Rome territory has always been a subject of particular interest for its past, characterized by the presence of remains, fairly visible, related to a city so important for the ancient history.
Even though its recent history has played a key role both for the archaeological discoveries, that for the intensity of researches carried out. In fact, since its proclamation as Capital of Italy, the urban expansion of the small nucleus of nineteenth-century has been unceasing, and has been, at the same time, the cause of massive destructions, but also, in many cases, of significant discoveries. Therefore the city has always had territories between town and country, although, over the decades, what was originally placed in plowed fields, has gradually become part of an increasingly dense and more extended urban framework.
Having to deal often with not fully urbanized areas, archaeological territorial research has had to adapt its methodologies to this so special context: not plowed fields, free and highly visible, but areas, even if not built, attacked and altered by human presence.

In this paper we present the results from a survey carried out from 2000 to 2003 in the Guadiana Menor valley (Jaen province,
Spain). The sampling strategy was designed to explore the presence of archaeological fi nds in very different landscape units, from the fl oodplains to the uncultivated slopes of the Cazorla massif. Field survey revealed very high contrasts in fi nd densities, suggesting different patterns of land use. On the valley fl oor we recorded a weak carpet-like pattern of sherds dating from the Iron Age to Roman times. Its distribution suggests intensive agricultural activities such as manuring in a context of increasing pressure on resources during the Romanization process. In the highland area, the much more scarce evidence seems to be connected with pastoral activity,
intensive farming of small valleys, and control over strategic mountain passes. We will here present methodological issues relating to the fi eld survey and reliability problems raised by erosion and land use history of the study area.

This paper presents the results of the Design Workshop held at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Cagliari in July 2010.
The aim of this work was to convey to participants the knowledge necessary to execute the preliminary documentation of an urban space, in this case a system of historic squares. The workshop was related to the courses of Architecture, so the requested documentation was aimed at gathering preliminary information to prepare a possible project. To obtain proper documentation of the architecture at urban scale is necessary to supplement traditional methods of representation (hand drawing, sketching) with the informatics means (CAD, 3D modeling, rendering, post production of images), highlighting what are the areas where the former can not be replaced by the second and which of the traditional means have been completely overcome by the use of new technology.
The case study was used as a test to create a critical awareness of the tools. It was useful to realize that there is not a only one instrument to resolve a problem as huge as the documentation of urban space, but there are different degrees of approach and depth of knowledge related through a parallel awareness of the potential of commercial software tools.

In my understanding, this type of source is one of the most promising, in particular in relation to the history of social sciences in Europe and its plentitude of grantees (“cultural ambassadors”). As a common exercise, every Fulbright Grantee, at the end of his/her term, had to submit a final report, based on a questionnaire including questions on the preparation of the stay abroad, the exchange experiences in general, and the educational (more precisely, academic) experiences in the host country.

In this paper I present evidence from tax records and three large scale field experiments testing social influence effects on giving in the Netherlands. The experiments are conducted among
university alumni (n=6,672) and among large random samples of the Dutch population (n=1,474; n=1,765). Also tax records are used to test peer effects among a very large random sample
(n=172,947) of citizens in the Netherlands. The experiments show evidence for positive but weak social information effects on small donations. Social information effects are stronger in
conditions in which people are actively imagining what others are giving. The tax records show that amounts donated by high level donors (exceeding 1% of income) are strongly sensitive to
changes in the tax price as well as to changes in giving by other high level donors in the area of residence.

This paper reports... more Participation in voluntary associations is often believed to make citizens more trusting of others. This paper reports longitudinal analyses of a time intensive form of participation—volunteering—and generalized social trust using data from three waves of the Giving in the Netherlands Panel Study spanning 4 years (2002–2006; n = 692) refuting this belief. Trust is relatively stable over a 4 year period (0.73). Changes in volunteering are not related to changes in trust. Trust is higher among volunteers mainly because of selective attrition: persons with low trust are more likely to quit volunteering.
