RESUMO
Este trabalho é um primeiro passo na reavaliação das escavações que decorreram entre 1952 e 1954 no concheiro mesolíticoda Moita do Sebastião.
Segundo Jean Roche, o arqueólogo que dirigiu as escavações, as estruturas identificadas nas areias de base do concheiro consistiam em vestígios de habitat associados a uma necrópole, do início da ocupação mesolítica do sítio, antes da formação da mamoa do concheiro.
No entanto, pela observação circunstanciada das relações que as diversas estruturas apresentavam entre si, e com as sepulturas que foram identificadas, esta interpretação original não pode ser sancionada. Aparentemente, no início da sequência, o sítio poderá ter sido apenas ocupado por uma necrópole que foi sujeita a uma complexa série de remodelações.

ABSTRACT
This work is the first step in the reassessment of the results of the excavations made between 1952 and 1954 in the Mesolithic shellmound of Moita do Sebastião.
According Jean Roche, the archaeologist who conducted the excavations, the structures identified in the basal sands, below the shell mound, consisted in traces of a settlement, associated with a necropolis, from the beginning of the Mesolithic occupation of the site, before the formation of the mound.
However, a thorough observation of the relationship between the different structures and the burials that were identified doesn’t support the original interpretation. It seems as though the lowest levels of the sequence would have contained a necropolis that was subjected to a complex series of transformations.
