This paper proposes the integration of existing metadata specifications in an environment of digital TV transmission and reception in terrestrial and satellite open networks. It describes a methodology for integrating broadcast multimedia industry metadata information standards with ontologies oriented to describe knowledge of specific domains existing in Internet repositories.

This research aimed to assess the current thoughts on these potential impacts and examine the place of stadia within the broadcasting relationship. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews with senior mangers from four stadia in the greater Melbourne region. Results indicated that there were potentially numerous threats and benefits arising from these emerging technologies. Recommendations suggested that stadia should either work closer with sporting leagues to establish a stronger portion on these issues, or alternatively to enter into the broadcasting relationship by offering some of their traditional revenues. Recommendations were also presented concerning options for further research.

The concept of language rights is approached in terms of how it is understood in the field of sociolinguistics. Within the South African context the language provisions in the Constitution (1996) need to be taken into account. An overview is also provided of multilingual broadcasting and of how this type of broadcasting is realised by SABC TV. Despite legislation and SABC policy that accommodate the acknowledgement and protection of language rights, SABC TV favours the use of English. In this article the importance is emphasised of pivot and bilingual subtitles within the South African situation. Finally, this article proposes subtitling as a method through which multilingual broadcasting can be realised and the language rights of the speakers of languages other than English be acknowledged and protected on SABC TV.
