Touch in the skin's culture of the modern medicine: the birth of biosubjective care

But, at present, touch in medicine is circled in alternative and “smooth” medicine. Touch is an entered point for an analysis of social influence in medicine because “touch is our most social sense” (Tiffany field, Touch, MIT Press, 2001, p. 19).
Touch therapies are becoming increasingly popular but outside conventional medicine. Social asking of touch appears in modern medicine which do not know take care of it.
Through touch’s place in medicine, we can study actual paradigm, based on mechanism and instrumentalism, and also discover his needs of a holistic approach. Touch opens way of a subject medicine as a tale of skin. By discovering or integrating touch therapies, modern medicine can include the subject’s space. At the border of body, skin gives to us an access way of subject’s care. Finally, it is a theory of other that we can establish by touch: the other person is a touch relation and an affective relation.
Moreover, the alternatives medicine develop a new conception of therapeutic touch ; born in Europe, then exported in America in early 20e century, they return in Europe with a new generation
and a new conception of touch : the biosubjective touch.

A partire dalla trattazione delle Sententiae di Pietro Lombardo si sviluppò un progressivo approfondimento dei vari aspetti del sacramento battesimale che vide fra i principali teologi impegnati Stefano Langton, Guglielmo di Auxerre, Alessandro di Hales e Ugo di Saint-Cher. Le loro dottrine ebbero evidenti influenze sulle opere degli autori successivi come Bonaventura da Bagnoregio e Tommaso d’Aquino.

The sacrament of baptism is at the centre of a large theological debate between the middle of XIIth century and the middle of XIIIth century. Starting with the position assumed by Peter Lombard in his Sentences a progressive study of the various aspects of baptism is developed. The main theologians engaged in it were Stephen Langton, William of Auxerre, Alexander of Hales and Hugues of Saint-Cher. Their doctrines had an evident influence on the positions of the subsequent authors such as Bonaventure of Balneoregio and Thomas Aquinas.

In that case, if God is efficient cause and gives rise to teleology, this must have some existential significance for man. We can ask ourselves therefore whether the knowledge of metaphysics can offer some orientation also for ethics. Yet if this were true, the need would arise to deepen the question of how much the gods love men and what would the nature of their relationship be to natural justice. Given that man is born and lives thanks to the divinity, the conclusion is that two consequences follow: a response of religious thanksgiving is needed but also, that since the will of the divinity desires the good for man, the human search for happiness is the same as the fulfillment of the divine law. All this is explained, to a certain extent, in the context of the friendship between man and the divine.

There are a number of contemporary scientific problems that can benefit from good metaphysical analysis and... more There are a number of contemporary scientific problems that can benefit from good metaphysical analysis and philosophical clarification.  This paper examines one of these problems—explaining the nature of self-organized emergent behavior in dynamical physical systems.  While discussions of emergence have long been the province of metaphysicians, recent advances in network theory and complex systems theory have begun to suggest that there is both philosophical and metaphysical work to be done here, and that a rigorous, mathematically-grounded account of emergence might serve as the foundation upon which we can construct a tremendous number of other novel contributions to our understanding of the world. 

This paper explores the conceptual connection between this mathematically rigorous account of “strong emergence” (developed primarily by Yaneer Bar-Yam) and the still somewhat murky notion of self-organized systems.  I argue that a clear scientific understanding of emergence leads to a natural way of understanding the metaphysics of self-organization and (more generally) the difference between order and organization.  All three of these notions are central to the nascent field of complex systems theory, and getting a strong grasp on their conceptual relationships would represent not only a significant step toward developing a cohesive metaphysics of complex systems, but would also provide the theoretical tools necessary for continued philosophical and scientific work in that area. 

Given the sheer number (and diversity) of fields that stand to benefit from complexity-theoretic insights, this is work that urgently needs to be done.

Khojazadah has been regarded as one of the scholars who belong to the Fakh al-Dın al-Razi’s School in the Ottoman... more Khojazadah has been regarded as one of the scholars who belong to the Fakh al-Dın al-Razi’s School in the Ottoman thought. Althought he owed quite much to al-Razi in terms of terminology and theological writing style, particularly stressing God`s free-agency he did not maintain al-Razi`s "hesitant" stance in the issue of the eternity of the world. He got close to the Kalam`s position which asserts the world`s impeccable temporality and thus strove to eliminate philosophers` critics. Meanwhile, he severely criticized al-Ghazali in several places where the latter contradicted the philosophers, accusing him of misunderstanding and misjudging the aims of philosophers. It is quite meaningful that he criticized Ghazali for his view “eternal cannot be an effect”, because of which the latter announced that they are unbelievers. In my presentation, I will try to locate Khojazadah`s place in the above-mentioned problem in the light of his remarks on issues like God's attribute of will, infinite regression and the nature of contingency.
