I use McGann's notion of "bibliographical codes" to examine how it is the material, physical textuality of both periodicals that serves to construct the disctinct type of interdisciplinary modernism that runs through their pages.

From March 7 to September 30, 2010, the old church of St. John near the convent of St. Mary “in Valle” is hosting the exhibition “The Soul and the World. Sacred art from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century”. Among many other contributions, the catalog offers the short essay “Replicas, copies, sketches and ‘modelletti’: notes on the sidelines of an exhibition”: some of the exhibited artworks (mostly unpublished and from private collections) are treated in it, in order to make the reader reflect on the topic of authenticity of artistic products and on the issue – even more complex – of their reproducibility, including preparatory and original (one or more ...) specimens, sketches and small models, replicas and copies, seriation and forgery.

A minyan is the required quorum of ten Jewish adults necessary to perform various Jewish obligations, most commonly that of public prayer. This gathering of ten was said to create a divine presence. Technically a minyan is an all-male enclave; however, according to many non-Orthodox streams of Judaism it is permissible to embrace adult females in the count. The ‘Ten Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century’ exhibition by Andy Warhol (1928–87), one of the preeminent figures in American Pop art of the late 20th century, does this very thing metaphorically. The portraits include three women: celebrated French actress Sarah Bernhardt (1844–1923); Israel’s fourth Prime Minister and one of the founders of the State of Israel, Golda Meir (1898–1978); and avant-garde American writer, poet and playwright Gertrude Stein (1874–1946).
This is a review of the exhibition at the Coach House at Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire, in late 2011.

In 2007 I interviewed Michael Liversidge on his identification of two ‘lost’ Fra Angelico paintings. These panels had been missing from the San Marco altarpiece (c.1438–40) since the Napoleonic occupation of Florence at the end of the 18th century. This interview was published in The Art Book in June 2007 and I felt fortunate and exhilarated to have met an art historian who was so intimately connected with a unique event. Then in December 2010 David Glasser, co-chairman of Ben Uri, London Jewish Museum of Art, stumbled upon an unknown sketch by Marc Chagall entitled Apocalypse in Lilac: Capriccio in the catalogue of leading French auction house Tajan and purchased it for Ben Uri. Again, I was the person who interviewed him about this. When a third such opportunity occurred I began to feel as if I were a magnet for people connected with recovering art works. This article is the story of that third event.

In the old church of St. John of the nunnery of St. Mary “in Valle” (Cividale del Friuli, Udine, Italy) from May 14 to October 2 2011 is hosting the art exhibition “József Rippl-Rónai. An Hungarian artist in the fin de siècle Europe”. Its catalog offers a lot of interesting contributions, such as the essay “Searching his own identity”: the author presents some of the exhibited artworks (mainly from private collections and unpublished) in order to highlight the similarities and the differences in the career paths and in the lives of some versatile “masters of color” working in Central Europe in nineteenth and twentieth century.
