I found his article very interesting and useful in its new perspective. It is obvious that the author follows Huss' and Balagangadhara's approach and his final argument is based on Wittgenstein. Also, we can understand his article as a polemic with a book: The Origins of Jewish Mysticism by Peter Schäfer.

Interestingly, the author mentioned in the article that a part of the material was already discussed at the international conference Rethinking Religion in India III. I followed for some time links of its participants and it seems to me there is a research group using Balagangadhara's approach from different countries and from various fields in Humanities. If you follow their links it is possible to find more books and articles on the study of comparative religion and most of them you can download for free (see more links in my About section and Profile). And all of them share a common ground. It is Balagangadhara's framework very well argued in his book: Heathen in His Blindness. Note, there are scholars who sharply disagree with him. The whole scientific discussion is very interesting and inspiring and leads to new directions in the study of mysticism and religion. Some of them you can find through Web of Science.

The subject of the paper, Plotinus’ theory of the One, is situated on the intersection of a systematic investigation... more The subject of the paper, Plotinus’ theory of the One, is situated on the intersection of a systematic investigation and a text analysis and interpretation belonging to the area of the history of philosophy. The motif to work on this issue was the absence of a systema- tic analysis of the specificity of Plotinus’ philosophical theory and its unique mode of expression. The aim of the study is the presentation, analysis and critical evaluation of the forms of expression, fundamental statements and consequences of Plotinus’ concept of the One. The structure of the text resulted from discussing the general character of Plotinus’ language (the first part), the explanation of terms „One“ (1.1) and „hypostasis“ (1.2) to and presentation and criticism of its own statements and philosophical consequences of the theory of the One (the second part).

The motif to work on the issue was the need of a systematic treatment of this problem, still missing in the writings of Slovak historians of philosophy. The intention of the paper is the presentation, analysis and critical interpretation of the remarkable origins of Plotinus’ theory. The paper deals further with the question of the sources of Plotinus’ theory of the One in Plato. The introductory general theoretical reflections on the origins of Plotinus’ theory (the first part of the paper) is followed by a detailed text analysis of the books 6 and 7 of Plato’s Republic (the second part) and by the analysis of the first and second hypotheses of the second part of the dialogue Parmenides (the third part of the paper).

Thus, Plotinus’ mysticism comprises those passages of the Enneads in which he describes different transcendent experiences or presents his interpretation of these. Upon these two elements, we believe, Plotinus structures a coherent doctrine about the relation between man and the higher degrees of reality closely dependant, as well, on his metaphysical theory.
In the present work we intend to provide an accurate account of Plotinus’ mystical doctrine for which we will also need to analyse the singularities of the different mystical discourses present in the Enneads and outline and discuss the main streams of interpretation that scholars have suggested for this subject.

Alcuni studiosi hanno sostenuto che il trattato «Contro gli gnostici» di Plotino debba essere letto in chiave non solo... more Alcuni studiosi hanno sostenuto che il trattato «Contro gli gnostici» di Plotino debba essere letto in chiave non solo antignostica ma anche anticristiana, e che pertanto Plotino debba essere annoverato tra gli esponenti della reazione ellenica al cristianesimo. L'articolo nella prima parte ripercorre le tappe salienti attraverso cui questa ipotesi si è fatta strada nella storiografia, mentre nella seconda parte avanza alcune obiezioni agli argomenti che sono stati addotti a suo sostegno. La conclusione dell'articolo è che non ci sono ragioni sufficienti per affermare che il trattato «Contro gli gnostici» abbia una destinazione anche anticristiana; ci sono anzi vari elementi che rendono inverosimile tale ipotesi.

L'articolo mostra che lo schema quadripartito dei gradi di virtù, molto diffuso nel tardo neoplatonismo e nel... more L'articolo mostra che lo schema quadripartito dei gradi di virtù, molto diffuso nel tardo neoplatonismo e nel Medioevo, ha origine nella «Sentenza» 32 di Porfirio (233/234-305 d.C.) e non nel trattato «Sulle virtù» di Plotino (205-270 d.C.), sul quale peraltro è basata la «Sentenza» di Porfirio. Plotino infatti non riconosce le virtù "esemplari" e "purificative", ma solo le virtù "politiche" e le virtù ad esse "superiori". L'articolo infine illustra la genesi esegetica e il significato filosofico della teoria plotiniana dei due gradi di virtù.
