In 2006, the Italian art historian Anna Maria Carruba challenged the traditional dating of the Capitoline Wolf, claiming the bronze statue to be medieval.
Recent books "La Lupa Capitolina" (Roma 2010) and "Die römische Wölfin / The Lupa Romana" (Stuttgart 2011) discuss the dating and the historical context of the Lupa from various points of view.
No final answer of the dating can be given, but the books give a great example of a fruitful interdisciplinary discussion, being a solid base for further interpretations of the enchanting icon of Rome.

Professor Cristina Mazzoni of the University of Vermont has written the first comprehensive study of the Roman she-wolf. This is a wide-ranging book in which this author illustrates various roles of the she-wolf by analyzing paintings, statues, maps, poetry, fiction, and historical narrative from antiquity to contemporary times.
"She-Wolf. The Story of a Roman Icon" is a vividly written book, which skillfully combines diverse sources and standpoints into a coherent and readable study. The black-and-white photographs, some of which were taken by the author herself, support the text and illustrate the diversity of the visual representations of the she-wolf across the centuries.

They were identified as Campana lastra. Five years later, six more examples were discovered during the excavation of the Plaça de la Font in Tarragona. The collection now consists of 14/15 pieces with four different inconographic motifs: “Women flanking a candelabrum”, “Theseus recognised by his father”, “The adorning of a Hermes” and “Palaestra portico scene!”. Ther interest lies in the following factors: their absolute exceptionality (They are extremely rare outside of Italy), their geographical concentration in the capital and its territory, and their precise chronological and cultural ascription. Archaeometric analyses have revealed a Latian origin for one and a local manufacture for the rest. This fact allows us to propose the subject of the adoption of iconographic models from the capital (Rome) in post-Augustan Tarraco.

The study of the integration to the Vrbs of the soldiers coming from Gallia Belgica is based on epigraphic sources. The article offers the transcription, the French translation and the analysis of the inscriptions of the six known Belgian soldiers (four praetorians and two equites singulares Augusti) who served in the Roman garrison during the Imperial period. The onomastics and the mention of the names of the divinities provide information which makes its contribution to the study of the complex Romanization process. Favoured by the institutionalized notion of communis patria, the provincial traditions and cultures are intertwined with the way of life of the Imperial capital in a subtle alchemy revealed by the epigraphy.

We propose here a synchronic study of the corpus by first looking at the works in their architectural context : was there an appropriate setting for the themes shown decorated sites? Then we narrow the scope of the analysis by considering the place of the scene depicted, not only within the building but within the wall itself. The figurative scenes form an eclectic corpus : megalographia; pictures, friezes, etc…Did the painted wall – which, as we know, had a standardised organization – offer in its structure a privileged association between certain areas of scenery and some types of compositions ? Finally, using the preserved material, a brief chronological summary considers a diachronic analysis of the evolution of the stage setting of the themes listed in the Gallo-Roman painting.
