such as online social networking, will also be investigated and discussed. Conversely, the potential clashes with traditional management practices include technological restrictions, issues regarding the use of personal and organizational time and space, employer locus of authority, employee locus of control, organizational productivity, and freedom to be creative. These potential negative implications associated with unrestricted access to online social networking sites will also be explored within this paper.
4. Conclusion
When online social networks are implemented by productive employees, various positive effects may become evident. Bryan, Matson and Weiss (2007:2) support this view by stating that personal social networks increase the value of collaboration by reducing the search and coordination cost of connecting parties who have related knowledge and interest. As with all new inventions, online social networking can be used to the advantage of an organization, but has to be managed and channeled in a pro-active way.
Clarke and Rollo (2001:183) suggest a possible solution to the dilemma of attempting to manage online social networking, by mentioning that "knowledge management in the knowledge economy consists of the systematic management of the intellectual capabilities of people". In their opinion, the most successful way to support these capabilities would be to understand how to discover, organize and allow the sharing of intellectual activity. The sharing of intellectual activity is one of the major enhancing features of online social networking.
However, the positive contribution that can be made to an organisation by the use of online social networks can easily be overshadowed by the negative technological implications of malware such as viruses and spyware. In certain instances, it is irrelevant if an organization is using the strongest encryption technology or authentication processes across its network, as a weak element within any area of the organization's network, will cause attackers to focus on this vulnerability to eventually exploit it. If online social networks prove to be such a security liability, its negative implications may outweigh its positive effects. A possible solution to this problem is presented by Schmidt and Arnett (2005:69) who note that prevention, detection and remediation efforts will play a key role in safe and secure computing in the foreseeable future.
