Traslado, explicación y emulación: los traductores del Corán y la palabra sagrada

The first of these two strategies has been maintained by most Biblical translators, while Qur'anic translators have normally been biased toward a model of translation inspired by the politics of explaining. This is particularly true when we deal with Qur'anic passages analyzed as instances of figurative speech by medieval Arab commentators, who seem to be still inspiring contemporary translators. Nevertheless a new model of Qur'anic translation has recently been implemented by M. de Epalza and his team. Their translation of the Qur'an into Catalonian has been generally acclaimed because of their sttylistic concerns. We analyze this translation in the light of some contemporary Western sets of ideas about truth and religion.

This originality can only be evaluated by contrasting his use of certain narratives with those we find in other authors. This is precisely what I try to do, in this study, by means of: a) confronting sorne Lullian exempla with others which could have been their source; b) a description of how these texts are articulated within a concrete work - the first book of Felix; c) a proposal for a system of formalizing the textual structures studies, in order to facilitate their study.

Abstract. This conference paper reflects on the concept and evolution of research and development (R&D) in the area of literature on Catalan language and culture. From both quantitative and qualitative points of view, the research examines the agents involved (universities, institutes and research groups, foundations, etc.) inputs (human, financial
2
and material) and outputs (monographs and chapters, journals and papers, doctoral theses, conference papers, etc.).
Data were obtained from various sources of information, showing the important methodological problems in data collection (lack of objective and systematic collections, manual work to collect and organize appropriate information, etc.).
Whenever possible, the information was studied according to different geographical areas and fields (contemporary literature, modern literature, medieval literature and, lastly, cross-sectional studies, literary theory and comparative literature).
Finally, it is drawing some conclusions about R&D in literature and its future prospects.

In the shadow of Genoese and Venetians, the Catalans were installed in the region and came to enter the Central Asia, but never came to be present in large numbers.

My study is based on an ethnography of two groups of young people from working-class neighbourhoods in Barcelona. I was interested in researching the impact of Catalan language policies on the identities of young people of Spanish-speaking immigrant families. I sought to go beyond the constraints of traditional structuralist approaches in Sociolinguistics in order to make my analysis relevant to people working for gender equality, the promotion of the Catalan language, or other social causes. I combine ideas from Bakhtin, Bourdieu, Fairclough, Foucault and Goffman to build a dialectical, historical, process-centred perspective that conceptualises practices in terms of social and political struggles.
I analyse young people's peer-group activities in terms of their significance for the construction of gender identities. I propose a variety of forms of masculinity and femininity according to the various ways in which members organised their gender displays in face-to-face interaction.
I also show how their use of argot and dialectal Spanish was part of the processes whereby members defined their relationships, constructed particular subject positions in interaction and struggled to legitimate their own values.
I explore the meanings constructed through Catalan and Spanish by looking into the code-switching practices of my participants. I analysed their talk in terms of narratives that present particular sequential dramatisations of events for conversational audiences. These narratives follow the expressive intention of the author, and are populated with multiple voices of animated characters. I argue that, in the groups I studied, Catalan was generally not used to animate the voices that were central to the identities of the peer-group, and particularly to masculine identities.
In order to contextualise these practices within the wider society, I also look into the processes of language choice in face-to-face encounters. I argue that existing conventions made it difficult for people to find opportunities to speak Catalan. I also pointed to the difficulties that my participants had to find employment, which were particularly acute amongst the more politically aware individuals. I conclude that these young working-class people had little possibilities of investing in more egalitarian forms of identity given their lack of resources and opportunities to develop their identities in other social spaces, such as the workplace.
