During the Soviet era, definitions, concepts and methods of population statistics were a permanent target of political manipulations. Today this Soviet legacy may be a serious danger for population statistics in some post-Soviet countries where there are unfavorable demographic situation.

Damos a conhecer estatísticas
descritivas e compreensivas da realidade concelhia, distrital e nacional sobre os equipamentos mais relevantes de respostas comunitárias (Centro de Dia e Serviço de Apoio Domiciliário),
assim como de internamento (Lares de Idosos).
Relationship between Entry Qualifications and Performance in Graduate Education

Less known, however, is how good the UCPA at predicting graduate performance in a different discipline. This paper discusses a study on the relationship between UCPA, undergraduate program of study, and graduate performance – operationalised as graduate CPA (GCPA) – in a Master in Technical and Vocational Education program (MTVE). Data were gathered on UCPA, their undergraduate program of study, gender and previous university of 612 MTVE students using their application forms and academic records. The large number of programs of study was reduced to five groups of disciplines namely, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business and Management, and Others. Descriptive statistics and linear regression were used to analyse the data. The results showed that both undergraduate program of study and UCPA are predictors of GCPA and the extent to which UCPA contributes towards GCPA varies across programs of study.

Misconceptions in statistics among students of non-statistics major are quite common. This paper will present the humble efforts of the author in trying to reduce misconceptions among her statistics students using technology. The examples were drawn from the teaching and learning of statistics to Master of Technical and Vocational Education students in the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. EXCEL spreadsheet, power point presentation slides and a concept-mapping tool were integrated into classroom instructions on descriptive statistics. Increased class-room interactions were observed through out the learning process and a decrease in the percentage of students committing the specific misconceptions were recorded.
Calculating and graphing within-subject confidence intervals for ANOVA

A key distinction is between intervals supporting inference about patterns of means (and differences between pairs of means in particular) and those supporting individual means. It is argued that the former are best accomplished by adapting intervals proposed by Cousineau (2005) and Morey (2008) so that non-overlapping confidence intervals for individual means correspond to a confidence for their difference that does not include zero. The latter can be accomplished by fitting a multilevel model. In situations where both types of inference are of interest, the use of a two-tiered CI is recommended. Free open-source, cross-platform software for these interval estimates and plots (and for some common alternatives) is provided in the form of R functions for one-way within-subject and two-way mixed ANOVA designs. These functions provide an easy to use solution to the difficult problem of calculating and displaying within-subject confidence intervals.

This paper explores the economic, political, social, and cultural positions of the Muslim population of Birmingham, UK. The analysis is largely based on secondary official data in an attempt to characterise the socio-demographic features of the Muslim profile in Birmingham. The paper aims to present a helpful and up-to-date contextualisation in relation to the group of interest. First, there is an analysis of the processes of migration and settlement to the city from former New Commonwealth countries
and new migrants from Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. Second, there is an examination of the economic context of ethnic minorities and Muslims in the city, exploring the demographic profile and charting the experiences in education, the labour market, health, and housing. Third, there is a
descriptive analysis of important media events in 2005, which were important for Muslims in the city but also for others in the area. Finally, the conclusions summarise salient concerns relating to debates about what it is to be Muslim, British and a minority in the current context. These refer to both the
structural and material realities of deprivation, but also concerns about cultural and religious discrimination.
