La finalidad de este artículo es la reflexión filosófica acerca de los mecanismos de cambio que operan en la estructura de la moda, y cuál es la incidencia de la dimensión contextual en las categorías de lo Bello y lo Feo. A estos efectos, la ponencia discurre con el apoyo teórico de dos textos clásicos de la filosofía “El Pintor de la Vida Moderna” de Charles Baudelaire y “La estructura de las Revoluciones Científicas” de Thomas Kuhn.
The purpose of this paper is philosophical reflection on the mechanisms of change in the structure of fashion, and what is the impact of the contextual dimension in the categories of the Beauty and the Ugly. Because of this, the paper runs with the theoretical support of two classic texts of philosophy “The Painter of Modern Life” by Charles Baudelaire and “The Structure of Scientific Revolutions” by Thomas Kuhn.

Esta tese tem como problemática o design e as considerações teóricas que este fenómeno mereceu em Vilém Flusser, um destacado autor que associou a reflexão sobre cultura com a tecnologia, o design e a comunicação. Nos textos de Flusser, a abordagem ao problema do mundo cultural, mais especificamente dos objectos técnicos, da comunicação humana, das imagens técnicas e, a estes associado, do design, revela a função dialógica destes em constante confronto com a sua condição de objecto. O design, enquanto forma cultural de presença ubíqua na comunicação contemporânea assenta em objectos técnicos, assume características das imagens técnicas definidas por Flusser e, como tal, considera-se, depara-se ontologicamente com questões idênticas às levantadas por Flusser nos seus textos.

The present dissertation has as main problem, design and the theoretical concepts of Vilém Flusser on this phenomenon. Flusser, a distinguished author, connected the thougt on culture with design and communication. In his work, the approach to the cultural world problem - more specifically of the technical objects, human communication, technical images and the design associated to these – reveals their dialogic function, in permanent confrontation with their condition as objects. Design, being a cultural form ubiquitous in contemporary communication, resides in technical objects, assumes characteristics of the technical images defined by Flusser and, as such, in our view, faces ontological questions identical to the ones raised by Flusser in his texts.

We believe designers ought to be able to perform their activity in a “good way”, assuming that their actions transform the everyday life for better; however, endorsing a close analysis to some of the consequences of the design activity, we realize that the impact of the designed is, sometimes, a negative one.
Can we explain why the design activity doesn’t have a consistent ethical behaviour? To answer this question, we will discuss a meta-moral philosophy of design framework – in connection to philosophy of action and moral philosophy – discussing, in this paper, the: (1) the morality of Design, and, (2) moral actions of the designer. Determining if it is possible to account a pre-responsibility on the designer, on is actions, providing a reflection on the enkratic (mastery or continence on moral actions) and therefore akratic (incontinence in moral actions) behaviours. In this sense, we will not focus our study of akrasia in the objects, the consequents of action of the designer, but in the process, construction of intentions, and the
subsequent actions performed by the responsibility of the designer.

Neste texto parte-se de uma leitura da obra de Vilém Flusser, a fim de interrogar a acção mediadora do design de comunicação contemporâneo. Numa sociedade em que a informação desmaterializada, assente nas tecnologias de informação, ocupa um lugar primordial, e o design assume uma aparência ubíqua, vemos dificultada a evidência da sua mediação. As questões levantadas por Flusser que associam o design com a técnica e a comunicação, permitem desenvolver um conjunto de reflexões sobre o objecto deste artigo.
In this text, the starting point, towards an interrogation of the contemporary communication design’s mediating action, is Vilém Flusser’s work. In a society in which the dematerialized information, transmitted through information technologies, plays a main role and design becomes ubiquitous, is progressively harder to grasp its medi-ation. The issues raised by Flusser that associate design with technique and communication, as such, allow unfolding a set of reflections on the subject of this article.
