Website, as one of tourism promoting media, is able to represent images of the promoted countries. Layout of websites has role in delivering identity or guiding browsers. This paper is intended to analyze website’s components and its interface layout of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Brunei
Darussalam’s official tourism websites. This research is trying to depict all components that should be applied in tourism website and communication differences among researched websites.

Design and Evaluation of Web-Based Learning Environments Using Information Foraging Models
Tselios, N., Katsanos, C., Kahrimanis, G., & Avouris, N. (2007). Design and Evaluation of Web-based Learning Environments using Information Foraging Models. In Pahl, C. (ed.), Architecture Solutions for E-Learning Systems, pp. 320-339, Hershey, PA, USA: Information Science Reference.

The main aspect addressed by this proposal is that of increasing findability of information in large web sites of learning information content by applying methods and tools based on the information foraging model. It is argued that through this approach, issues of learning content structure and usability may be also addressed. In particular, we propose four different ways to have information foraging theory informing the design. Directives, to ensure proper learning content structuring and cues with strong scent, tools based on LSA to automate the design and evaluation process, methods to construct archetypal learner’s profiles from user data and added functions to realise collaborative information filtering and personal information patch creation, thus allowing learners to organize their reference materials in a meaningful and constructive way.
Designing typozilla : an online application that appeals to gifted children

Online enrichment activities and social opportunities are only successful if they are able to attract and sustain attention of the advanced interests of gifted children. The aim of the research is to design an online application that appeals to gifted children and recognises the identified intellectual and social needs within the New Zealand context. This was achieved through research through design by establishing a design strategy that uses the findings of investigations and applies them to a prototype application. Developers of online content for gifted children may benefit from this research. As an initial investigation a survey was conducted about how gifted New Zealand primary school children are using online applications. It was assumed following the literature review that online applications would appeal to gifted children if they teach a new skill, have multiplayer functionality and address higher order thinking skills. Basic design characteristics of the most popular gaming websites amongst gifted children (from the survey) were then used to inform the design strategy and to develop the prototype online application typozilla. Key findings were retrieved through observation of gifted children using typozilla. The majority of children observed were especially enthusiastic seeing other players’ avatars within multiplayer areas and competing against each other. They enjoyed learning a new skill (which was touch-typing) and engaging in creative tasks. In interviews all gifted children confirmed that they perceived the typozilla design as appealing.
Design and Analysis of e-Journal Management Systems: SXC International Journal of Advanced Computing Sciences (SXC-IJACS)
Co-authored with "Sahon Bhattacharyya" and two other supervisors.
The immense progress in Information Technology
has accelerated its use in the domains of management. In the
has accelerated its use in the domains of management. In the
fields of academic publishing too, it has had its great influence.
With the advent of the client-server based models of computing
and the World Wide Web, the whole process merely reduces to
typing out the document on the computer, a series of mouse
clicks and receiving information via email. Not only does this
save the cost of paper publications, it also saves the valuable
time of both the publishers and the authors. By making the
actual publication process quite convenient, easy and
accessible, it helps in shifting the focus of the publishers more
onto the quality and content of the journals themselves.
Numerous publishing companies have either developed or
acquired such IT systems for these tasks, notably. This
paper makes a systematic case study of the general functions
that such a system has to demonstrate, with SXC-IJACS as an
example. The SXC-IJACS system has been developed for the
authors' institution as part of the degree thesis requirement of
Bhattacharyya and Mondal. A paper on the more technical
aspects of the work has been previously published at an international conference.

This article itemises the many points of necessary inaccuracy and explains why they are unavoidable and unresolvable. Issues are categorised in terms of conceptual problems, software issues, and the nature of the web.
Understanding Design with VGI using an Information Relevance Framework
With May, A. and Mitchell, V.
Paper with the editor, publishing in Transactions in GIS in the near future

A multi-methods approach consisting of participatory observation, focus groups and diary studies, was used to study how VGI and PGI were actually used by a target user group. A theoretical framework of information relevance was used to understand the attributes of information that were most important in relation to the characteristics of the users’ activity and their community. The key finding was that the discussion amongst GIS designers should not be whether to choose VGI or PGI as the information data set, but to consider which combination of VGI and PGI relating to different geographic features and task characteristics will best meet the users’ needs. VGI is likely to be most relevant to the user when a geographic feature is dynamic rather than static in nature, and can also provide a level of detail that is unlikely to arise through PGI. These findings have implications for how different forms of information are most effective for different usage situations. Above all, a case is presented for the implementation of User Centred Design (UCD) principals when integrating VGI and PGI together in a single mashup based product.

Web Layout Mining (WLM): A New Paradigm for Intelligent Web Layout Design
IEEE 4th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology (ICICT 2006) pp:639-650

The common Website editors just help to draw the intended layouts but the problem is to design the accurate Web layout according to the demand and latest trends and style. This approach is useful when the user has a specific layout already in mind and is familiar with the Web page layout principles as to what kinds of layouts are possible. It is intrinsically difficult for particularly those who have limited artistic and creative abilities to design good layout from scratch which is acceptable in every respect. An automated system is required that has ability to mine the layouts of the desired type of Websites. The designed system for "Web layout mining (WLM)" helps to mine the most popular web-layouts from the Internet database and design a Web-layout that is near to acceptable and have all the marks and features of modern requirements. The designed system actually bases on a rule based algorithm which helps the user to search out some samples related to his Website category and afterwards the user himself chooses a desired Web-layout and designs its own one with proper implications and variations according to his own requirements.

Purpose - The aim of this case study is to present one library's experiences consulting with a usability expert during the design and implementation phases of a new academic library website and the lessons learned during the process.
Design/methodology/approach - The library staff worked with the consultant so that he understood the work of the librarians and goals for the website. Together the consultant and library staff developed a series of tests to measure the usability of the site. The librarians implemented the tests, gradually taking the leadership role in the process.
Findings - The study confirms the value of usability testing as a tool to bring to light some of the ambiguities and complexities of a library website for users. The study demonstrates that librarians have developed an expertise and knowledge base that transfers well to the evaluation of websites and online resources. The experience of the University of Michigan AAE Library reveals that usability testing should be an ongoing exercise so that the website remains relevant to the users.
Practical implications - This study advises librarians of the value of testing and that, on the one hand, test results confirm what one imagines about the users' experiences, but on the other hand they reveal the unexpected strategies and understandings of the users.
Originality/value - This case study provides a useful example of the value of working with a usability expert, a discussion of what to expect during the process, and advice about the role of the librarian in such an endeavor.
