Although research on public confidence in the police is rapidly growing in the U.S., progress is comparatively slow in the U.K. leaving researchers and policymakers to rely heavily on the U.S. literature base in devising policy. Yet, despite surface similarities, potentially important differences remain, making direct theory and policy transfer between these and other countries questionable. The current study aims to assess the generalizability and integrate theoretical perspectives from both countries (e.g. Signal Crimes and Negotiated Order), using British Crime Survey (BCS) data from the 2001/2 through 2007/8 sweeps along with a sophisticated analytical strategy to test the derived expectations. The results reveal an intriguing combination of similarities and differences that seem largely to be explained by national context. The risks of theory, research and policy transfer from the U.S. to the U.K are highlighted.

The modern model of penal control of crime and criminal it constitutes intermixture of the systems that were applied occasionally.
Besides, it is characterized by its internationalisation, which begins –traditionally henceforth– from the USA and is scattered in the entire
world. The prisons, internationally, present common characteristics traits as they are: the continuous increase of their population,
the“overpopulation“, the large number of foreigners, pre-judicial people and large majority of men condemned for laws about narcotics,
etc. According to the last record of World Prison Population List, what is based on elements that were available up to in October 2006,
more from 9,25 millions persons are jailed worldwide and most as prejudged despite as condemning. In our country, as in other countries
of Western world, its correctional population increased iniquitous the last fifteen years. In the study that follows we will present tendencies
of incarceration the last decades in Greece compared to other countries and the problems that result from the squalid conditions of
imprisonment and violation of fundamental human rights of inmates.

Durkheim outlines how workforces become increasingly specialised as society expands, resulting not only in mutual dependence but also in strong social and cultural distinctions between different professional specialisations. Modern studies of crime prevention exemplify this phenomenon. Crime scientists, criminologists and criminal justice practitioners frequently disagree over the differences and utility of their respective disciplines, almost to the point of neglecting their common goal of crime prevention. This article outlines the important distinctions between these three disciplines and seeks to demonstrate how they might work together to yield more effective crime prevention than any one of them accomplishes alone

Terraced housing is particularly vulnerable to burglary where the offender gains access from the rear of the premises. ‘Alley-gating’ attempts to prevent this by fitting robust gates across alleyway access points and is currently used in Oldham, North West England. This study evaluates its effectiveness at preventing burglary via statistical and geographic information system (GIS) analysis of crime data from alley-gate treatment sites in Oldham. Focus group data also identify secondary effects beyond crime reduction not apparent from the quantitative analyses. We argue that clearer understanding of the contextual dynamics specific to the gated area, together with careful analytical work and use of computerized crime mapping programmes, can inform strategic decision-making and further reduce victimization.

Methods of human trafficking for sexual exploitation and victims of trafficking (city of Isparta case)
As a transnational type of crime, human trafficking is a widespread method used for illegal profiteering in Turkey and in the world. Human trafficking is prohibited in international conventions as well as in Turkish Penal Code of 5237. Human trafficking has traditionally been associated with sexual exploitation. Traffickers profit large amounts of money, while victims are forced into sexual slavery through physical and psychological abuse. This paper is based on the information gathered during operations against human trafficking by Crime Investigation Unit of Isparta Police Department between 2007 and 2008. We interviewed fourteen Georgian and Azerbaijani women who were identified as victims of trafficking. The interview addressed the social and economical profiles of victims and methods of trafficking. The legal and technical handicaps in combating human trafficking were explained, and some suggestions were drawn.
Keywords: Human trafficking, human trafficking for sexual exploitation, victims of human trafficking, methods of human trafficking.

This short piece aims to assess the kind of data collected by
Crime Scene Examiners (CSEs), and to discuss whether this
collection constitutes a scientific process. It also seeks to
examine the balance of roles performed by the CSE, between
data gatherer and investigator. The piece also aims to conclude
on whether a clearer understanding of the structure of data
collected by CSEs might be of some practical use in developing
a greater understanding of the architecture of knowledge that
forensic science as a whole relies upon.
