Working from the perspective that assessment is a socially situated practice informed by, and mediated through, the socio-political context within which it occurs, this research takes the form of an inquiry that employs qualitative approaches to data collection using interviews and focus groups. The aim of the study was to elicit students' and lecturers' views concerning the assessment of process (also known as contribution), conceptions of fairness and the management of free-loading students. The tensions that reside in group work projects where students are marked for process as well as product are explored. The analysis shows that students navigate complex trajectories where they collaborate and fight for their marks. Reflective journals are often used as a tool to assess process in group work projects. This analysis challenges the popular view that reflective journals offer an unproblematic representation of process. Whilst this study is situated within the performing arts, the findings are relevant to any group work project where lecturers seek to design assessment approaches that disentangle group and individual contribution.
The impact of identification on adherence to group norms in team sports: Who Is going the extra mile?

The core assumption of the NCDM is that strongly identified group members adhere to group norms less (i.e., deviate more) when these norms are potentially harmful for the team. We accompanied a football team over the course of a season (22 time points) and assessed players’ (n =11) identification with their team, adherence as the overlap between individual and team goals, and disengagement as willingness to leave the team. Results showed that weakly identified players adhered to, but strongly identified players deviated from, unambitious—thus potentially harmful—team goals. Moreover, deviance elicited disengagement among weakly but not among strongly identified players. Our findings demonstrate the relevance of the NCMD in sports teams. Implications are discussed with respect to the beneficial aspects of deviance for teams.
Spinner dolphins in a remote Hawaiian atoll: social grouping and population structure

In Hawaii, they occur throughout the archipelago. We applied photo identification mark recapture techniques to study the population structure of spinner dolphins associated with remote Midway Atoll, far-western Hawaii. At Midway, spinner dolphins live in stable bisexually bonded societies of long-term associates, with strong geographic fidelity, no obvious fission-fusion, and limited contacts with other populations. Their large cohesive groups change little over time and are behaviorally/socially discrete from other spinner dolphin groups. This social pattern differs considerably from the fluid fission-fusion model proposed previously for spinner dolphins associated with a large island habitat in the main Hawaiian Archipelago. These differences correspond to geographic separation and habitat variation. While in the main islands there are several daytime resting places available at each island habitat; in far-western Hawaii, areas of suitable habitat are limited and separated by large stretches of open pelagic waters with potentially high risk of shark predation. We hypothesize that with deepwater food resources in close proximity and other atolls relatively far away for easy (day-to-day) access, it is energetically more beneficial in the remote Hawaiian atolls to remain ‘‘at home’’ than to travel to other atolls, so there is stability instead of variability; there is no fission-fusion effect. Thus, the geographic isolation and small size of remote atolls trigger a process in which the fluidity of the fission-fusion spinner dolphin society is replaced with long-term group fidelity and social stability.

The Sick Building Syndrome: A Psychoanalytic Perspective

Traditionally the sick building syndrome has been the domain of physical scientists, who have localized their investigations to the physical entities of the workplace. However, in the two decades this phenomena has been studied little evidence has contributed to the belief that physical causes can be isolated. Recent studies are suggesting that we begin to investigate the psychological basis of the disorder. This paper investigates the sick building disease from a psychoanalytic perspective, that is, the psychodynamic issues in the workplace that underlie the abberation, factors in the workplace that increase susceptibility, and the unconscious functions the syndrome plays in the life of employees.

Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was used to examine 15 interviews from eight women with MBC. The interviewees felt that their experiences were very much different from those of women with primary breast cancer (BC), because of their different prognoses. In mixed-stage groups, the interviewees described feeling silenced, marginalised and helpless. They did not receive support in these groups because survivors of primary BC are often afraid to face the idea of metastasis. In stage-specific MBC groups, on the other hand, women were able to talk openly and were understood by others with whom they identified. They became more informed about issues related to their illness. Seeing others living well despite MBC made them feel more hopeful. Although there are some disadvantages of participating in stage-specific groups, the findings suggest that, overall, stage-specific groups are more helpful to women with MBC than mixed-stage groups. These findings have implications for the provision of group support for this population.

This phenomenon has grown in momentum with the appearance of popular websites such as FaceBook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter. However, apart from personal use, social networks have become an important constituent in the business field. This research introduces the evolution of social networking in relation to organizational development. Furthermore, it investigates multiple aspects and linkages between social networking and organizational development. This is in terms of creating a collaborative and a knowledge sharing social networks to produce more productive organization.

Group Effectiveness - Purpose of Group Facilitation

The definition of effectiveness has remained and continues to remain elusive. One of the challenges that is repeatedly stated in the research on group effectiveness is the multitude of factors that affect it, and the interplay between them. This makes the study of group effectiveness very difficult. However, since groups are our basic unit of work in any organization, it is critical that we understand the concept and the application of group effectiveness, however elusive or difficult it might be. Towards that end, this paper explores the various studies in the area of group effectiveness from 1960 till date, in the context in which they were conducted – both lab and real time settings. Each of the theory/model is explored with the background of the research and the findings clearly mentioned along with the critique of the study, which details the positives and the limitations of the study. Finally, I have concluded with a summary of the way the group effectiveness studies have transitioned from 1960s till date and where we need to go from here. In conclusion, I have raised some of the questions that have to be taken up to explore the role of the facilitator as an enhancer of group effectiveness.

The present study was based on video recordings of ‘snack time’ at a psychoanalytically-informed toddler group. The qualitative methodology employed involved line-by-line thematic extraction based on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Extracts of observations are presented with accompanying explanatory text. The findings suggest that snack time and eating more generally: a) contains a strong affective aspect; b) is a time where toddler-parent battles over separation-individuation are played out; c) is a time of mutual observation and learning for both toddlers and parents.These extracts are discussed in relation to affect regulation and psychopathology. Additionally, the ways in which group leaders intervene therapeutically at snack time is are described, and a broader analysis of the affective stages of eating is put forward.

- la atención a las supervivientes en servicios abiertos, casas de acogida y servicios de inserción sociolaboral;
- dos tipos de atención a hijos e hijas de la violencia y a sus madres;
- reeducación a hombres que ejercen violencia
- y finalmente, también a madres violentadas por sus hijos y mujeres abusadas sexualmente.
En el 1r capítulo "Intervención grupal y violencia sexista: marco conceptual" presento:
- un cuestionario de evaluación de los niveles de desarrollo grupal -NDG- para grupos naturales e instrumentales y la teoria grupal que le fundamenta;
- los beneficios de los grupos instrumentales y otros instrumentos para la evaluación de la intervención grupal;
- criterios teóricos para la aplicación de los grupos;
- se explican tales procesos y se añaden también aquellos que son especificamente relativos a la dinámica grupal;
-se presenta una plantilla de observación específica para grupos de apoyo (POGAS).
Los procesos se ilustran con fragmentos de sesiones grupales resultado de la investigación-acción de un año y medio con un grupo de apoyo a mujeres en situación de violencia de pareja
