With the fall of the rural world, landscapes regain a remarkable expression in the framing of the memory and in the construction of the imaginary of a society that redesigns its image and projects itself in time, past and future, and is forced to question its present.
In the demand of the Tagus Valley landscape representations, picture postcards were elected as primordial research source. To find them required a long and persisting course, identifying local collectors and getting their assent to study their collections, what has revealed new perspectives of inquiry, multiplying the odds of looking the site and its sought objects.
Defying us to examine the perspectives on the place, both in past and present, postcards are the axis of a research where we outlook the modulations of the gaze: the people’s gaze on their space and about themselves, on how they intend to be looked at by the others, how they see the others and how they are seen by them.
This way, it was intended to contribute to the identification of processes that determine the construction of a place, the delimitation of a territory, the recognition of a landscape, and hence, the production of a sense of belonging, where a situated identity is discoursed and represented.

The space, which is always of social production, is defined from interaction. Interaction could be studied from the analysis of group discourses that socially interact and produce the social. This paper describes the possibilities to apply discourse analysis to study the relations between the local and the extra-local space.

An approach that does not primarily rely on physical location to study mobile communication technologies is thus needed. The stable component of mobile communication technology is not physical space but human communication. Therefore, a research model is developed based on an ethnography of communication approach, which designates “talk” (i.e., symbolic communication) as the primary and essential unit of measurement while making stationary physical location secondary. This allows design teams to enter a user “speech community” anywhere. Eight participants tested both the stationary and mobile version of customer relationship management software for sales. All participants were professional salespeople, comprising a speech community. Users articulated their “local” speech community meaning systems in the form of scenarios of use, which can guide product design and marketing. The findings show that proof-of-concept testing of mobile versions of desktop software can be done in conjunction with the usability testing for stationary technology.

Abstract :
This study of the French Communist Party in three departments (Allier, Loire-Atlantique, Meurthe-et-Moselle) sheds light on rural activists, practices and ideas. This “sociographic” analysis of the Party’s rural networks emphasizes both the strong mobilization of Communists in working-class areas and the leading role played by craftsmen and merchants in organizing a Red peasantry. An ethnographic approach shows how this organization tapped local sociabilities, which left their marks on the forms of activist involvement. The Party’s propaganda highlighted rural elements in the Communist ideology and invoked symbols germane to rural areas.
