The deity whose name is derived from the common Semitic *ˀilu ‘god’ and conventionally rendered as El in... more The deity whose name is derived from the common Semitic *ˀilu ‘god’ and conventionally rendered as El in religious-historical literature was venerated in a variety of West Semitic religious traditions. In this contribution I argue that it is also attested in Anatolian transmission, albeit hidden in an adjectival derivative. The content of the Iron Age Luvian inscription TÜNP 1 indicates that its author saw El as a part of his cultural universe, not an exotic foreign deity.
