This then becomes intertwined with a pedagogical strategy of recruitment, whereby others are encouraged to share in this ideological framework and the political practices based upon it. In this paper, we propose an alternative based on practices of freedom and the role of love in subverting interdependent patterns of normativity and hierarchy. Bringing together anarchist, feminist and queer theories alongside authoethnographic accounts from classrooms and other spaces of pedagogy, we highlight the value of a multiplicity of stories, of telling stories and doing roles differently, and of releasing stories for the immediacy of connection.
THE QUEER JOYS OF SEXLESS MARRIAGE: COUPLED CITIZENSHIP'S HOT BED!
Jones, T. (2009). The Queer Joys of Sexless Marriage: Coupled Citizenship’s Hot Bed! Sextures, 1(1)

Yet the new sexless marriage championed in this paper does not concern cold-bedded companionships, but the legal union of two citizens whose sexed bodies remain unspecified, unsignified and unimportant … in legislation (their importance in bed is left to participating citizens to determine). This article considers the recent changes to marriage legislation in European countries through the frame of Queer Theory. It particularly reflects on the introduction of the sexless marriage in Norway and Sweden, in the context of other models. It applies Judith Butler’s notions of gender performativity to the policisation of partnerships, applying her concepts of Overplay, Transference and Erasure in the disruption of the heterosexual matrix within coupled citizenship. It considers the varying value of marriage models to Queer projects in “opening up” citizenship, offering new perspectives on “gay marriage” debates.
A Queer and Trans Fat Activist Timeline zine – digital version
I published this zine in May 2011. It is a version of a timeline that was co-constructed at a workshop at NOLOSE 2010 and is now an archival object. The zine is an attempt to talk about how fat activist histories are constructed and dispersed. It is a way of working with multiple fat activisms over time and place.

Part of the workshop proposal was that I would make a zine of the timeline which would be donated to archives and distributed in an attempt to create conversations about queer and trans fat activist histories. For those not in the know, a zine - rhymes with bean - is a homemade publication. The zine includes an explanation, some pictures and the text of the timeline itself. It's about a movement, ideas, experiences, a workshop, a conference, zines, histories, places, collective memory, community, critical reflection, cultural imperialism, dialogue, texts, feminism, archives, many things, and stuff I haven't considered too. It's also about fat people, queer people, and trans people. And it's about me and the things I do as a fat activist.

...Recent publications in queer studies point towards several directions, such as the dimension of “anti-social”-ity of “queer”, temporalities of non-normative desires, and geographies of non-Western sexualities. Clearly “there is something in the air” around these issues, which quickly became noticeable from the abstracts we received for consideration for publication. Problems of contextualizations of queer; the reception in non-English speaking contexts where “queer” is an empty word without history and negative connections; the impact of spatial and temporal contexts on queer formation and academic practises of story telling and a problematisation of privileges, positionality and canon setting in queer studies of today – are the hot topics....
