We present Amnestic Forgery, an ontology for metaphor semantics, based on MetaNet, which is inspired by the theory of Conceptual Metaphor. Amnestic Forgery reuses and extends the Framester schema, as an ideal ontology design framework to deal with both semiotic and referential aspects of frames, roles, mappings, and blending. The description of the resource is supplied by a discussion of its applications, with examples taken from metaphor generation, and from re-interpretation of existing gold standards. Both schema and data are available from the Framester SPARQL endpoint.

Les itinéraires culturels sont un secteur toujours montant du côté touristique soit en Europe, soit en Italie. En 2016, en Italie, le Ministère de la Culture (MiBACT) a lancé "L'an des Chemins", pour valoriser cette modalité de tourisme slow. Avant tout cela a permis de lister tous les itinéraires culturels d'Italie et ensuite, dans le domaine des projets de numérisation dans le tourisme, d'envisager de nouvelles technologies pour les itinéraires culturels. Deux sont les propositions avancées : en première, la réalisation d'une ontologie pour le domaine "Itinéraires culturels" dans la perspective des prochains développements du "Web Sémantique" ; en deuxième l'utilisation des logiciels GIS dans la gestion et la valorisation des itinéraires culturels.

ABSTRACT In this paper we demonstrate a system SemFacet, that is a proof of concept prototype for our semantic faceted search approach. SemFacet is implemented on top of the Yago knowledge base, powered by the OWL 2 RL triple store RDFox, and the full text search engine Lucene. SemFacet has provided very encouraging results. Via logical reasoning SemFacet can automatically (i) extract facets, (ii) update the faceted query interface with facets relevant for the current stage of the users query construction's session. SemFacet supports faceted queries that are much more expressive than the ones of traditional faceted search applications; in particular SemFacet allows to (i) relate several collections of documents, and (ii) change the focus of queries (and, thus, SemFacet provides control over the documents in the query output to be displayed on the screen). Our approach is fully declarative: the same backend implementation can be used to power faceted search over any application, provided that metadata and knowledge are represented in RDF and OWL 2.

Our study employs sentiment analysis to evaluate the compatibility of Amazon.com reviews with their corresponding ratings. Sentiment analysis is the task of identifying and classifying the sentiment expressed in a piece of text as being positive or negative. On e-commerce websites such as Amazon.com, consumers can submit their reviews along with a specific polarity rating. In some instances, there is a mismatch between the review and the rating. To identify the reviews with mismatched ratings we performed sentiment analysis using deep learning on Amazon.com product review data. Product reviews were converted to vectors using paragraph vector, which then was used to train a recurrent neural network with gated recurrent unit. Our model incorporated both semantic relationship of review text and product information. We also developed a web service application that predicts the rating score for a submitted review using the trained model and if there is a mismatch between predicted rating score and submitted rating score, it provides feedback to the reviewer.

Building an effective Information Retieval (IR) System for such a complex sector like a library, is indeed a challenging task. Creating this kind of applications, one must be aware of basic IR methodolo-gies and structures used, as well as the User's Experience requirements. Combining different technologies for creating different kinds of applications has been one of the major problems in software reuse. However, in recent years, many frameworks that offer a complete suite for developing cross-platform applications have been developed. In this paper, we present a combination of breakthrough technologies and frameworks for developing a Python based RestAPI, an Administrator's side desktop application and a cross-platform application powered by Ionic, Angular, HTML and CSS, as the main IR tool of UCY's library.

Semantic modeling and integration of local indigenous knowledge have become fundamental to improving the degree of accuracy of drought forecasting systems due to the variability of currently used environmental parameters. This research aims to acquire, organize and model natural indicators, behavior and ecological interactions of local indigenous knowledge with a focus on drought forecasting. The data are gathered using qualitative interpretative methodology from the interviews with local farmers and indigenous knowledge expert focus groups. The knowledge is formalised into semantic structure using an ontology for machine readability, reusability, integration, and interoperability with heterogeneous intelligent systems. In this paper, we present the design and development of a domain ontology for the indigenous knowledge on drought. The ontological model is an integral component of the research framework towards the development of semantics-based data integration middleware for local indigenous knowledge and modern knowledge on drought. This research contributes to modeling South African indigenous knowledge on drought into ontological models for use in drought forecasting systems, decision support systems, and expert systems.

In the whole world, the internet is exercised by millions of people every day for information retrieval. Even for a small to smaller task like fixing a fan, to cook food or even to iron clothes persons opt to search the web. To fulfill the information needs of people, there are billions of web pages, each having a different degree of relevance to the topic of interest (TOI), scattered throughout the web but this huge size makes manual information retrieval impossible. The page ranking algorithm is an integral part of search engines as it arranges web pages associated with a queried TOI in order of their relevance level. It, therefore, plays an important role in regulating the search quality and user experience for information retrieval. PageRank, HITS, and SALSA are well-known page ranking algorithm based on link structure analysis of a seed set, but ranking given by them has not yet been efficient. In this paper, we propose a variant of SALSA to give sNorm(p) for the efficient ranking of web pages. Our approach relies on a p-Norm from Vector Norm family in a novel way for the ranking of web pages as Vector Norms can reduce the impact of low authority weight in hub weight calculation in an efficient way. Our study, then compares the rankings given by PageRank, HITS, SALSA, and sNorm(p) to the same pages in the same query. The effectiveness of the proposed approach over state of the art methods has been shown using performance measurement technique, Mean Reciprocal Rank (MRR), Precision, Mean Average Precision (MAP), Discounted Cumulative Gain (DCG) and Normalized DCG (NDCG). The experimentation is performed on a dataset acquired after pre-processing of the results collected from initial few pages retrieved for a query by the Google search engine. Based on the type and amount of in-hand domain expertise 30 queries are designed. The extensive evaluation and result analysis are performed using MRR, Precision@k, MAP, DCG, and NDCG as the performance measuring statistical metrics. Furthermore, results are statistically verified using a significance test. Findings show that our approach outperforms state of the art methods by attaining 0.8666 as MRR value, 0.7957 as MAP value. Thus contributing to the improvement in the ranking of web pages more efficiently as compared to its counterparts.

This article presents a paper-based Tangible User Interface (TUI) that facilitates the production of complex queries on a Cultural Heritage (CH) repository. The system helps to easily make use of the data elements and Boolean logic that describe the collections. This research presents a design methodology divided into two main phases: A User Experience (UX) and User Centred Design (UCD) where potential users’ behaviours are analysed, followed by the development and evaluation of the TUI prototype.
The TUI uses off the shelf electronics and a paper-based set of tokens to engage the user with the system, thus facilitating the exploration with CH collections through querying.

The Linked Open Data Cloud (LOD Cloud) is the constellation of available interlinked open datasets which has become one of the biggest repositories on the web. An increasing number of spatial semantically annotated datasets provide a huge potential source of knowledge for data enrichment in a spatial context. Yet, there is lack of information about the structure of the spatial datasets in the LOD Cloud which can discourage the integration efforts. In addition, most of the existing studies of link discovery have yet to exploit spatial information richness (topology and geometry). Thus, a structured way to assess spatial datasets and to integrate linked spatial data is required.
This study aims to evaluate the LOD Cloud by assessing the data structure and the representation of linked spatial data, in order to support exploration and integration purposes. To achieve this objective, this study proposes: (i) a workflow for analyzing linked spatial data resources in the LOD Cloud, which consists of the identification of the linked spatial data sources, strategies for dataset retrieval, pipeline design for data processing, and linked data quality principles and metrics analysis; (ii) a review of linked data visualization systems, which includes an assessment of the current LOD Cloud Diagram based on expert opinion with respect to key requirements for visual representation and analytics for linked data consumption; and (iii) a workflow for linked spatial data integration. The main contribution of this thesis is the provision of case studies of integrating various spatial data sources. We presented two case studies, geometry-based integration using the spatial extension of Silk Link Discovery, and toponym-based integration using Similarity Measure. The datasets of Basisregistratie Topografie (BRT) Kadaster, Natura2000, and Geonames were used for the data integration.
The results of the study include: (i) a structured way to consume and extract spatial information from linked data resources. In this thesis, we proposed one metric to assess linked spatial data, namely the existence of geospatial ontology – vocabulary in the linked data resources; (ii) identification of suitable visualization element for exploration and discovery, especially for spatial data. The top-level relationship (overview) visualization is potentially facilitating an effective datasets discovery and also able to expose the spatial content and relationship in a sensible way. This study discovered that the linkset concept in the level of the dataset, subset, and distribution could be used as basis information for overview visualization; and finally, (iii) findings of spatial components (geometry and toponym) that can be used as important “hook” for integrating different datasets. The commonly used geospatial ontology and vocabulary also enable semantic interoperability to support data integration.

ABSTRACT We present a prototype sensor web that uses multiagent, Web, and Semantic Web technologies so that users may maintain awareness of the evolving weather situation as it relates to an activity in which they engage, in this case running. We apply Devlin's theory of information flow to explain how this system allows a user to maintain situation awareness. Ontologies are critical in this account for the flow of information. The system incorporates weather data into an ontology based on the OGC's O&M encoding schema and transforms it into data in a Running ontology via alignment of the ontologies. Devlin's situation semantics explains how the system provides a user with information on the running situation.

Purpose – Applied computational ontologies (ACOs) are increasingly used in data science domains to produce semantic enhancement and interoperability among divergent data. The purpose of this paper is to propose and implement a methodology for researching the sociotechnical dimensions of data-driven ontology work, and to show how applied ontologies are communicatively constituted with ethical implications. Design/methodology/approach – The underlying idea is to use a data assemblage approach for studying ACOs and the methods they use to add semantic complexity to digital data. The author uses a mixed methods approach, providing a contextual review of the widely used Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) through digital methods and descriptions, and presents historical research alongside unstructured interview data with leading experts in BFO development. Findings – The author found that ACOs are products of communal deliberation and decision-making across institutions. While ACOs are beneficial for facilitating semantic data interoperability, ACOs may produce unintended effects when semantically enhancing data about social entities and relations. ACOs can have potentially negative consequences for data subjects. Further critical work is needed for understanding how ACOs are applied in contexts like the semantic web, digital platforms, and topic domains. ACOs do not merely reflect social reality through data but are active actors in the social shaping of data. Originality/value – The paper presents a new approach for studying ACOs, the unintended social effects of ACO work, and describes methods that may be used to produce further applied ontology studies.

Nos propusimos crear una base datos con todas aquellas obras audiovisuales que aborden el último período cívico-militar uruguayo, sea por tratarse de registros documentales, por la trama del film o a través de la puesta en escena.
Al comenzar a trabajar con la producción audiovisual de este período fue imperioso contar, como primer paso, con un listado que contuviera los datos básicos de los filmes que se ajustaran a este criterio. Para eso se recurrió a varias publicaciones y los sitios www.cinedata.uy​, ​www.imdb.com​, w​ ww.filmaffinity.com​ y a partir de allí se logró generar un listado en formato xls.
Para el mejor tratamiento posterior de la información nos pusimos como objetivo mejorar el formato de archivos para permitir la recuperación semántica y para poder expresar la información de manera flexible.

En esta ponencia nos proponemos presentar los principales ejes de reflexión que surgieron en el marco de la creación de la plataforma de Contenido Colaborativo sobre las Artes Escénicas, NODOS, proyectada por el Grupo de Estudio del Cuerpo (GEC- FAHCE, UNLP) en conjunto con el Laboratorio de Investigación Formación en Informática Avanzada (LIFIA - Facultad de Informática, UNLP), alumnos de la carrera de informática y artistas de la ciudad de La Plata.
La plataforma se proyecta como una fuente de conocimiento sobre los diferentes actores que comprenden las artes escénicas - tales como artistas, grupos culturales, espacios, obras, ciclos y festivales- que será actualizada por los mismos miembros de la comunidad. Se trabajó sobre la construcción de una forma dinámica y colaborativa de recopilación de información que incluye potencialmente a todas las personas y acciones ligadas a las artes escénicas. Con este objetivo, se desarrolló una infraestructura técnica y organizativa esencial de web semántica, con formato de MediaWiki, que permite entrelazar el conocimiento conformando una red y por el otro, consolidar lazos a partir de la sociabilización de dicho conocimiento.
La necesidad de sostener la integridad semántica de la mediawiki requirió establecer relaciones entre las categorías que en sí mismas no abarcan la complejidad y heterogeneidad de las prácticas escénicas pero que en la combinación permiten dar cuenta de las experiencias. En este sentido, surgieron debates sobre las formas denominación, su historicidad y los sentidos que encierran para los actores de la escena que representaron un gran aporte a la plataforma.
NODOS pretende ser una herramienta de acceso al conocimiento que utilice tanto la misma comunidad de artes escénicas, como profesionales afines. Por otro lado, entendemos que el material disponible será una contribución importante al patrimonio cultural intangible, que permitirá obtener información que no está disponible en otras fuentes.
