The evidence comes from a rock carved inside of a natural rocky outcrop placed in an archaeological context provisionally understood as a sanctuary dated in the Second Iron Age. The study through the comparative method of the two main rock carvings in that sanctuary lead us to think that we are in face to a minimalist material form of the same religious ideology expressed, with other material forms, in the Monumental Pool at Bibracte (Gaul), and in the Capitol at Rome. This ideology turns around ideas about time and space and relates the social hierarchical order with the natural life presided by sun.

The present paper pretends to show the close connections between space archaeology and archaeoastronomy. We indicate the fundaments and possibilities of both disciplines and their methodologies in order to not restrict ourselves to a wishful list of propositions, bearing in mind that both areas are diverse in their trajectories. We propose that historic anthropology can be a useful guide to counterbalance the increasing rise of complex analytic technologies (e.g. the use of complex celestial models) to avoid the creation of a separate and disconnected area of knowledge, without further interesting contributions to the study of past cultures. We will thus show that these diverse disciplines must be viewed as tools to help in a better understanding of different aspects of ancient societies’ everyday life which otherwise would remain unknown to us.

The relationship between petroglyphs and archaeoastronomy
has been treated in several ways in the past. In the present study we propose a singular study of a particular motif found among the rock carvings in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula: large deer with over-sized horns and an unnatural number of tips on each horn. A multidisciplinary approach
combining landscape archaeology, comparative history of religion, and archaeoastronomy suggests a coherent interpretation of the motif. It can reveal a particular synthesis of calendrical motivations and landscape relationships with important lunisolar events. Further implications may apply to the Celtic wold image and its artistic manifestations and the
relationship between time and landscape.

There are an impressive hill fort (San Cibrán de Las), other less important, and the rock art area of A Ferradura interpreted as a sanctuary. Between carved rocks and hill forts, on both sides of the Barbantiño valley, there are different solar alignments. Comparative data are discussed to show the archaeological system detected as inspired by people of Celt culture and religion. The Iron Age name of the San Cibran hill fort was ‘Lansbricae’, with the characteristic Celt –briga ending.
