Call for Applications: Professional Development Courses in 'Advanced Research Design for Policy-Oriented Research', 'Engendering Social Science Research Methods' & 'Comparative Case Study Analysis' for African Researchers
The Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) welcomes applications from African social science researchers for three subsidised residential short courses to be held in Nairobi, Kenya:

1. Advanced Research Design for Policy-Oriented Research

Course dates: November 8-November 18, 2017
Training location: Nairobi, Kenya

This 11-day course is useful to African PhD students, academics and researchers who wish to enhance their skills in designing research that lends itself to a multi-method approach relevant to social policy and/or governance. The training uses the participant’s own research and small group work to explore multi-method research that engages public policy. It consists of four modules: Designing Social Inquiry; Multi-Method Research Strategies; Critical Policy-Engaged Research; and, Research Ethics.

2. Engendering Social Science Research Methods

Course dates: November 16-November 18, 2017
Training location: Nairobi, Kenya

This 3-day professional development course is relevant to African academics, researchers and PhD students interested in practical implementation of gender-sensitive data collection and data analysis in order to better understand society and human behaviour. It has been expressly designed for active researchers in think tanks and universities, including university teaching staff engaged in postdoctoral or PhD research.

3. Comparative Case Study Analysis

Course dates: November 20-November 23, 2017
Training location: Nairobi, Kenya

This 4-day professional development course is for African academics, researchers and PhD students interested in examining comparative case study designs and the types of causal claims and interpretive analysis they allow.

The application deadline for all courses is August 6, 2017. PASGR will cover the cost of course registration, tuition and materials.

The Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) is an independent, non-partisan pan-African not-for-profit organisation established in 2011 and located in Nairobi, Kenya. Currently engaged in more than 24 African countries, PASGR works to enhance research excellence in governance and public policy that contributes to the overall wellbeing of women and men.

  • Enhance the institutionalisation of a research culture in Africa’s universities and research organisations; and,
  • Coordinate a collaborative Master of Research and Public Policy with universities in Africa
