(English version): The devotees of San Benito de Palermo go through the streets carrying an image of the Saint and asking for alms. The questions that concern this paper include: a discussion of this tradition which is both secular and sacred in character; the religious persuasion of those involved; and the distinction between religious rites and the means of sustenance. The objectives of this research include an explanation of the relation between the religious and the secular in this particular persuasion. The methods applied are those of ethnology; analysis is based upon implied meaning. The conclusion is that for some people the intervention of the Saint is welcome and justifies the devotees’ personal need for money. The presence invoked by the idol, the touching of the figure, or dancing before it, is a periodical ritual and the service of the devotees offers a good opportunity to make a participatory donation.
Multiple Forms of Perceived Discrimination and Health among Adolescents and Young Adults

The present article uses data from the Black Youth Culture Survey, a nationally representative, racially and ethnically diverse sample of 1,052 adolescents and young adults to investigate the prevalence, distribution, and mental and physical health consequences of multiple forms of perceived discrimination. The findings suggest that disadvantaged groups, especially multiply disadvantaged youth, face greater exposure to multiple forms of discrimination than their more privileged counterparts. The experience of multiple forms of discrimination is associated with worse mental and physical health above the effect of only one form and contributes to the relationship between multiple disadvantaged statuses and health. These findings suggest that past research may misspecify the discrimination-health relationship and fails to account for the disproportionate exposure to discrimination faced by multiply disadvantaged individuals.

In explaining underdevelopment, Classical Economics has offered many theories and models including but not limited to Rostow’s Stages of Growth Theory, Harrod-Domar Model, Solow’s Growth Model, Dependency Theory, Lewis Two Sector Model, Neo-colonial Dependence Model, False-Paradigm Model, and Dualistic-Development Thesis etc. This study analyzes the theories of development proposed in classical literature in the light of Islamic Economics and investigates whether policy response influenced by some of these theories had been effective or not in selected countries and regions. In light of recent developments in growth literature, the last section of the paper also analyzes whether Islamic economics principles have the capacity to ensure that determinants of growth suggested by ‘new growth theory’ will exist in an Islamic economy and together with these, do Islamic economic principles have other distinctive mechanisms and institutions that can help in the development process.
