Purpose – This research aims to develop a framework for measuring readiness level of Business Intelligence (BI) implementation.
Design/methodology/approach – We formulated our farmework by using Critical Success Factors (CSFs) of BI implementation. The weight of each dimension in the framework is determined by using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The validation of the model is performed by involving five (5) BI experts.
Findings – The proposed framework comprises of three categories: organizational, process and technology. The number of aspects for organizational, process and technology are nine, four, and five respectively. Among other aspects, strategic alignment, committed management support and sponsorship, clear vision and well-established business case, and business-centric championship and balanced team composition are considered the most important aspects to measure BI implementation readiness.
Practical implication – In order to gain success in BI implementation, it is necessary that organizations conduct assessment on its current condition to identify their weaknesses.
Originality/value – We proposed a framework for measuring BI implementation readiness, which is currently unavailable. Current researchs in BI mainly focus in the implementation aspects, whereas our research focuses on pre-implementation aspects. We hope by considering our proposed framework, organizetions can provide better BI services in its implementation, thus BI gives more value to help organization in decision making.

This is why tools of business intelligence are of great importance; nevertheless the current methods can hardly cope with large and unstructured text sources like World Wide Web that currently becomes more and more important. To achieve this main goal we have to find and verify satisfactorily reliable methods for automatic extraction of a main context of a document, i.e., multidimensional structured characterization representing the main topic of the document. To cope with the multilingual sources we have to develop approaches that would not be dependent on the language of the source and that would not need any additional language dependent tools (like thesauri). In our conception, the context is dynamic – it means that a classification of a document will not be dependent only on the document in question but also on the corpus; the expansion of a corpus can result in a change of a document classification.

The increasingly vast number of marketing campaigns over time has reduced its effect on the general public. Furthermore, economical pressures and competition has led marketing managers to invest on directed campaigns with a strict and rigorous selection of contacts. Such direct campaigns can be enhanced through the use of Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Mining (DM) techniques.
This paper describes an implementation of a DM project based on the CRISP-DM methodology. Real-world data were collected from a Portuguese marketing campaign related with bank deposit subscription. The business goal is to find a model that can explain success of a contact, i.e. if the client subscribes the deposit. Such model can increase campaign efficiency by identifying the main characteristics that affect success, helping in a better management of the available resources (e.g. human effort, phone calls, time) and selection of a high quality and affordable set of potential buying customers.

This detrimental demeanor is counterproductive, as it for the entity so do for our common goods. The issue of sustainability is a dilemma of our which many scholars pondered over last decades, yet despite their efforts, the message is somewhat convoluted through a plethora of conflicting strategies, definitions, mandates and regulatory measures. The obfuscation has created deviation in the discourse of “sustainability” measures without addressing systemic discord with sustainability challenges at organizational and societal level, and societal and ecological level. This survey examines presence and absence of a particular behavioral dimension in global corporations and corollary effect of it. In addition, this global survey unveils previously unknown data depicting correlation between certain behavioral dimension at workplace and other corporate level factors including profitability, innovation and market leadership. This global survey serves as the basis for further research to find a common ground that brings institutional integration to sustainability conjectures.

One of the steps usually undertaken in the formation of partnerships is the assessment of organisations’ competencies. The typical notion of competencies, which have a functional or technical nature and provide specific outcomes, refers, in fact, to what can be considered as hard competencies. However, the very act of collaboration has its specific requirements, for which the involved organisations must be apt to exercise other types of competencies that affect their own performance and the success of the partnership. These competencies are more of a behavioural nature, and can be named as soft competencies. This study aims at addressing the
effects of the soft competencies on the performance of the hard ones. An extended competencies model is thus proposed, allowing the construction of adjusted competencies profiles, in which the competency levels are dynamically determined according to the requirements of collaboration opportunities. The idea of competencies fitness arises from this adjustment, allowing better selection of partners.

Analysis of customer buying pattern for a consumer marketing process carries vital importance in any business system.... more Analysis of customer buying pattern for a consumer marketing process carries vital importance in any business system. Various methods of predicting the customer buying pattern and adaptive classification is required over variable period of time for any business establishment. The paper aims to suggest a bee-hive based a classification approach using the customer buying pattern for different products. CCHUM approach works with heuristic predictive rule module to provide support in identifying customer interests and supporting customer retention. The results show an improved customer retention percentage when compared with traditional classification and genetic approach.

The paper explains the various steps related to the transformation of these data to formal contexts, such as preprocessing, cleansing and simplification, as well as preprocessing and limitation issues, by using two FCA tools currently being developed in CUBIST, FcaBedrock and InClose. The paper demonstrates what is achievable to date, using the above-mentioned tools and what issues need to be considered to achieve more meaningful and intuitive FCA analyses. The paper concludes by suggesting and explaining techniques and features that should be implemented in later iterations of these tools, to deal with the identified barriers. Knowledge management and business intelligence focus mostly on analysis of internal business data. Investments in IT ave been defensive and did not promote innovations and the creation of open business process networks, although process network coordination is the greatest lever to create value in a knowledge-based globalised economy. The authors’ survey shows a lack in the use of tools and systems that integrate external information into business intelligence. Yet, the authors’ tool portnet navigator displays benefits of such an integrative tool. Finally, it is concluded that business intelligence utilising external data and information is invaluable to sound knowledge
management and business viability.

The main goal of the questionnaire is to help organizations make a high level assessment of the maturity of their DW solution. Emphasis should be put on two aspects regarding the DW maturity assessment questionnaire. Firstly, it does a high level assessment of an organization’s DW solution and it is limited strictly to the DW technical aspects. Secondly, the model will assess “what” and “if” certain characteristics and processes are implemented and not “how” they are implemented. The DW maturity assessment questionnaire has 60 questions.

While BI-software enables organization-wide decision support, problems are encountered in the “fit” between systems’ provision and changing requirements of a growing amount of BI (end-) users. This chapter aims at investigating the factors that influence the “fit” between Business Intelligence (BI) end-users, tasks and technologies (BI-FIT). Based on an extensive literature study on the elements of BI-FIT, in this research the BI-FIT Framework is developed that shows the most relevant factors and the interrelationships between BI end-users, tasks and technologies. The framework can be used to help organizations to identify and fulfill the needs of BI end-users, thereby improving adoption and increasing satisfaction of the BI end-user base.

This paper aims at creating some structure in the BI field of research by creating a BI development model that relates the current BI development stages and their main characteristics. This framework can be used by organizations to identify their current BI stage and provide insight into how to improve their BI function.
