These are games which were organized and/or presided over by priests (sacerdotes). It is unlikely that one will ever be able to determine what games exactly were on Pliny's mind since our sources are too selective and lacunose to draw up a reasonably complete list of "priests' games" celebrated in 107 or a little earlier. However, an examination of the terminology applied to the games in Pliny's Letters, and in contemporaneous works such as Tacitus' and Suetonius', shows that some previous attempts at finding a solution must be rejected. Such is the case of Jean Beaujeu's view that Pliny was alluding to the most recent celebration of the Capitolia in 106.
