Average sales income rose from 4,250,000 to 4,307,000 złotys during the study period, while land area contracted by an average of 5.4%. The average value of fixed assets rose from 4,569,000 to 4,826,000 zł., while average remuneration costs were respectively 1,447,000 and 1,559,000 zł. Energy and material costs also rose. Efficiency indices dropped somewhat from 1996 to 1997, 15 establishments being rated as efficient in the first year and 13 in the next. Economy of scale enabled average reduction of costs of 2.6% in 1996 and 4.1% in 1997. In general it was found that there was potential for raising efficiency through optimal outlay combinations. This applied particularly to land area and the value of fixed assets, and to a lesser but still important degree to costs. This type of analysis is recommended for use in the development strategy of the State Agency administering stud farms as well as within the enterprises themselves.

This work studies the performance of hybrid CM systems by means of data envelopment analysis (DEA). Since DEA allows for simultaneous analysis of multiple inputs and outputs of a system, it provides for a comprehensive investigation of CM performance under a wide variety of experimental conditions. For the purpose of measuring system efficiency, the number of machines and the degree of set up reduction are used as inputs, and flow time, work-in-progress (WIP) inventory and job tardiness are used as outputs. Results indicate that the hybrid systems in the study perform best at a low to intermediate degree of cellularization

One of the principal problems in DEA is to assess the Decision Making Units (DMUs) relative efficiencies. This survey shows how Multiple Criteria Decision Aid methods have been used, in alternative way, to assess these relative efficiencies including preference structure of stakeholders by value judgements. The value judgements can bring either DEA weights restrictions or the identification of different targets for each DMU. For the other hand, some decision making problematiques have been dealt with Data Envelopment Analysis structure, specifically for the cases of alternatives selection and alternatives ranking.

The economy in Poland has changed tremendously in recent years. Agricultural enterprises
can defend their market share only if they are able to adjust quickly and efficiently to new
circumstances. The most effective strategy to cope with changing operating conditions is a
strategy of permanent development of human resources. This strategy must embrace a
constant improvement of professional entrepreneurial skills and of management structures
within organizations. Only such a strategy will allow businesses to hold on to or to increase
their market standing despite strong competition. It will also allow them to meet, for instance,
the newly introduced standardisation procedures for goods produced and supplied. This
challenge holds especially true for agricultural enterprises that operate in highly competitive
markets; markets which are currently characterised by a permanent surplus of supply over
demand and a great number of businesses, mainly of small or medium size. Demand in the
agricultural market is exerted by millions of consumers, all of different consumption habits
with idiosyncratic consumption preferences.
Agricultural producers as a group are extremely sensitive to any kind of change in their
environment. This is especially true in the current transition period when a worsening of
economic conditions can be observed: an economic downturn caused by the price of inputs
increasing at a faster rate than agricultural product prices and an ineffective agricultural
policy.
One of the agricultural production factors which allows for quick adjustment to change and
which can thus be used to improve one’s market position is the human factor. It is a wellknown
fact that a good level of professional skills in combination with ongoing means of
furthering and updating professional qualifications of workers can help to facilitate coping
with market challenges.

The article presents the results of measuring the technical effi ciency of agriculture in Poland using two alternative methods of group analysis of the border (frontier analysis): method SFA (Stochastic Frontier Analysis) and DEA method (Data Envelopment Analysis). The main objective of this study was to determine what changes in the effi ciency of agricultural activity took place after the Polish accession to the European Union. For this purpose, there were compared the effectiveness of the years 2005 and 2008. The results show that, depending on the
econometric model may show the effectiveness of changes either increasing or decreasing trend in the case of the same province.

Effectiveness of the Universal Pension Fund Societies which are managers of the Open Pension Funds are usually evaluated by comparing the
different types of financial and economic indicators; comparing the value
of the investment portfolio or by changing the value of the units. These
comparisons are mostly incomplete and also there are no multi-dimensional
comparisons. The article attempt to check the effectiveness of the Universal
Pension Fund Societies using two alternative methods of frontier analysis: the
parametric Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) and nonparametric Data
Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Two alternative models were used for each of
the methods. Comparison of the effectiveness of Universal Pension Fund
Societies from both, the customer's and the company's perspective were also
done in the article. The research have shown that there are differences in the
effectiveness of the Universal Pension Fund Societies based on value
of portfolio as well as the perspective used in the measurement.

Due to an increasing amount of public resources dedicated to health care systems it’s important to measure the efficiency of hospitals. Systematically analyzing hospital systems is one important way to discover and improve inefficiencies.
The purpose of this paper is to propose a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) - Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based model to measure and evaluate the efficiency scores of hospitals. DEA is straight forward but requires time, knowledge and more process time than ANN. By combining these two methods, it’s possible to lessen the shortcomings of DEA.
In the proposed model, DEA classifies each hospital as either efficient or inefficient. Input and output variables of DEA are used for the inputs whereas efficiency scores of the hospitals are defined as the outputs of the ANN system. After the system is trained, the ANN model is applied to the test data to classify each hospital into efficient or inefficient.
The results are then compared with each other and Discriminant Analysis (DA) is used to compare with ANN. Results show that, a well-trained ANN performs good classification, and even gives better solutions than DA. Also ANN shows the advantage of using less CPU time and computer resources than the DEA, especially in large data sets.

The first analysis was carried out using data which were collected from surveys amongst the
owners of 36 privately owned farms and the managers of 14 limited partnerships. The data
cover the period between 1994 and 1997.
The incentive to conduct research on large farms in the Gorzów Voivodeship using the Data
Envelopment Analysis method (DEA) lay in the outcome of various earlier studies on the
financial standing of limited partnerships leasing real estate from APA in the Gorzów
Voivodeship in 1996 and 1997. Apart from general adjustment processes, these inquiries
proved that, in 1997, the economic condition of the farms analysed was worse when compared
to the situation in 1996; the following ratios worsened: the financial support ratio, the liquidity
ratio, the turnover ratio, the profitability ratio and the cost level ratio (see Świtłyk, 1998,
1999).
These results determined the focus of our research, namely input efficiency in particular
limited partnerships. The base of our calculations was a research model which consisted of
efficiency measures focusing on firms’ inputs The analysis was carried out on a sample of 90
firms in the years between 1995 and 1997 (30 firms every year). Other data material was
collected from national statistical office reports on incomes, costs and financial results (F-O1)
and statistics about land usage, crop area and yields (R-O5).
In the next section we briefly discuss privatisation in agriculture. Sections 3 and 4 present
results from our survey. Section 5 concludes.

This paper focuses on extending the analysis of an efficiency and productivity study on a cellular manufacturing system (CMS) as first introduced by Shafer and Bradford. Shafer and Bradford's initial study introduced a methodology that utilized simulation and data envelopment analysis (DEA) for a multiple performance measure analysis of a CMS. This paper presents an extension to their methodology by incorporating cross-efficiency measures and cluster analysis. One important contribution of this research is in identifying “overall” efficient and “false positive” layouts that are of high managerial significance, Another contribution is in selecting more appropriate targets for poorly performing layouts to use as a benchmark. An interesting managerial insight that emerged from this study is that, in general, cellular layouts with six cells have outperformed hybrid layouts and other cellular layouts. Also, this study concludes that “overall” efficient layouts must be considered by manufacturing engineers and managers in the design of a CMS. Last, the practical problems associated with the improvement of the “false positive” layouts are addressed
Using DEA and Malmquist Index to Compare Hospital Productivity Changes in Antalya

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is based on comparing relative performance of decision units with multiple inputs and outputs. Efficiency analysis consists only one year and doesn’t give any information about the change in time. If panel data for the decision units is available the change in the Total Factor Productivity (TFP) can be examined.
In this paper, the development of efficiency in Antalya region hospitals from 2001 to 2006 is analyzed by using Malmquist index. Two different input-oriented models are applied; first to a set of 16 public hospitals and then for comparing the types of hospitals a set of 22 hospitals, including both public and private hospitals. 4 outputs and 3 inputs are used.
This study gives information about the changes of efficiency during the years and the type of inefficiencies. The relative efficiency of public and private hospitals has been reviewed in this paper. Changes in efficiency and changes in technology are also analyzed.

The evaluation of environmentally conscious manufacturing programs is similar to many strategic initiatives and their justification methodologies. This similarity arises from the fact that there are multiple factors that need to be considered, many of which have long-term and broad implications for an organization. The types of programs that could be evaluated range from the appropriate selection of product designs and materials to major disassembly programs that may be implemented in parallel with standard assembly programs. The methodology will involve the synthesis of the analytical network
process (ANP) and data envelopment analysis (DEA). We consider some of the more recent modeling innovations in each of these areas to help us address a critical and important decision that many managers and organizations are beginning to face. An illustrative example provides some insights into the application of this methodology. Additional issues and research questions within are also identified.
