From the expansion of the Macedonian kingdom during the reigns of Philip ii and Alexander the Great in the second half... more From the expansion of the Macedonian kingdom during the reigns of Philip ii and Alexander the Great in the second half of the 4th century B.C. until its dismembering by the Romans in 167 B.C., the inflow of the Macedonian royal coinage continually played the principal role in the monetarization of the economies of the tribes in the interior of the Balkans. The objective of this article is to examine the emergence of this coinage in the territory of the Scordisci, a north-Balkan Celtic tribe, attempting to integrate the numismatic material into the study of the political and economic history of the tribes in the interior of the Balkans.
