We examined a public trial registry to determine how funding source shapes trial design among trials involving antihyperlipidemics. We used an automated process to identify and analyze 809 trials from a set of 72,564. Three networks representing industry-, collaboratively, and non-industry-funded trials were constructed. Each network comprised 18 drugs as nodes connected according to the number of comparisons made between them. The results indicated that industry-funded trials were more likely to compare across drugs and examine dyslipidemia as a condition, and less likely to register safety outcomes. The source of funding for clinical trials had a measurable effect on trial design, which helps quantify differences in research agendas. Improved monitoring of current clinical trials may be used to more closely align research agendas to clinical needs.

There are not many formats or forums at this point that address Internet addiction, and there is even some debate over whether internet addiction is a true addiction. In my clinical experience and given definitions of addiction, "I would place internet as
being a very highly addictive medium."........
...... It provides a strong “hook” to those who are looking for a form of escapism. That being said, it is legal, cost effective, accessible, and provides instant gratification. It can, however, have a deleterious impact on the patient’s quality and quantity of life, with psychosocial retardation, financial challenges, and relationship challenges.
Much like patients with food or shopping addictions, there is the challenge that it cannot be easily extricated from daily life, especially in western and first/second world countries. Standard strategies that include removal of the offending agent will not work with internet addictions as there is exposure in insidious ways.......

Researchers require many years of advanced education to become experts in subjects so mind-bogglingly specific that they are met with polite stares and nods when discussed at dinner parties. It is unsurprising, then, that these scientists require specialized tools, specialized software, and even specialized business functions to complete their work. What is surprising is that in addition to designing the specifications for these things, they too often attempt to craft the tools, software, or functions themselves.
Interpenetrating polymeric network hydrogel for stomach-specific drug delivery of clarithromycin: Preparation and evaluation
by Ram C Dhakar
Dhakar Ramchand1, Gupta Anish Kumar, Siddiqui Abdul Wadood, Maurya Sheo Datta1,
The aim of this study was to develop a controlled release system targeting antibiotic delivery to the stomach. The
hydrogels were synthesized by using chitosan, poly (acrylic acid) and poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) polymers crosslinked
with glutaraldehyde and N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide. Interpenetrating polymeric network (IPN) hydrogels were prepared
by varying the concentration of crosslinking agent (glutaraldehyde). The amount of chitosan, poly (acrylic acid), poly
(vinyl pyrrolidone) and N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide were kept constant in all formulations. The effect of glutaraldehyde
concentration on the swelling and release characteristics were evaluated. Modalities used to assess the most optimal hydrogel
formulation included high liquid chromatography, FTIR analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, swelling studies, in vitro
drug release study, mucoadhesive study and scanning electron microscopy. The result showed that IPN hydrogels were
greater in swelling, more mucoadhesive and released more drug at lower pH values. Thus, it is believed that the antibiotic
concentration in the stomach might be sustained through this formulation.

The main goal of the present comprehensive review is to present the research carried out with species of the Strychnos genus, widely spread in the world, in order to organize the data produced as resource for various uses. This review summarizes various reported phytoconstituents, its chemical structure and the corresponding pharmacological activities reported in various species of the Strychnos genus. There were around 185 phytoconstituents comprising alkaloids viz., major alkaloids, minor alkaloids, Nb-C(21) secocuran alkaloids, zwitterionic alkaloid, quarternary alkaloid, quarternary indole alkaloid, tertiary alkaloids, trimeric indolomonoterpenic alkaloid, Nb-methylated β-carbolinium alkaloid, gluco-alkaloid, usambarine alkaloid, gluco-indole alkaloid; indole alkaloid and dimeric indole alkaloid; carbohydrates such as glucoside, iridoid glucoside, lignan glucosides, polysaccharides; glycosides namely phenolic glycosides; major flavonoids; phenolic bases namely quarternary base, β-carboline compounds, iridoids, pimarane diterpenoid, imidofuranyl carbamates, enolate methyl compounds, dimeric derivatives and trimeric derivatives of chemical structures and its corresponding pharmacological activities from 37 species of the Strychnos genus were reviewed here.

Background: It has been established that sublingual (SL) route of misoprostol has a great potential to be developed for medical abortion, but there is dearth of evidence to reveal satisfaction rate and safety profile among patients of oral and SL routes. Thus, this study was conducted to provide an insight into the acceptability and safety profile of the same.
Materials and Methods: A randomized controlled trial was carried out by giving 200 mg mifepristone orally, followed by administration of 600 ΅g misoprostol orally to 50 women and sublingually to 50 women. The primary endpoints of study were measurements of acceptability and safety profile parameters (average blood loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hot flushes, fever) of both the groups. The secondary endpoints of the study were number of doses required for complete abortion, success rate and the induction to evacuation interval in both the groups.
Results: SL route of administration was more acceptable than the oral route (P = 0.009). Average blood loss was higher in the oral group than in the SL group (P = 0.001). Amongst the side effects, 34% in the SL group and 52% in the oral group had nausea (P = 0.264), 22% in the SL group and 44% in the oral group had vomiting (P = 0.031), 48% in the SL group and 86% in the oral group had diarrhea (P < 0.05), hot flushes were presented by 24% in the SL group and 50% in the oral group (P < 0.05), fever was presented by 20% in the SL group and 44% in the oral group (P < 0.05), and the number of cases aborted with only one dose was higher (86%) in the SL group as compared to 63% in the oral group (P = 0.004). The evacuation (success) rates were 92% in the SL group and 84% in the oral group (P = 0.218) and the mean ± SD induction to evacuation intervals in the SL and oral groups were 5.6 ± 4.54 hours and 9.44 ± 5.61 hours, respectively (P = 0.0002).
Conclusion: The SL route had fewer undesirable effects, was more satisfactory, required less number of doses and was more acceptable to the patient compared to the oral route.
