In this paper we examine the history, production, and use – practical and rhetorical – of maps created by the United... more In this paper we examine the history, production, and use – practical and rhetorical – of maps created by the United States government during World War II as related to the development and execution of aerial bombing policies against Japan. Drawing from a range of maps and primary documents culled from libraries and archives in the United States, we argue that maps provide an important, and hitherto neglected, means through which to trace the exploration and eventual embrace of the incendiary bombing of Japan’s cities. In particular, our aim is to show how maps, along with the men who made and used them, played a central role in the planning and prosecution of air raids on urban Japan. We also address the mobilization of American geographers into the war effort, the re-configuration of America’s spatial intelligence community during World War II, and the ways in which maps were constructed in the context of total war.

Maiella Brigade was a very strange partisan unit in the Italy Campaign of 1944-1945 because recruited mostly in Abruzzo region the partisan unit dressed military uniform and used an Italian flag patch to fight together with Polish and Anglo-American units along the Italian front from Abruzzo till the end of operations in april-may 1945. The essay is based on a document presented by the Polish contingent to the Italian Army to represent what the Brigade did fighting together with Anders personnel.

The essay is based on two parts: the first one is comment and the second one is the transcription of the first penal... more The essay is based on two parts: the first one is comment and the second one is the transcription of the first penal code in the Sardinian Kingdom Navy based on a copy of the code found in an Italian Archive.
The author tried to compare the naval penal and discipline code with the new one approved after the liberal revolution held in Piedmont. The Editto Penale Militare of 1717 was used for more the one century till 1826. So in the article there are some comparative suggestions based on the two regulations.

The experience ended in 1907 when the Prime Minister Giolitti decided to support a more effective idea of training for future Royal Carabinieri officers.
