Advanced approaches to the construction of software systems can present difficulties to learners. This is true for multi-agent systems (MAS) which exhibit concurrency, non-determinacy of structure and composition and sometimes emergent behavior characteristics. Additional barriers exist for learners because mainstream MAS technology is young and design methodologies are still evolving.
This paper considers the benefits and difficulties associated with teaching/learning agent technology and recommends an approach used by the authors. The paper examines Agent UML - a set of proposed extensions to UML to facilitate MAS design but suggests that simpler design tools are more appropriate for novice MAS programmers. A small suite of preferred tools are presented.

Indeed, in the quest to develop increasingly autonomous cognitive agent systems, desire has had a significant role. We argue, however, that insufficient attention has been given to analysis and clarification of desire as a complex concept. Accordingly, in this paper, we will draw on some key philosophical accounts of the nature of desire, including what distinguishes it from other mental and motivational states, in order to identify some key characteristics of desire as a complex concept. We will then draw on these in order to investigate the role, definition and adequacy of concepts of desire within applied theoretical models of agency and agent systems.

Recently a novel heuristic search algorithm, called Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), which is based on the law of gravity and mass interactions, has been proposed. Although GSA has high performance in solving various optimization problems, it has some time consuming computations for calculation of the total force on each mass which makes the speed of optimization low.
In this paper we introduce a new approach, which improves GSA's speed considerably. Our approach is based on the multi-agent systems where multiple agents are the mechanism used to express the parallelism. In multi-agent based GSA, complex problems are decomposed into smaller and simpler components that are handled by different agents in the system. Our
experimental results show our multi-agent based GSA approach provides a high performance and high speed optimization methodology that can help scientists in a variety of science and engineering computations.

Working towards this ideal, we describe the methodology we are using to model dynamic crowd scenarios and an exemplar based on it. Video corpus is consulted for informing the modelling process and perception based evaluations are conducted on the resultant scenarios with the goal of improving the visual plausibility of the crowd, rather than correctness of simulation. Using this methodology, the exemplar focuses on modelling small groups of pedestrians. While it is generally assumed that the addition of groups can improve the plausibility of crowd scenarios, little is known about how humans perceive the results. We shed light on these issues, demonstrating the practical application of the methodology in a real-time crowd animation system.

Many recent researches concentrate on providing a propagation model and early warning. In fact, the defense against worms in a realistic environment is an open problem. In this work, we present WSRMAS (worm spreading_reduction multi_agent system) as a system that includes a worm defense mechanism to considerably reduce the rate at which hosts are infected. As WSRMAS needs a suitable infra-structure, its architecture was elaborated and an agent platform was designed and implemented to support WSRMAS functions. The proposed system was provided once with a centralized plan and second with a decentralized (distributed) plan. In both cases the system performance was evaluated. Also different communication capabilities using Knowledge Query Manipulation Language (KQML) were exploited to improve WSRMAS performance. The ratio between worm and anti-worm spreading was studied to investigate its influence on the defense efficiency. Taking into account that some machines may not deploy WSRMAS, consequently, the effectiveness of WSRMAS under different operational conditions has been studied.
Transaction Agent Modelling: From Experts to Concepts to Multi-Agent Systems

Using the Transaction Agent Model (TrAM) approach we examine the use of Conceptual Graphs to model an extension to an existing MAS in the community healthcare domain, whereby the existing agent capabilities are augmented with a robust set of behaviours that provide emergency healthcare management. We illustrate how TrAM serves to enrichen the requirements gathering process, whilst also supporting the definition and realisation of quantitative measures for the management of qualitative transactions.

The goal of this research was to improve the behavior of the goalkeeper, raising the number of catches and decreasing the number of goals, improving its positioning to catch the ball. To validate the research, 30 matches were simulated against some of the best teams of the world that participate of the RoboCup. The achieved results are presented, the conclusions are discussed and future works are suggested.

This paper presents the initial research results of Bahia Robotics
Team. This is a new research group created to investigate the application of artificial intelligence methods in the standard problem of robotics soccer.
In this work, fuzzy controllers are used to improve some abilities of the players. In the case of the attackers, the kick and the positioning ability were improved. The midfielders had their positioning and passing ability improved. The goalkeeper and the defenders had their positioning ability improved. The generated Bahia2D soccer team was tested in matches against some victorious teams from Robocup Brazil Open 2006 and from previous editions of the Robocup World Competition. The positive results achieved and the ongoing works to improve the current limitations are also presented.
