For the special case of the small quantum group we show that the periodic components are homogeneous tubes and that the non-periodic components have shape Z[A_\infty] if the component contains a module for the infinite-dimensional quantum group.

Populism, or, politics at the edges of democracy (2003)

More recently, the literature has begun to discuss the connection between populism and democracy. This article takes on this relation by thinking populism as an internal periphery of democratic politics. It proceeds to develop this intuition by identifying three possible iterations of the populist phenomenon. The first one looks at populism as a mode of representation. The second possibility, populism as a symptom of democratic politics, ups the ante by looking at the tensions that push populism to the edges of democracy without necessarily stepping out. The third line of inquiry looks at the populist mobilization as a possible underside or nemesis of democracy.
Internet e Parlamento: Um estudo dos mecanismos de participação oferecidos pelo Poder Legislativo através de ferramentas online / Internet, Participation and Parliament in Brazil

Abstract in English available: This article examines the opportunities of participation offered by six Brazilian Parliament websites: the Federal House of Representatives, and its corresponding Assemblies in five states (Bahia, Goiás, Pará, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo). In order to consider how adequate the participatory resources found in these websites are, one takes into account the deliberative model of democracy. All the experiences but the Federal House of Representatives website are shy regarding the employment of the tools technically available.

If a quasi-hereditary algebra $\L$ is Koszul with respect to $\Delta$, then $\L$ and the extension algebra of $\Delta$ are Koszul dual in a sense explained below, implying in particular that their bounded derived categories of finitely generated graded modules are equivalent. We also prove that the extension algebra of $\Delta$ is Koszul in the classical sense.

We consider filtrations of objects in an abelian category $\catA$ induced by
a tilting object $T$ of homological dimension at most two. We define three pairwise
disjoint extension closed subcategories $\mathcal{E}^0, \mathcal{E}^1$ and $\mathcal{E}^2$
with $Hom(\mathcal{E}^i,\mathcal{E}^j)=0$
for $j>i$, such that each object in $\catA$ has a unique filtation with factors in these
categories. In dimension one, this filtration coincides with the classical two-step
filtration induced by the torsion pair. We also give a refined filtration, using the derived
equivalence between the derived categories of $\catA$ and the module category of
$End_\catA (T)^{op}$.

The general strategy of the argument is to consider the matrix group given by image of a representation and study its Zariski closure in GL(n, C).
Postcards from the Economic Abyss: What Ireland and Iceland can teach us about Tea Parties, Big Societies and small government

This paper considers whether there are lessons for advocates of the Tea Party or Big Society from the governance failures that occurred in recent years in Ireland and Iceland.
Both of these movements call for more proximate or locally-situated decision-making as a way of making government better or more responsive. Yet two of the countries which suffered the most spectacular economic collapses in recent years have unusually proximate systems of government. This paper considers whether this suggest that locally-situated or proximate systems of government may be prone to particular forms of policy dysfunction.
This paper is currently being revised so comments or suggestions are welcome.

Consequently, algebras of finite global dimension have no 2-truncated cycles, and therefore satisfy a higher version of the ``no loops conjecture".
