This may be surprising, if one compares the situation in the 1960s and 1970s, where Sociology in Germany was a leading science, analyzing the problems and contradictions of German society and was important for the academic and intellectual socialization of a generation of young students and scholars. The aim of this article is to give a brief overview about contemporary German sociology, describe the current situation of Sociology in Germany and to give an answer for its actual problems and lost of influence.

Hence as sub-discipline migration sociology was a research area which received little attention. Only when the interest of German society on migration rose, migration sociology in Germany became important. The result was a explosion of academic publications on migrations and the problems of migrants. The aim of this article is to give a concise and critical overview about German migration sociology. It will draw its basic characteristics and the methodological and interpretative problems Migration sociology must deal with. By neglecting the fact that the contend of German migration sociology is shaped by means of public demand and discussion, the researchers with non migration background are faced with a lack of self reflexivity, which biased their results and gives a wrong picture of migration and migrants.
An Analysis of the Headscarf Issue in Feminist Debates in Germany

In our study, which was conducted between 2010 and 2012 and mainly took place in the academic context of Germany and South Korea, we found out that the students’ perception of time management is strongly related to their culture. When edu-cation takes place in cross-cultural settings, which related to Internet-based education in future will be the stan-dard-setting, this particular difference can lead to major frustration as well for the learners as also for the educa-tors. Particularly in the e-Learning scenario, where learners rarely communicate upcoming conflicts, and where ongoing motivation needs to be understood as a crucial condition to succeed (Richter & Adelsberger, 2011a, p.1600), this issue needs to be targeted. In this paper, after introducing the relevant theoretical background, we first present our study setting and finally discuss the results.

In order to take design-oriented decisions on culture-specific research questions, such characteristic values, particularly if already determined for many countries, would allow a massive reduction of effort. However, we were unsure if the contexts of academic and professional education allowed the adoption of such values without loosing the characteristic information, which are crucial for designing context-sensitive e-Learning contents. In both educational scenarios we investigated the subcultures ‘faculty’, ‘university’, ‘enterprise’, and ‘nation’. In this paper, we exemplarily discuss our study’s results regarding one selected topic from our questionnaire, i. e. the ‘role of the lecturer’. Actually, we found major differences between the investigated scenarios. Thus, we came to the conclusion that in our context, adapting, e. g. Hofstede’s national values, would not lead to a learning design that takes the context-specific cultural differences into consideration.

Combining different sources of primary and secondary data, this article investigates five strategies of crisis management (‘‘the five Cs’’): media companies may react to the current changes by cutting down costs and creating new products. They may further try to influence the general framework conditions by complaining about their plight in public (discursive strategy), taking competitors to court (legal strategy) and wooing politicians through lobbying and campaigning (political strategy). The article concludes that the sustainable provision of journalistic value benefits the most from creative, productive strategies.

The early Neolithic in northern Central Europe ought to be the theatre in which
incoming farmersmeet local hunter-gatherers, with greater or lesser impact. By way of contrast, the authors use isotope analysis in a cemetery beside the Danube to describe a peaceful, well-integrated community with a common diet and largely indigenous inhabitants. Men and women may have had different mobility strategies, but the isotopes did not signal special origins or diverse foodproducing roles.Other explanations attend the variations in the burial rites of individuals and their distribution into cemetery plots.

Building a more attractive Europe: the Blue Card experience

In this respect, this paper will mainly analyse to what extent the implementation of the Blue Card Directive makes EU attractive for highly qualified migrants. Considering the challenges the EU faces in attracting highly skilled professionals to its member states, this essay will also estimate whether the introduction of the Blue Card could possibly solve the demographic problems resulting from the ageing population. Thereupon, the paper will assess the effects that the Blue Card directive could have on national labour markets. Taking into account the distinctive European demographics, labour markets or the particular domestic labour capacity, Germany and Spain will be considered as case studies. Based on the results of this analysis, this study will then determine whether the Blue Card is indeed a response to the EU prospective.
