The rapidly increasing amount of video collections, especially on the web, motivated the need for intelligent automated annotation tools for searching, rating, indexing and retrieval purposes. These videos collections contain all types of manually annotated videos. As this annotation is usually incomplete and uncertain and contains misspelling words, search using some keywords almost do retrieve only a portion of videos which actually contains the desired meaning. Hence, this annotation needs filtering, expanding and validating for better indexing and retrieval.
In this paper, we present a novel framework for video annotation enhancement, based on merging two widely known commonsense knowledgebases, namely WordNet and ConceptNet. In addition to that, a comparison between these knowledgebases in video annotation domain is presented.
Experiments were performed on random wide-domain video clips, from the \emph{vimeo.com} website. Results show that searching for a video over enhanced tags, based on our proposed framework, outperforms searching using the original tags. In addition to that, the annotation enhanced by our framework outperforms both those enhanced by WordNet and ConceptNet individually, in terms of tags enrichment ability, concept diversity and most importantly retrieval performance.

This article revises the characteristics and evolution of the different systems of reproduction of scientific images and the historical impact it has had in the development of the investigation and the Knowledge. For it has carried out a critical study into the technologies that underlie the systems and scientific instrumentation which is dedicated to the elaboration of images with the objective to make clear their mechanisms and contingent limitations for representing Nature with images. The text concludes that scientific images can only be defined, historically and at the present time, as discursive artifacts in hopeless relation to linked devices, to the instruments with which they have been generated.

Near-IR Spectral Imaging of Semiconductor Absorption Sites in Integrated Circuits

This method has allowed us to improve the contrast of the acquired images by revealing structures that have a different optical absorption from neighboring sites. A false color composite image from those acquired at different wavelengths is generated from which the response of each semiconductor structure can be deduced. With the aid of the spectral maps, nonuniform absorption was also observed in a semiconductor structure located near an electrical overstress defect. This method may prove important in failure analysis of ICs by uncovering areas exhibiting anomalous absorption, which could improve localization of defective edifices in the semiconductor parts of the microchip.

Dynamic contrast enhancement in widefield microscopy using projector-generated illumination patterns
published in "New Journal of Physics", 2007

The projector functions as both light source and mask generator implemented by creating slideshows of the filters projected along the illumination planes of the microscope. The projected optical masks spatially modulate the distribution of the incident light to selectively enhance structures within the sample according to spatial frequency thereby increasing the image contrast of translucent biological specimens. Any amplitude filter can be customized and dynamically controlled so that switching from one imaging modality to another involves a simple slide transition and can be executed at a keystroke with no physical filters and no moving optical parts. The method yields an image contrast of 89–96% comparable with standard enhancement techniques. The polarization properties of the projector are then utilized to discriminate birefringent and non-birefringent sites on the sample using single-shot, simultaneous polarization and optical-staining microscopy. In addition to dynamic pattern generation and polarization, the projector also provides high illumination power and spectral excitation selectivity through its red-green-blue (RGB) channels. We exploit this last property to explore the feasibility of using video projectors to selectively excite stained samples and perform fluorescence imaging in tandem with reflectance and polarization reflectance microscopy.
