Blondé’s Aeolian Gamma-tradition modernizes his Mykenaian Alpha-tradition and is strongly mixed with his European Beta-tradition in the Iliad. Curiously, it is also connected to the Troy area and the Greek colonies in Italy. Roman mythology and the Aeneid appear not to be based on Greek mythology and Homer in general, but more specifically on the Aeolian Gamma-tradition. The intertextuality of the Aeolian Gamma-tradition in Homer, the Trojan Cycle, the Argonautica, Virgil, and the Old--and even New--Testament is investigated. Furthermore, there are the influences of several often-international story types, such as the destruction story, the tele-story, the monster story, and the savior story.

Ward Blondé is a doctor of applied biological sciences and works as a data programmer in Ghent. He has created theories related to the Homeric Question in his spare time since 2000. Even though he may often use the style and professionalism of a layperson, his methods have resulted in important findings that matter to scientists in Greek and Roman literature, history, archaeology, and linguistics.

Se analiza el epílogo (vv. 151-162) del centón virgiliano de Hippodamia –que narra en 162 versos el mito de la princesa hija de Enómao– a partir de las consecuencias narrativas que se derivan de las relaciones entre los tiempos verbales, puesto que en esta sección se aprecia el único caso en el centón donde los perfectos superan a los presentes. Nuestra hipótesis es que el centonarius tiene motivos ‘narrativos’ para la utilización de los presentes y perfectos, con los que puede manipular la tensión dramática de acuerdo con sus necesidades.

This article offers a thorough study of Virgil's interaction with the myth of Eteocles and Polynices' war for the throne of Thebes, as represented especially in Athenian tragedy. It demonstrates that allusions to the Theban myth are crucial to the Aeneid's construction of a set of tensions and oppositions that play an important role in Virgil's reflection on the historical experience of Rome, especially in connection with the transition from Republic to Empire. In particular, interaction with Theban stories allows Virgil to explore: (1) the dichotomy between similarity and foreignness in the depiction of Rome's enemies; (2) the tension in differing attitudes towards the state as reflected in antithetical character types ––namely, the selfless youth who sacrifices himself for the community and the would-be tyrant prepared to go to any lengths to achieve sole power; and, finally, (3) the dichotomy between opposing notions of time defined by teleology, on the one hand, and circularity and repetition on the other, the two representing the differing temporalities of epic and tragedy, respectively.

Gli interpreti di Ovidio hanno da tempo riconosciuto la ripetizione come una delle cifre stilistiche delle Metamorfosi e ne hanno discusso la funzione (Ahl 1985; Nagle 1988; Konstan 1991; Feldherr 2016; James 2016). Secondo Galinsky (1975, 88) e Fulkerson (2016, 52) Ovidio manifesta il suo gusto per la variatio raccontando episodi simili senza mai rendere le storie la pedissequa ripetizione l’una dell’altra. In questa relazione supporto questa tesi esaminando due coppie di narrazioni che rappresentano esempi estremi di esogamia ed endogamia: gli episodi di Medea e Scilla, e quelli di Biblide e Mirra. In entrambe le circostanze Ovidio usa la stessa tecnica per differenziare scene analoghe. Nel suo racconto di due vicende di tradimento della famiglia d’origine, come anche in quello di due casi di incesto, trae ispirazione da due modelli letterari diversi: la Didone virgiliana (Eneide 4) per Medea e Mirra, e la Tarpea properziana (4.4) per Scilla e Biblide. Nel fare ciò, Ovidio colloca le quattro donne in una ben definita gerarchia morale. Le due donne modellate su Didone, infatti, vengono presentate come moralmente superiori rispetto alle due modellate su Tarpea. In questo modo Ovidio crea una struttura chiastica in cui i personaggi posti alle estremità, ossia Medea (Libro 7) e Mirra (L. 10), sono meno biasimevoli di quelli posti nel mezzo, ossia Scilla (L. 8) e Biblide (L. 9). Ciò conferma la teoria di Nugent (2008, 154) secondo la quale se è possibile percepire un senso di progresso cronologico nelle Metamorfosi, non è possibile osservare alcun progresso morale.
