At the declaration of the Republic, the
existing public buildings continued to be used in
Antalya which was located in quite small residential
center in comparison with today. The limited and
traditional building activities continues as it was a city
that sends immigrants but not getting immigrants.
During the war years the city had a high building
activity due to the special efforts of Haim can, the
governor of that period. can’s method was based on
the joint work of public and state within an
organization. nönü Primary School smet nönü
Girl’s Vocational High School and maternity hospital,
which were destroyed a short time ago, were built in
this period. Although they had some repairs, because
they were the buildings from Republic period, which
are very few in Antalya, they were very important for
social memory and historical awareness. This study
will examine the relationship these buildings have
with the past and how that will influence the people
living in Antalya today, based on Halbwachs’s social
memory studies.
